I hate people using the term "cats" when describing non-felines. Also, the propensity to use the term "NYC" rather than New York or New York City. Jan Hammer likes to slip a "NYC" in every column he writes for BGM. "Shedding" is another one I hate. It sounds like the type of thing you'd do in a "Cottage" on Hampstead Heath. Obviously, anyone using the term "Dawg" should be shot in the face. Also, I agree with Rich about "chops". ...and I know I've said this before, but why do bass journalists have to keep writing "dial in a passable Marcus/Jaco/Clarke impersonation"?? If I wanted to "dial in" I'd get a job down the GPO. Kids huh?!

Welcome Damien. Good intro.

Factory visit to Chris Celinder's workshop, Copenhagen
BigBeefChief replied to Kiwi's topic in Build Diaries
Then it probably something you could take up with me via PM instead of jumping in on the thread in a very public and unwelcome manner.
Sorry. Well you know now. Glad I could be of assistance. -
Factory visit to Chris Celinder's workshop, Copenhagen
Oh wait let me see, is the real reason you're having a go me THIS time Beefy, because you think I've been seduced by the big names? Hmm and let me guess, the next question you're probably thinking of asking is what I got in exchange for what you may consider to be free advertising? Assuming that its any of your business (not that it is) I didn't get anything out of it and I paid for my own airfare over there.
Have you been drinking cough medicine again CK? Why would I object to you talking positively about a luthier? Just because you're a mod, you can still have an opinion and still talk about an experience, free advertising or not. I think it's safe to say you haven't been "seduced my the big time" quite yet (unless you were there to discuss the CrazyKiwi Signature model?). You've somehow come to this conclusion, and for some reason people have taken it as fact. My issue with your ammended post is far more superficial. I quoted your original post, wrote a longish reply, and then before I hit "add reply" your post had been heavily edited. As there is no "this post has been edited tag", to the uninitiated it looks like I'm either miss quoting you, or quoting a different thread. It also seems a bit inconsistent. When I write something that makes me look like a twat, I either have to suffer it or make a climb down by editing my post for the world to see. The mods can retrospectively change their posts without anyone knowing. That's why its important dood. It's not the first time you've done this, so do as you wish. All I can do is ask for the mods to play by the same rules as us as often as possible, which I did in my post. Your assumption was interesting though. For the record, apart from that minor point, I thought it was an interesting post. Personally I wasn't aware that there had been some customer service issue in the past. Never been a fan of Jazz updates really though. -
I had a dream about AM1 last night. Nothing sexual you understand?

Every time I see the this thread title, I think it says "The annoyance of Prince Charming". And I agree. Smug bastard.

Always sad when people say things like "but I have now finished with music and gigging so this is why I am selling."
No more penis references please.
Agreed, and for the record, my comment was made in jest to illustrate a point. I'm actually what's described as "hung".

I built a guitar in a day once. I'll have to put some pictures up.
Oh, so the number of strings you've got is directly proportional to how good a musician you are? I thought it was only related to how small your penis is.
I read ARGH's post slightly differently. I think its more a dig at people's attitude than ability. ...and my penis is tiny, but I hate anything above a 4 string. Work that one out.

TO GO: Huge quantity of Creative Arts design magazines...
BigBeefChief replied to 99ster's topic in Completed Items
"Creative Arts Magazines"? Is that what you call them? Surely you should hand them down to you son in time honoured tradition? Or has the missus rumbled them? -

What about one of these: http://www.imuso.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?StockCode=EG00795 Never played one mind, but told they can do a passable precision? Or, Beedster (who knows a thing or 2 about Precisions) said the best P sound he has heard from a non P was from a Shergold. Might be worth trying to pick up an old Modulator or something?

Fender: Normal people, normal music. If it's a P I expect it to be played with a pick, nothing fancy but solid stuff. If a J, played with fingers, also solid stuff. Great design, great necks, a bit of a cop out. Warwick: The sex offender of the bass world. Mulletted weirdos. Driftwood. A lump of melted butter. 5 strings. Godawful funk or Jazz fusion. Rickenbacker: Dissapointing to play. Band usually plays decent music though. Classy retro look. Indie. Alembic: A collectors bass, usually hanging up as opposed to being played. Weight. Lots of switches. BC Rich: A new kid at school, bit spotty, not very cool. The weird smelly metallers let them sit with them for lunch. The talk moves away from ear medicine to talk about games workshop. The new kid decides to buy some space marines. Next comes World of Warcraft. This kid goes on to buy a BC Rich. Gibson Thunderbird: Same kid, but flukes a shag with a drunken 19yo on his 16th birthday. Ditches the Space Marines, starts smoking and forms a cock rock band. Still shagging fat birds, but at least he's getting some. Status: Great playability, zero cool. Music Man: Batteries, fixing problems that don't exist. Guildford. Ibanez: Rubbish basses for rubbish metallers. A design team from 1989. Lakland: Fender clones without the fender feel. Sadowsky: Toasted Celinder: ??? Yamaha: Strangely likeable. Motorbikes. Billy Sheehan. Would probably never own one. Bass Collection: Awful. Ugly headstock. Sei: Laaaandaaan. Session musicians. Shuker: Tasteless northerners. Fodera: People who own them using stupid phrases like "priviledged". Get over yourself. Butterflies Zon: Big noses Epiphone: Good stuff but ruined by the varnish/paint on the necks. Burns: Laaandaaan. Retro quirkiness. Cool.
I think that actually, people that make assumptions about any genre of music aren't doing themselves any favours. By all means, dislike a type of music, it's a free world, but opinions based on a minority of people are by no means the be all and end all. Jazz has always remained faceless to me. I'm sure there was an image at one stage or another that went with jazz reminiscent of some cliched beatnik wearing a beret and wielding bongos and a joint, but it's a close-minded assumption that all jazz musicians are of this ilk.
Hey, I'm not saying these assumptions are good things or totally correct, but they exist. To most people Jazz is not "faceless". If it was, no one would be laughing at the Fast Show "Jazz Club" sketches.
Anyway, the point was that not about image, rather the accessibility of jazz music to a musician.
But if the slightly elitist attitude and image of Jazz puts people off the genre, its not unreasonable to suggest that some of these people might also be musicians. The point is, in an image focussed world, Jazz does its self no favours.
