1. Yeah, the bit about SM58's and SM57's being better for lower voices would explain a lot, mainly why my voice sounds terrible through any sort of amplification system. Could just be because I can't sing for my life though Zach
2. Looks awesome man. I didn't think Trace Elliots could look any cooler, but you have proved me very wrong Zach
3.
Bring it if you like! You could try out other people's amps with it
True true, might as well in that case then. Now then, get my mum to drive me or take a train... Decisions decisions.
Well, i can bring my new KSD bass with EBS pre, and my fafner with either one or both of my classic cabs! Watcha think, half or full stack?? Jake
Full stack, you know you want to! Zach
4. I'm up for this, but I doubt I will bother bringing gear seeing as most of you have already played a Fender jazz Zach
5. Don't suppose you might start building and selling them if this one turns out well? Could probably get some good business off here. Zach
6. Best cure for a crap sounding amp is a new one. You get what you pay for when it comes to amps really, no other way around it. You could probably have a go at making your own, but you might need some help if you haven't done it before. Zach
7. I like it, but maybe in a transparent blue or red or something. Don't think I'm likely to get one though, because I have no money. My new amp didn't fall out of the sky, unfortunately. Would have been nice if it had though. Zach
8. Well, it could be useful. For instance, last gig, me and the guitarists needed to tune down to C#, which was easy enough for me because I had my second bass already tuned to it, but both of them needed to mess about for a minute, whereas a robot guitar you would just set it, then wait maybe 15/20 seconds which you could talk through. Theory is sound at least lol, practice could be a bit worse, but at Music Live, the guy demoing on the Gibson stand used it to great effect. Zach
9. Dowel maybe? Stick it in, cut to size, sand it down and paint it could work if you had the size of the pot holes. Zach
10.
I just quoted it. I don't understand it.
Lol, OK, thanks for the link though. Has anybody actually done this mod, or is experienced with modifying pedals? Would be a great help. Zach
11. Right, just had a look inside it, and the only capacitors I see are a 100µF and a 2.2µF. Which is the one I need to take the earth off? Zach
12. Try Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, always gets a laugh, no matter what the crowd. Simple as f*** really, takes about 20 seconds to learn. Zach
13. Anybody ever modified a wah pedal to a volume pedal? If you have, or you know how, could you tell me how, because a volume pedal would be more useful then a wah to me. Zach
14. £30 and my soul for it mate Its worth it, honest Zach
15. I would try lemon oil, or one of the other types of oil that others can recommend through experience. IIRC, some people use lighter fluid, stuff like that. Zach
16. Wow, thanks for all the replies guys, its really been helpful. I think I probably will buy the ESP, because I can adjust to just about anything, even 5 string Warwicks with the big neck profiles. If I see anything on here for a similar price thats a 6er then I probably will buy it. Thanks for all your advice guys, been a great help. Zach
17.
Hmm, yeah but its a big decision and there's a lot to weigh up before plonking down the moola when viewed in the context of custom instruments, resale values, laws of ever diminishing returns etc. etc.
Shut up and buy it already! If I had the money I'd have sent a pm, organized a pickup time, and have it by now. Do it for Basschat! You know you want to! Zach
18.
Start with what feels comfortable, then move towards what the song demands. If you need a P-bass to sound like an upright double (think The Look Of Love by Dusty Springfield, for example) you'll be resting your thumb on the side of the neck. If you're playing All The Small Things by Sum 41 you'll have the heel of your hand resting on the bridge. Above all though, if it feels and sounds right, then it's right.
Don't you mean Blink 182? lol And I'd play wherever feels and sounds best for you, no definitive place for you to play, no 'awesome tone=here' place, except the one that you find really. Zach
19.
I'd let her get her own effects, if she wants them, but how about something a bit better than the Rumble?
Amp upgrade is probably best, maybe even a modeling amp, so she doesn't have to mess about with pedals.
Heh - she can borrow an amp for gigging, that's what every other 15 year old bassist does.
Heyy, I'm 14 and i use my own. Its bloody heavy, and is practically impossible to fit in the car, but I have to, because the bands we usually gig with don't tend to have bassists. Zach
20. Well, I thought this year was alright. I went on the Friday with my school, and I was plenty happy. Played plenty of basses, so I'm now GASsing for a 6 string as soon as I can. +1 to the comment about the p1ss poor Fender and Marshall stands, practically nothing there. Last year the Fender stand was massive, and so was the Marshall stand, this year there was hardly anything there. Hope its better next year. Zach
21. Hey guys, Recently, I have been thinking about purchasing a 6 string bass, after having played one at Music Live. Originally I wanted a Schecter Custom Stiletto 6 string, the one with the natural finish and flame maple top, but they seem practically impossible to find in the UK, online and in shops. So, I decided to think about other options, like this or this. Has anybody played either of them? Or do you know where i could find the Schecter, because that would be the ideal one, depending on the price. Zach
22. I would try them all out, but I would also look out for any second hand bargains. I managed to get my Fender MIM Jazz for £250 because my music teacher was selling up, so I had it off him sharpish. If you look around, you could probably find something worth much more for much less. Zach
23. Looks terrible, and I actually like Bongos as well lol Zach
24. OBBM is recommended by just about everyone on the forum because the leads he makes are kick ass, put simply. Message him with the sizes and types you need, and he can make them for you. Zach
