Gary Numan works for south west trains. he once checked my ticket. no jokes
Yeah, I was discussing this with my art teacher. He said that Gary dropped into obscurity for a while, but is making a bit of a comeback recently.
You know I hate to ask But are trains electric? sorry
Nah, but I'm fairly sure Friends are. amidoinitrite? Zach

I now use this really long leathergraft(craft?) strap on my Schecter, ends up slightly lower then my man fruits, but I play with my fingers on the Schecter so I have enough reach to cover all the strings easily. Very comfortable, even though it isn't very wide or thick, and I have a couple of those Grolsch washers as straplocks. Zach

I have a 'break it, I break your legs' contract for all of my gear when it is borrowed. Quite simple really, and no-one breaks anything I lend them. Zach

Do you own the cheapest bass on Basschat?
Jarhead replied to Bassassin's topic in General Discussion
I paid five quid for this. I freely admit I was robbed: Jon.
I would have bought that off you if you hadn't gone and cleaned it up lol. Seriously, I would have. Zach -
Cheers Sam for the organising and thanks Simon for the strings... BigRedX's Born To Rock F4B was the most original bass I have seen since I first picked up a Travis Bean way back when. Surprising nice to play once I stopped plucking the strings the wrong side of the bridge....!!! Great to meet you all and thanks for the words of encouragement. I had an excellent chilled afternoon see you all again soon I hope. Seeing as the basses have been covered here are a few "people" pictures. They are in black and white as that carpet was giving me a headache... Paul
I'm in the first pic, the guy on the far left, holding the bass. In the forth pic, playing the fretless Warwick Thumb. And finally, the fifth pic, on the far right, holding the fretless jazz. Great basses those were, first time I played a fretless as well. Preferred the Warwick because it had the lines, and the neck profile was great. I believe it was Tauzeros, and he had it reprofiled to the same as his Warwick JD Thumb. Zach
Me too. Best music shop in the Midlands bar none. Also Drum and Guitar Centre in Nottingham, and Music Scene in Mansfield Music Scene is a geat small little shop if you're ever in North Notts. Two of the staff are keen bass players themselves, and they usually have one or two goodies there along with the usual stuff. They had a nice Stingray and Wariwck Corvette last time I was there, and often have some interesting vintage stuff as well. the old Sound Control shop in Derby is pretty good too - can't remember what its called now though. And on here obviously!
Its Rattle and Drum Music now, The owner of the drum shop, originally Rattle and Drum, bought the premise after Sound Control went out, and cleaned up, etc. In fact, my drummer was doing work experience and had to help with that. Got a free guitar and a Cubase CD, although the CD doesn't work, and the guitar has a chunk missing from the neck, which is twisted, and the bridge is held up by roughly £3 in coins. Zach
I'll bear all that stuff in mind ^^^ And maybe a friendly basschatter might be kind enough to buy you one
Lovely, thanks mate. I speak for everyone who will be here when I say thanks to you and anyone else who helped you for organizing this. I'll avoid spilling it on anyones bass, I promise Zach
Aye, bar shall be open Any requests regarding food?
Ah right. Could I get away with ordering a Guinness? And how about some crisps or chicken legs, basic party food lol. Zach

I like singlecuts. I even designed one a while ago. I'd scan it in for you all to see and judge, but i don't have a scanner. Looking at it now, its quite rough, but with work it could be something special. The Spear looks pretty good as well, but a bit awkward and very chunky. Zach

I'm working on my grade 4, which I'm doing in may. I've been playing about 2 years, maybe a bit less. Are grades worth anything for GCSE or A level as well? Or just UCAS points for Uni. Zach
well, as OldGit of this this parish will tell you, my Jazz has some cosmetic flaws too. Not visible from front though. We will have to wear name badges or somesuch as I, for one, wont know who anyone actually is.
OK, mine also happens to be covered in stickers, but I'm fairly sure that wouldn't affect the tone too much.
Aye, i was planning on doing that, i'll have to get round to it some time this week. If there's anything else anybody else wants doing preparation-wise, just give me a shout. I'll probably sort some food out too. Oh and as for entry, i think £4 a head sounds fair? That way we can make sure everyone pays the same, and if there's any left over, i'll donate it to basschat or a charity.
£4 a piece sounds fair. I can squeeze my dad for that, seeing as I blew all my cash on various other things. Will the bar be open? Just wondering if I would be able to buy a pint. Of coke, obviously. Zach

Looks pretty good IMO. Get one cheap, make a few mods, could turn out pretty good. And if you think about it, on a very basic level, its roughly the same specs as a P bass. Alder body, single pickup, 20 fret rosewood 'board with maple neck, volume and tone control. I know it won't sound exactly like a P bass, but with some mods, could make it pretty damn close. Zach
-
OK, I'll bring my jazz, but be warned, its beaten up quite badly for a relatively new bass. Zach
-
The Vintage sounds like my kind of cab. Unfortunately, unless you start charging mere pennies, and I mean pennies, for them, its going to be a long time till I get my hands on one. Or 2, or 3, or 4, etc. Zach
-
2 of those, and I doubt your hearing will survive to hear the dispersion. Turn up at the pub gig 'What do you mean its too big?' Zach
-
I really want a full stack now, after seeing Al's rig. I have the 1x15, but my head only goes to 4 ohms, coincidentally, the impedance of the cab. Don't suppose anyone is willing to trade me the head and a 2x10 or 4x10 MBC for a 2nd hand Warwick Profet 3.2? Zach
Where abouts? unless you are interested
Haha. Its fair game mate, if you can get up to Derby. The cabs are on the top floor of The Big Blue Coffee Company. Zach
-
Actually, earlier I saw two Acoustic cabs. Looks battered and beaten, but they could still work. I'm going to ask about them next time I go to that cafe. Zach
I have used the OW strings as well, but I don't like them that much. Luckily, I've found that OW can just supply the F string which is a 20 or 21 or so. So I have a mix of D'Addario and OW on my basses. Here's the page from S.I.T which shows the strings that they do, right up to a 0.195. http://www.sitstrings.com/show_product.php?id=29 You can also get the bigger strings individually from http://www.octave4plus.com/ They go from a 0.005 to a 0.200
Actually, thats a .262 for $45. Apparently tunes up to F# with a 34" scale. About the same tension as the steel ropes on a suspension bridge, for those of you unsure. Zach

Planet Waves Cables + Dunlop Strap Locks
Jarhead replied to Musicman20's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use the Dunlop straplocks, because they don't need re-tightening. And they were the only ones the shop had. Zach -
After looking around for something special to go with the 9, I came across this site: http://www.dslstraps.com.au/ They do have a distributor in the UK, who can get you whatever's on the site. My wife's told me that she organised for me to have the 3 1/2" saddle brown leather with lime green suede backing, for Valentine's Day (although it might be a little late as it's one of the only colours not in the UK at the moment).
I actually have one of the Motorhead signature straps. Absolutely great, wouldn't trade it for anything. Not on the website, but definitely a DSL, came with a pick holder for your keyring and a leather Motorhead wristband type thing. Zach

What was the damage if you don't mind me asking? PM me if you want. I would love to own one of these. Give me a shout when you decide to sell up Zach

Why not use two different jacks, so that you can run two amps at the same time. Then you can have two different sounds going on, or just make it even louder by turning both up to full. Zach
