Beginner's electric guitar recommendation
highwayone replied to muttley's topic in General Discussion
I recommend Epiphone starter guitars - loads of choices and I have found the quality consistently good (I recently bought a 335 Dot Studio and it's great). There are loads at Thomann that are in your price range. http://www.thomann.d...ed_wc_set_1.htm http://www.thomann.d...d_wb_bundle.htm http://www.thomann.d...e_lp_100_ch.htm http://www.thomann.d...ecial_black.htm
Seconded, An Epiphone Les Paul Special or SG Special are around the £100 mark and with a set up should play really well, most brand new guitars(6 string) have shocking out of the box playability actionwise. The Epiphone Special's are just cheaper wood and pups etc but to a newbie wouldn't be noticeable. That's my twopenneth -

Selling as no longer needed. 2X Studiomaster VPX15 400W RMS active speakers(in padded bags), Two speaker poles. All in great condition and working well. If you're looking for a portable, active speaker system, you have every reason to be very demanding. The speakers you're looking for have to be tough, affordable and sound good. This is where the Studiomaster VPX range comes in. This attractive range of moulded cabinets, consisting of three models packed with features, has been designed to give you the results you demand. Easy to carry and easy to use, the VPX speakers will transform your sound. The VPX15 boast separate amplifiers. This means that each amplifier can be designed to match the speaker it's driving. Why waste amplifier power on low frequencies. You'll get better control, better sound and you don't have to carry around an amplifier you don't need. The input connector is a balanced 3 pin XLR and it's switchable for mic and line use so you can use it with more or less any input. The three band EQ gives you the control you need when you're using the VPX as an all in one PA system. If you want to use your VPX with an external mixer, the on-board gain and level controls allow signal matching without any compromises. The VPX range is fitted with premium quality cast aluminium chassis bass speakers and a high frequency unit which is integrated into the moulded 60x90 degree horn flare to ensure you enjoy smooth high frequencies. If you us stereo, it will mix the bass frequencies to mono (sound is non directional at low frequencies) while allowing the high frequencies through, in stereo, to you mid/high speakers. So you can use a single VPX15 sub with a pair of VPX12 & 15 cabinets and still get a great sound. The VPX15 is a good all-rounder combining value with performance, flexibility and convenience.

Power handling - program: 800W
Power handling - RMS: 400W
Frequency response: 50Hz - 18kHz
Max SPL: 122dB
Crossover frequency: 2.5kHz
Amplifier power (HF): 100W RMS
Amplifier power (LF): 300W RMS
Low frequency driver: 15" premium cast chassis with Kapton voice coil
Compression driver: 1.75" titanium diaphragm
Nominal dispersion (horizontal) 90 degrees
Nominal dispersion (vertical) 40 degrees
Size: W365mm (14.4") x H720mm (28.3") x D495mm (19.5")
Weight: 22kg

I'm with Hobbayne here, nice bass. Hofner also do a Verythin bass and a club bass, both of which are great fun. The Burns Bison always sounded a bit weak to me but looked the part. Assuming you are avoiding the Jazz / Precision route?
Yeah, trying to stay away from Jazz and Precisions as they fit every era and don't stand out as much. The Squier CV in red does look like it MIGHT do! Thanks for the suggestions.
