1. I like that, lovely feel. Sounds good through my ropey in ear phones at work!
2. Nice score Paul, that black looks very cool . I guess the only visual clue on the increased body size is the distance from the bridge to the body edge.
3. +1 to pretty much all of the above, but my favourite was probably Weekend World (Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2dpq4sExgs
4.
Its not just weddings though surely. apparently Light My Fire, and Arthur Browns Fire are popular at Cremations. Not many funerals have bands though. Anybody played a funeral ?
I've heard of "Another one bites the dust" being played over the PA at a biker's funeral. Must be true, the vicar told me.
5. A Bass VI, a Limelight P, an NR Thunderbird...
6. Does Antigua count as a burst for this thread?
7. With the Precision, volume on max and tone between 75%ish and 100%. With the Tbird, for the "classic Tbird sound", neck on 10, bridge on about 8 and tone on 10. If I want to kid myself that it sounds a bit like a Jazz, I'll reverse the volume settings but lose a bit of volume in the process.
8. Thanks AT, hadn't twigged the scale length. I'd seen the one on Ebay which talks about being based on the Pawn Shop Bass VI... 9. Has anybody tried the Revelation RJT 60 B - the Bass VI alike. Looks nice, decent price too, well below the latest Squier price! http://thebassgallery.com/bass/rjt-60-b-bass.html
10. This is at Bishopthorpe Road York. We're playing on the back of a wagon at the street party to celebrate the TDY finishing stage 2 in York. Should be a hoot, but I'll need some fingerless gloves!
11.
All finished and should be with me next week. The brief was a replica of Phil's iconic maple boarded CSB era Precision, but worn to emulate how it would look today had Phil still been alive and playing - I don't think it's turned out so badly. A few others here https://www.icloud.c...#AC55Z2WMG9WQrP
Rik, that looks fantastic! As others have noted, if Philip saw that, he would approve!
12. Something very smart about an ebony bird. GLWTS!
13. Great story - and a fab looking bass. I'd quite fancy an old P...
14. Just bought a Dimarzio P pick up from Jose. Friendly bloke with very good communications, prompt posting and bullet proof packaging. Recommended!!
15.
Under-rated bass players in humungous bands and who rarely get mentioned on BC possibly because they're a bit unfashionable or because they eschew fretboard acrobatics, preferring instead to 'play for the song': Mike Rutherford Bill Wyman Noel Redding John McVie Dusty Hill Garry Tallent (E Street Band) Joe Bouchard (BOC) Tina Weymouth Colin Greenwood Under-rated, older British bass players of whom we rarely speak: Tony Levin Sparko (Feelgoods) Johnny Spence (Pirates, Johnny Kidd) Gerry McAvoy (Gallagher / NBZ) Henry Cluney (SLF) Tony Goggle (Wayne Fontana, Mungo Jerry, Foghat, Yngve Malmsteen, Quartet of Doom) Ronnie Lane (Faces) John Wetton (Family, Crimson, Roxy, Heep, Wishbone Ash) Johnny Gustafson (Big Three, Roxy) Barry Adamson (Magazine, Visage, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) Jah Wobble And Rocco Prestia.
Blimey, what a great list! Special nods to Johnny Spence and Sparko.
16. Just, wow. A lovely duo, nice one indeed.
17. Great score on the cards there Blue. I saw them at one of the !976 shows at Earls Court and Don Valley Stadium Sheffield in 1995: so that means I'm overdue seeing them again!
18. Later ones come with the fixing on the back of the neck. It should help neck dive, but the bass may tilt away from you a bit. You can counter this by letting your strap at the bridge end ride across the front of the bass. Not pretty but it works.
19. It certainly is! I'll drop you a pm Rod
20. The Black Horse on Monkgate used to be known as the Tap and Spile. Good town centre sort of pub and based on our previous experience there, should be a busy night! https://www.facebook...rseyork?fref=nf
21. Those LPs look the business Andy - particularly the black! We're playing the Black Horse in York this Saturday (28th) midway through a weekend long cider festival . I shall not be imbibing due to the likely impairment of my musical abilities! Driving too...
