1.
I love them too.............
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Liam Neeson meets Richard Gere.
 2.
Do they sell those at Stringbusters?
Banjo-Stringbusters.
 3. I think you'd like DR BareBackers.
 4. Welcome Major. Great name -"The Major". Like an Avengers villain or a porn star.
 5.
uncomfortable in what way?
Horrible neck, nowhere to comfortable rest my thumb.
 6. I wanted one until I played one.
Great communications.
Like Reagan.
 8.
The only problem with helium is it can be quite expensive and is in high demand for blowing baloons up. Do you think I could use my own body gasses instead? I do tend to produce a fair amount as confirmed by my wife and on a Thursday after Curry day at work, also confirmed by my wife.
No. It will "colour" the sound.
 9. Providing your cab is well sealed I find the easiest thing to do is fill the cab with Helium. It doesn't affect my tone, and allows me to "float" my rig into position. Either a heavey amp sitting on top or sand-bags provide sufficient ballast whilst playing.
 10.
I always wondered who the bass player was on that record. Absolute groove monster and my favourite album of hers. Her studio efforts never seem to reach the heights of her live stuff. More due to the tendency of neo-soul producers to opt for the clean electronic sound rather than her I think; oh well Solid playing here- Jay
That style of music always sounds like a piss-take to me. I half expect to see Norman Pace on bongos.
 11.
I play with a plectrum because I am sh*te at playing with my fingers .... fact Discuss that
I play with my fingers because I am sh*te palying with a plectrum.
 12. In an age of modern amps, cabs and bass electronics, why do some players just play with fingers?
 13.
Was going to say the same. The Assassin will know. Got to be worth £150 - £250? May go for less though.
Really? I thought it would be worth slightly more. But what do I know!
At least the postage costs won't figure for you.
I have no interest in buying it, as I say, just trying to help a mate out.
 14.
PM 'bassassin' he'll give you a good idea or stick a thread in the JapCrap Spotting section, the regulars in there will know better than anyone!
Good thinking WH. I like your style.
 15. Hello people, I'm trying to an old buddy a favour. Does anyone have an idea what this is roughly worth: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Early-Aria-Pro-II-SB...ents_Guitars_CV? My mate is desperate to know as soon as possible, so be cool if anyone has a view on this who can answer pretty quickly. ....and it is genuinely a mate. Not the type of "mate" who sends you to the chemist to get some cream for [s]your[/s] his wee lad. Thanks in advance.
 16. Flats are the business. Never played them until OldGit kindly sent me a set he wasn't getting on with. Went straight in at the deep end with some LaBella Deep Talkin' James Jamerson's. I took to them straight away. It just feels and sounds like a bass should.
 17. I tell birds I'm a Firefighter or Special Forces. Close enough.
 18. Basically, if I were to order a custome bass, I would hand the luthier a vhs of me having sex and instruct him to interpret it into the bass equivalent. And no, it wouldn't be short scale.
 19.
Felixstowe isn't too far to make a quick visit to Bassmerchant. They stock Aguilar, plus Eden and SWR for the sake of comparison, not to mention Markbass... Might be worth a try.
But stay away from the SWR obviously. Life's to short.
 20.
You might even like a Markbass cab! But you should be able to improve on a Metro with a proper 112!
But that's the thing - if the Metro is bilbo's "sound", no amount of cash spent will better it.
 21. ...but I contradict my above statement by always gigging with the "house amp" because I'm to lazy to bring an amp to a gig.
 22. I've often scoffed at the importance people place on tone (given the fact that most gets lost in the mixed/not noticed by the audience), but I've come round to the idea that its important to sound good for your own benefit. I play better when I'm happy with my sound. This was drilled home by the terrible SWR Combo I keep having to hire at my rehersal studio. I play like sh*t every time I have to use. To my mind, SWR are worse than war criminals. I think carrying a bit of extra weight for a few minutes is worth it if it results in a happy gig.
 23.
One thing I've always wondered about 100% bespoke instruments is whether I actually know enough about what I want to ask someone to build it for me. Frankly I don't think I do, despite 20 years of playing bass. I pick one up, if I like it I buy it, if not I put it down again. I don't really put much thought into why. If I wanted to make sure I liked the neck I suppose I could say "Make it like a Jazz" but then why not just buy a Jazz? And stuff like pups and preamps I'd be completely stumped - I've no idea what most of the stuff on the market sounds like.
I agree 100%. I sit here bemused most days listening to people talk about that distinctive Ken Smith "snap", or the "burpy" quality of the U-Retro preamp or how adding a cocobola 2mm veneer will add a "glassy" clarity to the top end or other such nonsense. I sometimes think its just a cock-measuring excercise. Maybe its just my lack of sophistication, but my instructions to a luthier would probably be "make it sound like a P but with a Jazz neck". Might as well just buy a Lakland Duck Dunn. Firstly, I'm no where near qualified to have an idea of what the combination of different woods and electronics would sound like, and secondly, I question how much of it is actually just bullshit.
 24.
And I don't really know anything about...Janek Gwaz... Gwezz... Gwizzleybear... yeah, him.
You must have heard Crockett's Theme surely?
 25. ...or the egg? Do cats lay eggs? I get confused.
