looking at a fender p on ebay thats ending later but can't make my mind up if it's a genuine one or not as the seller has only taken a couple of pictures. apparently its a MIJ one. Is there a fender expert on here that might be able to identify it as genuine? cheers. can't get on ebay at work to put a link up but the item number is 271003344261. thanks in advance for any advice.
How is the action set - what gap is there between the 12th fret & the underside of the strings? The higher the action, the more the string has to move, from open/harmonic to fretted, the more tension is changed & the more difficult it is to set the intonation. Also make sure you're not pressing the string 'behind the fret' as you might when playing, just the most gentle touch to hold the string directly onto the fret is all you need. Also - what tuner are you using? Apologies if you know all this already, I'm guessing not? Cheerz, john
The action is quite low(about 4-5mm) the tuner is a korg pitchblack. I suppose it's all about practising! Never attempted it before as I'm a ex drummer!! So all of the advice received is great, thanks.

The bass is brand new from Rattle and Drum in Derby so the strings are also new. I checked the intonation and the fretted 12th was very flat compared to the harmonic and after adjusting quite a bit it was hardly any better. I'm a newbie to bass so wasn't sure how much i could adjust the saddles before I bugger them up as the spring over the screw is starting to bend quite a bit already!! I have one bass that's spot on but my fender precision won't get quite perfect either. Will I damage the spring if i keep adjusting the saddle?? Thanks for the info guys.

Hi, just bought an Ibanez Srx430 new and the intonation is not great. Looked at a few sites, some say you'll never get perfect intonation on a stringed instrument others say you can! Some say to tune the open string to the 12th fret and others say to tune the 12th fret to the harmonic on the 12th?!? I've tried all ways but can't seem to get the bas*$€^d right!!! Is it possible to get the intonation bang on or only on megabucks basses? And if so how? Your expertise is welcomed as ever! Cheers

Just swapped basses with Andy and it was a pleasure to meet and do business with. The Peavey I got from him was cracking and he is an all round good egg so thought I'd start a feedback thread for him.

bought a pitchblack in the end, a steal off the bay!

Anyone recommend a good electronic tuner? I've heard good things about the korg pitchblack and boss tu-15 but that's from people trying to sell me one so not sure! Or are they all much of a muchness? Your comments and knowledge appreciated as always.

I know what some self explanatory effects do like fuzz, wah etc but being a new player I haven't the foggiest what some do like envelope filter and flanger etc?!?! Is there somewhere on here that lists effects and what they actually do? Cheers.

Hi, Only been playing bass for 3 months(past 25 years drumming!) and played my first gig last night! Clueless when it comes to effects. What, if any, do people recommend as a staple diet for effects? i've got a Zoom 708 but it's a bit too technical for me and thinking of having separate pedals instead of an all in one. I'm thinking of adding a compression pedal but not sure what else, no need for wah or weird sounding effects as it's pub rock type stuff! Cheers.
Well I had one and it was great fun - I especially enjoyed the tone setting "Wild Dog". Prices seem to vary a bit but it's a nice little knock about bass that would certainly complete the look of an Oasis tribute band. As a main bass it wouldn't be my first choice but if I was back in my old ways of having loads of basses it certainly is a real contender.
Yeah, prices do seem to vary wildly. I think some sellers on eBay think they have the crown jewels of basses but I do think they are an acquired taste IMO.

Anyone got any opinions on these as I'm tempted to buy one as I've joined an Oasis tribute band and the bassist uses one of these along with a p-bass. I already have a p-bass so if these are as nasty as they look I'll leave it well alone!
Yeah, very good and all that. I can see that he is indeed quite skilled at doing wot he is doing .... but it's not bass playing to me. Give me Lynott, Foxton, Sting, Geddy, Lemmy and JJ.
true dat ^^^^^^^^^^
I have a white one Nice to play, great neck, initially awkward shape but you get used to it. You can get more bass for you money, but can you beat it for looks?
That IS a corker! sell it to me!

Just bought a Trace Elliot 1518 cab off Ian and wanted to say on here what a top bloke he is and how easy it was to buy from him. Cab picked up at 5pm from Scotland and with me in Leicester by 9am next day. Packaging was superb and all comms with Ian was first class. As trustworthy as they come! many thanks mate, would def buy from you again. Karl
