The body join position says signature. They are very high quality instruments, on a USA standard type level, if someone was to open the case on one of these and tell you its a £1500 bass, you would not doubt them bar the missing name, they have that awe that a real America precision should have when you play them.

£4250 -
Rickenbackers come with a roadwear kit ! Its called the case, with its sharp metal edges, the perfect accessory to instantly give your new £1500 instrument that road worn chunk out look.

Great video and it has to be one of the few lines I have heard the 5th string add anything of worth to the song, rather than a drone string the bottom up run really adds to the feel. Love your study of jamerson, amazes me how many bass players have never sat down and listened, one even said, huh he could not play muse, I played him the break in Ill be there before the chorus, play that mate in F like jamerson did, then bring muse back to the table. If one bass player laid down the foundations for the bass playing Riffs as opposed to root notes it was Jamerson, then Dunn I suppose...

Bass rigs-the bigger the better in my experience.

I often considered the impedance issue, but after 10 years of it working perfectly week in week out I came to the conclusion that the 2x10 helps me monitor what I play and the 4x10 carries the boots to the back. -

I run a Peavey firebass 700w head through 1 4x10 and 1 2x10 giving 4 ohms and it has never not been loud enough for any venue from big clubs to small pubs. Prior to this it was Trace Elliot which was just constantly broken or blowing cabs or just never loud enough. In the past, Marshall 400w valve head + 2x15, unreliable junk at its best Ampeg 400w valve head, nice if you are in to distortion. The peavey has been solid for what must be 10 years service now, talk about getting your moneys worth from a bass amp and the ability to set the input gain from overdrive to crisp funk is a dream come true. -
1974 Fender Jazz on Ebay - not quite as it should be!

Is a fools collectable price, thousands of old shafted basses are in the hands of fools that paid a small fortune and now think they own an expensive collectable instrument, what they in fact own is sombeodys clapped out worn lump of junk. For an instrument to be truly collectable, think toy cars, unplayed in the box, same with basses, it needs to be 95% condition and in its case it was made for and the case needs to be mint as well. Now they are exceptions, say if the instrument is so rare that clapped out versions are all thats left, but that is hardly going to happen with a 70's Jazz bass. -

The harder the fretboard, the more the sustain, think of it as a moving nut, thats what you are doing, fretting the string, so the harder contact it has, the more it will fret.

I wonder if James Jamerson would have thought after all these years, modern bass lines would be so influenced by him. This could have been his line, straight from the Jamerson books.

Bet that peavey amp is still going somewhere...

That gap is unacceptable on a new instrument, it would not have got past quality control in a $50 chinese manufacturer !

The USA stuff is getting harder to shift as well, my local store had 4 Rickenbacker 4003 offered from the Distributor, they declined them as they fear a price drop on USA stuff in general, but unusual to have a distributor calling trying to move stock on, normally the Ricks are order only. Often with mail order, they try it on with returns or bad shop stock. As said, this should sit in your hands and be the most beautiful thing you have ever played if not return it. However My advice is on Precisions, look for a mint USA Corona string through from the late ninetys to early naughties, they absolutely sing like a newly strung piano.
If you don't send it back the irritation will fester until you can't stand it any more, at which point you'll sell it on.... for a big loss. Best thing is to send it back now.
Probably the best advice yet.... +1

A quick half click of the rod with an allen key and then quarter back off usually sorts any dead spots. When you pick up and play the squire vintage modified precision, it certainly gives the new USA stuff a right run for its money, if only they said fender on top...

the string tee is the best guide, a fender is twenty past two from the second tee

Having viewed the pictures. The Neckplate has a stamp job The finish is chipped, which is slightly worse than worn 6/10 grade the neck has chinks The bridge is non OEM, if you still have the real one, it will add to value. In its present condition your bass has a value of £375 The value is not the same as Worth, The Worth is what someone will pay, given todays giddy buyers who confuse old with vintage and vintage with collectable , it could easily fetch £450 So Here is my Valuation: Actual value £375 Worth £450 private sale Dealer will buy at £225 Collectable asset increase value 8% per year Hope this helps

The ball park is £275 poor finish/ non original parts/ re-finished to £575 for unplayed mint cased .
