  1. The lightly scalloped fingerboard edges make me cringe as much as the 'about to fold up on itself' bridge'
  2. I think Tom Waits once described a 1958 buick that colour as being 'Monkey 5h1t brown'
  3. Before 2018 mine would have been exactly like the Daphne blue JMJ sig but without the roadworn treatment. Since JMJ has nailed that bass and I can live with the roadwornedness of the one I bought, I would get Fender to build something based on my Squier SS Jaguar with a few tweaks for my own sig. Alder (rather than agathis) body with Candy apple red Nitro finish neck dimensions - exactly as the squier Rosewood fingerboard Fender High Mass bridge Hipshot lollipop tuners Fender Yosemite pickups with CTS/switchcraft loom including greasebucket circuit - these sound thunderous on my squier Thomastic JF-324 flats Rosewood fingerboard chrome thumbrest correct 60s style Jazz bass knobs Chrome thumbrest on the bass side Extra long comfort strapp and red grolsch thingies This would be a MiM instrument with a target street price of around £1000
  4. Your favourite (non-boutique) bass manufacturer has contacted you. Due to your reputation as a bass player other bass players look up to, they want to make a signature bass model for you. This could be based on one or more of your existing basses or something you've always wanted which hasn't until now existed. You would have full control of every aspect of the specification and customisations. It will be distributed to the shops they usually sell in and you would get a royalty for each one sold. In as much detail as you like, what would you tell them to build, and realistically how much would you expect it to cost when it goes on sale?
  5. I have a JMJ which I bought as I had wanted a daphne blue mustang for a long time and its reputation as a great bass - which is well deserved. JMJ's name on the headstock is irrelevant however he did have a lot of input into the spec so its probably a much better bass because of his input. One thing I find a bit silly is signature instruments being issued for players who are no longer with us. Dean's John Entwistle range is the one that comes to mind. I'm not sure whether JE actually ever played a dean so it did seem a but odd. More recently Guild brought out a Bob Marley acoustic guitar based on the guitar Bob strummed at home. The thing is the guitar Bob owned was not actually a Guild but but one of Guild's far Eastern cheap & cheerful brand Maderia which had a less than stellar reputation. As Bob Masrley is not available to demo the guitar they sent one to DJ Khaled for some reason...
  6. Neither I'd rather play a mustang 😛
  7. Why would anyone even think of doing that? The workmanship is almost PCsGC quality in execution.
  8. Cool bass but I wonder how the previous owner managed to get it into that condition
  9. My favourite for heavy basses is the extra long version of the comfort strapp pro bass. I had a pair of Fender branded neotech straps but they were way too short https://thebassgallery.com/collections/straps/products/comfort-strapp-pro-bass
  10. Simon Gallup has returned to The Cure following his departure in August https://www.guitarworld.com/news/simon-gallup-rejoins-the-cure
  11. Info about it here: https://blackguitars.com/burns-weill-foote.html
  12. I use the tc electronic polytune clip on my ns-design cr5m - no problems even on the low B
  13. It looks like nickel that has tarnished. I had some that looked like this. I got them nice & shiney by using Peek metal polish and a soft cloth.
  14. I second this suggestion. I have a squier bullet mustang like this in funky yellow. The black & metallic blue ones are about £120 new and the FSR versions in more interesting colours are a few quid more. It doesn't have a trem so is easier to keep in tune than something like a strat and the stock humbuckers sound surpringly good. The scale length is slightly shorter than a strat or tele and the frets were impeccibly finished on mine.
  15. 1. Post ridiculous item on ebay 2. People post links to the ridiculous item on their favourite forum (eg basschat) 3. People on the forums view the listing for the ridiculous item 4. After having a chuckle at the ridiculous item, people feel the urge to click the 'other items from this seller' link to see if there are other ridiculous items listed 5. People view his non-ridiculous items 6. ???????? 7. profit
  16. On a wooden neck, you'd use a reamer to increase the size of the hole - never a drill
  17. Why would anyone ever decide to make such a thing?
  18. I padded out the holes with a bit of masking tape to get a snug fit with the gotoh bushings. I think the stock Wilkinson bushings might be a bit taller which could make the capstan look shorter.
  19. I'd have no hesitation in going for the squier mini P for a litte one - in fact I quite fancy one for myself so I can look like a giant. They don't seem to come up second hand so they probably hold their price well.
  20. The GB640R is a reverse wind version of the GB640 set
  21. I've owned my maple-necked 81 precision from new and still have to do a bi-annual trussrod tweak to keep it usable.
  22. I've always known them as pleckies. I used them exclusively from 1978 to about 2000 and then went 100% fingers. During the lockdown I got some 1.5mm dunlop prime tone small triangles - initially for guitar but I have started to use them on bass when it suits the song. They are smaller than the usual dunlop triangles and they sit in the fingers perfectly *not actual size
