Hi, I am in a bit of a pickle. I am looking for a small yet giggable bass rig. I have limited storage space in my house... but I need a rig that is useable at jams and gigs I play in a post hardcore band I am on a tight budget of about £500-600 max, and would prefer 2nd hand. I am wondering if a combo is the best option? Any advice?

I currently have 2 Laney 2x15 cabs, rated to 8ohmn and I am looking for a new bass head to power them. I play in a Doom/sludge band with a lot of low end, and also play through a Bass Big Muff. What head would be best for this purpose? I would prefer solid state. please help...

I do indeed use the 4 from a 5 string set a strings, works ace and me bass sounds good. Thank you for all the replies i am gunna study up on a few amps and then go and try a few out cheers

hi, I play in a band that is tuned to B E A D and use a Warwick Streamer Stage 1. I was wondering what amp would people suggest for playing live? I am strugling to find an amp that sounds good and has enough power for the live environment in this tuning. I am willing to save up and buy something decent, but is there anything out there for folk on a ight budget? A few suggestions woul be great, if it is a case of saving more then i will. Oh and is a combo better than a head and cab? cheers JaY

I have a Warwick Streamer and yesterday when i was practising and playing about with my bass pod it fell off me and hit the floor. I thought "bugger, strap must a broken" But alas no, the strap didn't break the rear strap button came out of the body, lncluding the screw and everything. I tried to just screw the screw back in but alas it just spins and spins. So how do i fix this? i guess either a fatter screw, or fill it with summit and use the screw i have any advice on this would be great as using duct tape the now makes it look horrible. cheers

I agree with Wulf. If you intend to just use patches you have pre setup then go for the bean version. I chose the Live version as the band i use it mostly in relies on a few effect "patch" changes through out the songs, so the live version is ideal. the FBV boards look really good and can transform the bean version into a live version. I just wanted an effects package that can do live and studio stuff easily, plus through playing guitar for years i am used to using pedals. I also play in a band where i just use an amp sim with overdrive, in B tuning for a low rumble sound and don't use anything else the pod is again perfect for this. So i had to cover 2 different bands with 1 setup. The bean version is great value for money. The Pro would be amazing to own but i could not justify the price for the unit itself and then the extra cash for the pedal board. I hope that helps, i do use the amp sims a lot and they are really really great sounding. I am really happy that i chose to get a Pod, what ever you decide to go for you will not be disappointed.

I bought a Pod Xt Live off David Nimrod on here, used it for the first time at a jam yesterday and it is a really good pedal indeed. I also love how good it sounds while using headphones so my girlfriend and my neighbors cant complain anymore. I just have 1 question. I need to get myself a decent gigging amp. Well a head for starters. Would i be better to get a head or go for the pre-amp option and just use the amazing amp sims on the pedal. I don't know if it is worth getting a really good head if i am going to just turn the eq off on the amp and use the POD. I do like the idea of a preamp what ones would everyone recommend going for? Again i am on a budget so prob something under £200.

what does the JCM800 head sound like? I am thinking of buying one. I know the guitar amps are amazing and used by a lot of bands, wondering what the bass amp is like?

Thanks for that Ped. I definatly want one now. I think i am better going for the RackMount Version as the band that i am in is going to do a lot of home studio recording in the future. I think you have made up my mind for me. I just have 1 more question i know nothing about rack units and things like preamps etc.. what is a good preamp to get? from very budget to expensive, if you could help with say a few diff models and prices that would be great. Or am i being silly, is it better to just plug it into venues P.A. system and not have a bass rig at all? We jam at a rehersal studio so there is usually a bass combo or stack there, depending what room we get so i could just plug it into that, is there anything special you have to do to do this? But live i am a little confused. I am used to plugging into an amp you see and all of this confuses me, sorry to sound like such a dumb ass.

Another question from me about what equipment to buy. I am really needing to get a decent effect unit. I am very tempted to go for the Line6 Pod Xt Live, the floor pedal version as i feel it would be my playing / sound more depth and would enable me to get some cool effects on the go for the clean bits in songs and also get a good overdrive sound. Plus use it live and in the studio. The questiona i have are, is the Pod XT Live worth the money? How good is it? Anyone one got one and use it for gigging etc..? Am i better spending more money and going for the rack mount Bass XT Pro? and if i go for this can i just plug it striaght into a cab or do i need a preamp or head? or is there a better unit out there? so many questions i know but i am new to all of this.... any advice / help would be great. thanks

Budget to you may mean something different to others.... [/quote] I am prob on a bugdet of less than £300 maybe even less than £250. I am not sure if there is good cheap stuff out there. So any ideas?
