I'd like a vintage mustang that is as good as my JMJs. Failing that a JMJ that skipped the relicing process on the production line.

I use a Sylvester and Tweety Pie shopping bag from Tesco which cost about a quid. This holds all the bits & bobs I need. Before that I used a Minions one.

My board has the overdrive last in the chain, however I'm only using a few pedals - no pitch/delay/modulation etc. Mustang Bass -> [Boss TU-3 Tuner] -> [Boss SY-1 Synth] -> [SFX Thumpinator] -> [Boss LMB-3 limiter] -> [Boss ODB-3] -> Ashdown ABM 600 EVO IV The LMB-3 is always on (as is the thumpinator). The grit & dirt in my sound comes from the Amp, and the OBB-3 is used as an extra boost punched in when needed, and never when using the SY-1.

I tried making my own mute once following instructions I found on the internet. I cut a good piece of sponge and put it under the strings but it sounded terrible. Also the jam & buttercream ruined my strings.

I don’t really know a lot about Justin Meldal-Johnsen’s playing, but he certainly specs up a great mustang bass. I’m glad he wasn’t arrogant enough to insist on his signature being on the front of the headstock. I bought my JMJ mustangs due to them being great basses.

Oh no - I baby my Waza Air Bass for fear of this kind of thing happening. It seems that with the design of the headphones and the case, it is almost inevitable. Although I'm fairly handy with most common soldering jobs, I don't think I would tackle this myself if mine went a similar way for fear of causing more damage. I would imagine that one of the chaps Roland recommend should be able to make an effective repair. I hope you are able to get it fixed and its not too expensive for you.

How low do you wear your bass? I always adjust my straps (Mostly leathergraft suede comfy ones) to the longest they’ll go for the classic ‘cover your nuts’ look. An additional benefit of this is that the bass gives you cover if your flies come undone - as happened to Pete Way here:

I've just bought a modded ODB-3, but it came without any documentation. I have found some settings I like by trial & error, and as I also have an unmodded ODB-3 which I bought just before I saw the modded one, I can compare the two and appreciate that the mod does represent an improvement. Does anyone have any documentation about what the three position mini toggle switch is specifically switching between? Is selecting different clipping diodes? If so which ones are in which position?
