I got the Jaco-style Icon Series about a month ago. Plays very well, and the tone is just perfect. Only thing I don't like is the the pickups are not shielded. I get a buzzing whenever I don't touch the strings. A bit of a drag that I have to shield it myself

Helle there my fellow bassheads. It's a wonderfull weekend in sunny Denmark, feels almost like summer. I have a 15" Gallien Krueger cab, and are thinking about adding a EBS cab, either a 12" or a 10". What are your thoughts, and is there a difference in the sound I would get from adding the 10" instead of a 12"? Thanks, and enjoy the weather while it's good - well, I just hope it's good no matter where you are ;-)
Just spotted you list a Squier in your signature - you know what I'm talking about then LOL
Yep, I have the Deluxe Jazz (active) - and I don't think I'll ever sell it. Next step up might be a Fender MIM

I'm looking at Fender basses, in the budget Mexican series. I'm a bit lost, since there are other series in the price range (Blacktop, Moderne Player etc.). What are the differences in tone, quality, playability etc. In short, what series offers the best bass for a budget buyer? I'm mainly looking at a Fender Mexican Jazz - and likely a fretless Jazz later on. Thanks for (hopefully) clearing this up for me

Can the 120 really go the distance with a drummer? Not on stage, but in the rehearsal room?

I really like the tone of the EBS Classic Session 120w combo, but 120w may not be enough. The next best thing could be the Reidmar 250w - not exactly the vintage tone of the combo - as Reidmar is a class D head, and the 120w combo is more of a slimmed down version of the EBS Classic 450 head. Have anyone used the Reidmar with other cabs than the EBS 10" and 12"? Someone said that it could be difficult getting the warm sound with other cabs than the EBS Classic cabs?

I have only one question: Can I get a fretless version?
-
Thank you for all inputs, I will definitely take them into consideration. Is the VJ96 replaced with the V74? Can't find the VJ96 on the homepage anymore
-
Thanks John, much appreciated

I'm getting interested in a fretless at a reasonable price - think Squier. I just stumbled across a bass from a company called Vintage. Not to crazy about the look, but then again - there's a cool sound from it, according to Youtube. Anyone who can tell me a bit about the good/bad from this company? It's priced around what a Squier VM fretless Jazz is at. The one I'm looking at is the Icon Series VJ96 fretless. Hi guys, and happy holidays. I've been looking at the Hartke HA 3500 head lately, but people tell me that the fan is a bit noisy. What about the LH 500, is there a difference in sound between the two heads? Is the LH 500 as good a choice as the HA 3500 has been for many years? Which head would you choose, and why? Thanks

'Tis the season to make that list. Since I'm a sucker for CD box sets as well as groovy basslines, I was thinking of getting a few wishes dotted down on the dreaded annual wish list. So far i have only found a Jaco Pastorius 2CD, a Maurcus Miller 5CD collection and a Charles Mingus box. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

I'm getting the P-version. Sounds great, looks cool - feels wonderful.
The mag 300 has no compressor the mag300 evo2 has. Ive had both and i preffered the evo2. I had the 2x10 combo and a 1x15 ext
Thanks for clearing that up
-
Yup. Ashdown mag 300 EVO II 1x15" versus an Ashdown mag 300 (not EVO) 2x10"
-
Ahem...i have a small bonus question! Is there something called a Mag 300 (without the EVO-name)? I have two amps that I'm looking on s/h, one is for sure a EVO II, the other one is "possibly" an EVO. If this is the casem should I avoid the non-EVO amp? Hope someone could clarify this for a non-Ashdown user
-
Thanks for the info. I got my eye on two MAGs. A 1x15" and a 2x10". What's your thoughts on these two? Again. Thanks for all comments and inputs

What Ashdown would you get? The MAG 300 combo or the T115 250S combo?

P, J or Ray - can you tell the difference in their sound?
isteen replied to isteen's topic in Bass Guitars
Nobody want to show their guessing skills? I like the number 3 Sound best, and I might guess it's a P bass. Who wants to take a shot at it, before the correct answers are revealed? -
I could hear the difference, but I'm not quite sure what bass I like the best http://dubsaint.wordpress.com/2012/06/15/p-j-or-ray-whats-the-difference-anyway-part-2-take-the-sound-test/ That said, I love to play on my Jazz - the P is a big chunk of wood compared to the slick and sexy J. Never played a Ray - yet!

No way Highfox, the Renault is my soulmate. It's scratched and has a few dings, it don't run 100% every day, some days it won't even start - and the stereo inside is outdated, so If I was a car - I would be that exactly Renault Megane!

What pick do you prefer? For many years (both on guitar and bass) my preferred pick was a Yamaha Hard. I can't find that specific pick anymore so I'm looking for a new one - and searching online showed me a lot of strange picks. Some made of bone, wood and even metal! What is your preferred choice of pick? I use a pick on my P-bass, and fingers on my J-bass

I was cleaning out in my man cave, and got caught up in something else. I got to play around with a Behringer combo. After a while, I actually got a nice tone out of it, so despite the bad rep Behringer has, I like to play my combo at home. One thing I don't enjoy from it (apart from the weight) is the lack of power! I have a 90w combo and it's only good for goofing around with alone. Not even in an acoustic trio is it worth much. I have never tried the Behringer U450/550w heads, but I plan to try them out one day. Just a few words from a man taking a break from the almost impossible task of making my hide-away look good and tidy - and Stanley Clarke is blasting out of my speakers
-
A combo is often cheaper, but the weight... If you are dragging your gear around a lot, I think you will replace a combo with a head/cab soon. I know I did.
