Rob Trujillo sort of playing flamenco

Thanks, looks like it's time to try another set, just be sure we're both talking about the same strings, it's the ones is this package, not the old ones with the white P on the package

I'd be sending it back even if it meant paying the postage, neither of my £250 Squiers have them problems so it's not something I'd accept on a bass costing three times as much, at that price I'd want to see & play it before handing over the money.
-
I'm not that precious about stuff, certainly not with stuff as cheap as bass gear but there's a difference between damage from use or abuse, putting a beer glass on top of my cab or amp is abuse and is asking for trouble.
-
I play difference basses on different songs because of the tuning, but they both sound and play pretty much the same, I'd definitely have an issue if somebody wanted me to play a difference bass, unless of course I was being paid to play on somebody else's album in which case I'd play whatever they want.
I got an amplug and while it doesn't sound as good as an amp its quite good enough for practising. not had to turn it all the way up. using it with passive Precision and active (emg-p) Warmoth fretless fwiw.
This has been my experience as well, with a passive P I've got the amplug volume on 4 and the gain on 6, it does seem to loose some of the high end but it's good enough for practicing. Headphones seem to make a difference aswell, my Sony MDR-V6's are much lounder and sound better than the ipod ones.
I personally think tab is utter sh*te, and kids stuff. It will make you a less consummate musician, you will find playing with other musicians harder, your theoretical understanding of the music will not be as good and you will be less employable. But if none of that matters, then the worst people will do is get on a huff about it on the internet.
Unless you're planning on reading I fail to see how being able to read has any effect on playing with other musicians, theory is something you should know anyway, not something that reading forces you to learn. Reading for you might have changed your life but for me it's almost useless, I have no interest in playing DB or playing in orchestras, jazz, musicals etc, if I hadn't learnt in school I certainly wouldn't bother now & I'd still be just as busy as I am now. As you said, different strokes for different folks.
I personally think tab is utter sh*te, and kids stuff.

Rotosound Roundwounds - at least a year, possibly two. But then, I don`t like new strings. I Fast-Fret them once a week, but other than that, no special treatment. I`d play flats, but can`t get on with the feel of them.
Stainless or nickel? I could never get the nickels to last more than 6 months, although I'd imagine they would last longer if you only play with a pick.

I haven't noticed any residue on mine from the purple meths, cheep & saves buying strings all the time.
People like the idea that a good ear is the magic bullet because it allows them to remain comfortable with the fact that they can't read but still see themselves as credible. In truth, an informed ear is always more important than reading because reading is useless without it but, if you are serious about your playing, why settle for that?
or maybe they have no use for reading, I don't do session work but I have done lots of dep work and not once have I been given any sheet music or tabs, for most players in a typical rock/punk/metal band reading simply isn't as important as people try to make out.
-
TAB is only easier to read because that's what you've learnt.
I actually learnt to read music in school before the internet & tabs, I still think tabs are easier for new players, but anyway, pretend you've just picked up a bass for the first time, with no idea of where the notes are on the bass or staff, I don't see how anybody couldn't find tabs easier in that situation.
-
What are they new Fender 9050's like for tension and lifespan? I tried the old ones years ago and found them way to tight compared to the 7050 rounds and after a few months I could already hear the E going dead, no impressed at all.
Tab has absolutely no advantage over notation.
If that was true nobody would use it, it has the advantage of being much easier to read for new players and much more easily available than sheet music. As I said above, I'm not saying don't learn to read dots but for a typical sunday band there's more important things to learn, like playing by ear. I wonder how many new guitar and bass players would have started playing without tabs, there certainly seems to be more new players now than 10+ years ago when the only way to learn was to keep rewinding your cassette until you learnt the part.
Note length, timing, articulation. All tab shows you is a number on the fret board, notation shows you music.
Only if the person tabbing it was lazy http://tabs.ultimate...h_ver3_btab.htm Shows timing and note length.
Can't play what you hear then listen harder and learn. How do you think the people writing the tab are doing it? If they can write what they hear you can play what you hear. As I say, the accuracy of tab put up on sites is so flaky I wouldn't trust any of it.
I play by ear most of the time, but the point was, who says my or your ear is any better than anybody elses? I find most popular tabs aren't completly wrong, you could play them without it sounding like crap but they're missing fills or parts where the original player threw in a quick octave.

Electrition came today, nothing wrong with the house wiring, touching the strings makes no difference, I'm starting to wonder if it was something outside the house since it stopped doing it monday I guessl, if it comes back I'll have to start going around turning everything off. thanks guys

I'm not saying don't learn to read music but if you're playing in a typical sunday rock/metal/punk band don't expect to see many dots, being able to play by ear is much more important.
Tab is very limited. It doesn’t, and can't, give you all the information you need, so what is the point?
What's missing from tabs that you get with dots? I find tabs are generally a good starting point, some are right, some a wrong but learning by ear doesn't guarantee you'll get it right either.

I get it with all makes of strings, E always goes dead way before the rest.

Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
MrTaff replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
They all sound good, no idea which is which though. -
I've never really cared about what the headstock says so assuming they sound like a stingray, I want one.
-
Tried as a mates house no noise regardless of where the tone is which rules out the basses, still noisy at home but the noise goes away with the tone off, picking up interference from something in the house?
-
Going to try that tommorrow hopefuly, I've always had a slight hum here but never like this, I've noticed now that if you listen long enough the noise slows down & speeds up, almost sounds like the interference you'd get from a petrol chainsaw but way to late for anybody to be using one.
-
I'm not even sure you'd call this crackling but what ever it is needs sorting by Sunday, I've two identical Squier VM P's both started making this sound today. I've already eliminated the head, pedalboard and cables, they sound fine through a Vox Amplug which to me only leaves a problem with the house wiring, anything I've missed before calling an electrician? sample http://dl.dropbox.co...697/crackle.wav edit: I've tried other power points in the house, still does it.
-
I'd pick a VM over the CV, I couldn't feel or hear any reason for the CV to cost more & I didn't get on with the small frets on the CV.
-
I've played the Squier VM & CV along with the MIM & MIA Fenders when I was looking for a P, the MIA was clearly the best but not enough different to justify the price tag. The VM & MIN pretty much felt & played the same but the VM with the Duncan Designed pickups sounded better, I didn't get on with the CV's sticky neck and small frets although it did sound good.

Fender Precision Chrome Covers Disappointment
MrTaff replied to Hobbayne's topic in General Discussion
I've never seen the point in fitting covers and limiting where you can play, I play anywhere from the bridge to over the neck to get the tone I want and covers would just get in the way.
