Does Peavey usually display at Music Live, because if they do, I might as well just buy the TVX there, because thats when my dad gives me the money for a cab. Zach
That's cool - If I was looking for a cheap stand alone cab, I'd go for a peavey 410 tvx - they weigh a bit but I'm always impressed at how good they sound- new they're about £230 - secondhand, I've seen them for as low as £100 Other than that - a used warwick 411 pro or hartke xl 4x10 would be a good bet I've always found a 1x15 on its own to be difficult to hear live and I wouldn't touch the laney stuff with a pooey stick. The marshall dbs range was a bit naff in my opinion, gigged a 4x10 + 1x15 dbs rig a couple of months ago - couldn't hear the low stuff at all - I'm not familiar with the mbc stuff however.
Awsome, who sells them? If i can find one, Ill have a go, but otherwise it could just be a blind buy. Im not hugely bothered about tone, mainly because im fully aware im not going to have enough cash for a while to start chasing it lol. Zach

Guys, the shortlist is because of my small budget. I have found all of these cabs for under £200 online, and i have enough space for them. Zach

Come on guys, help us out please Zach

I'm kind of lost right now guys, I have a choice of four cabs, 2 4x10s and 2 1x15s. the 2 4x10s are the Laney RB410 or the Marshall MBC410, and the 2 1x15s are the Marshall MBC115 or the Laney Rb115. Anybody here have any experience with any of these? Zach

Yeah, its not meant to have the grooves cut into it, no idea why, because they are quite useful, but my Fender Jazz doesn't have the grooves in the string tree so I assume its normal. Zach

My bands K.O.D, and we play an extremely vague mix of rock, punk and indie, with a few acoustic tracks chucked in for good measure. Check out the myspace in my sig, where we've got our latest tracks, with me playing bass. Add us if you like it Zach

The way I learned triplets was one of the guitar teachers where i go to for bass lessons was teaching me the Lamb Of God song Hourglass, so we spent about 10 mins working on that. How i do it, is by resting the edge of my palm on the bridge of my bass, then stick out the 3 fingers I don't use dead straight. Zach

Take The Power Back by Rage Against The Machine My band has finally listened to me in my choice of covers, and I'm learning all the fills and the solo bit right now, which doesn't sound right, any one got a link to a good tab for it? Zach
there's just one bit i can't grasp which is around 2:16 in the song, really fast part. great song to play though!
Took me and my teacher about 5 minutes to decide that what he played was something along the lines of -----10-----12-----10--------------------- ----------------------------12-----10------ --------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------
in the order you said them, but you can interchange the hyperdrive and the wah depending on what sound your after, they produce very different sounds, both are awesome for different things. As an eq and amp model, id always have the zoom last, just makes sense, and plus you can headphone jam and use the drum machine and stuff without the other effects getting in the way
thanks Kev, I'll sort it out next band practice Zach

How did it go Sarah? We all want to know, seeing as we've all been throwing support and advice at you Zach
-
Around the World-RHCP My bass teacher has been teaching me parts of it over my last few lessons, and I can finally play the whole thing. Next step, convince my band to cover it... Zach
-
Right, currently I have 3 pedals, a wah pedal, my hyper drive, and the zoom b1x multi-effects unit. What order should i chain them in to get the best results? The hyperdrive is used for fuzz, and the multi-effects is used as an eq and amp modeler. Zach

Hercules stands. They just work and can hold pretty much anything. Zach

Lol, I had about a month and a half to learn the songs for my bands first gig with me, because i only joined temporarily for a charity gig, and they decided to keep me around If you have been practicing enough and you know the songs, you'll be fine. Don't drink to much before you go on though, otherwise you can make daft, drunken mistakes, which most of us, me included, probably have before. Zach

I rest my rear on my computer seat, 1 of those spinny jobs. Practice in front of my pc so i can play along to tracks I have on my pc or youtube. Had to remove one armrest so that i could rest my bass on my leg without it poking into the armrest. Zach

I never knew him, but from what I have read he will be greatly missed by all. My condolences to his family and friends. Zach
Your right Zach that is 'really weird'... you have an amp with a dodgy plug that cuts out when you shake the plug and you carried on using it without checking the plug connections or just replacing the plug/lead altogether "Earth calling Zach", this is your life and/or property you are talking about!
Yh, I knew it was potentially dangerous, but i had it checked out by my mates dad, who used to be an electrician, and he said it was alright, but just didn't have his tools with him to repair the loose connection. I only remembered the other day, and my dad helped me out with the fix, just had to tighten up the loose wire and its all good now. Zach -

Actually, I'm gonna say something that you could all find really weird. For every practice and gig I've played so far bar one, I use my Peavey 50 and have had no problems with it whatsoever. Every practice, turn up, plug in and play, and i can always hear myself through the guitarists and drummer, when I'm stood right next to their 50 watt amps, and it never distorts or anything. If anyones interested, I may be selling up soon, although be warned that the power plug is a small bit dodgy, and if its shook about while plugged in, it may or may not cause the amp to die, but I think I sorted it the other day.
Distortion - Okay, I haven't given too much time to the distortions yet, but they'll be important to the sound. I want one as a lead sound, so something which is I guess pretty high gain and 'guitar'ish. This is mostly used for playing chords on my 7 string, and the odd lead melody with plenty sustain. Would a guitar pedal actually be better for this? Overdrive - This is the second half of the distortion problem. I want something for much lower stuff, on the E/A strings mostly. Something grittier than the lead sound, with a bit of bite, but keeping the definition. I was thinking that something with a blend feature would be best for this? Correct me if I'm wrong. I've been underwhelmed with the distortions on my GT6 though so far, and my Big Muff is absolutely too fuzzy and messy for this - I want something tight and focused.
Have you tried the Ashdown Hyper drive? Really good build quality, and sounds fantastic, no loss in bottom end, and can do lead sounds brilliantly, although you may need two of them if you want both distortion and overdrive in one song, just to speed up the settings change.
