  1. A 1977 Fender won't have an original nitro paintjob. Check inside the neck pocket for any clues that indicate whether it has been refinished already. If you can determine that the current finish is not original, stripping it off and redoing it won't lose any value. I'd probably leave the bridge alone, but I have had success improving old hardware with peek metal polish and elbow grease. The chip in the pickguard is very common with musicmasters - I have a couple of 1972 musicmasters and the original pickguards both have cracks in this area. You can get a replacement pickguard made fairly inexpensively. earlpilanz on ebay should be able to sort you out if you send him the original guard or a tracing. You can always put the original one back on later so it won't affect the resale value. I would replace the non-original screws with Fender vintage-style ones. You may need to wedge a bit of wooden cocktail stick in the holes to get the new screws to bite if the existing screws were oversized. I don't know about filling the checking with superglue. It might work; maybe try a small area on the back first.

  3. I think one of the pieces of this £4 meccano set should do the same job: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5651801
  4. One of these fixed with a bit of double-sided tape should do it: https://www.htsspares.com/catalogue/plant/access-platform-parts/access-platform-electrical-parts/show/toggle-switch-guard

  6. Shipbuilding - Robert Wyatt
  7. aged pearl would be my first choice, but the tort looks good to me
  8. Heaven knows I'm miserable now - the Smiths
  9. I've just looked up "shou sugi ban" and it seems to be a fancy way of saying that the surface has been charred with a blowtorch. You wouldn't want to be wearing a white shirt when playing it.
  10. The use of B&Q woodscrews to secure the bridge is a nice touch.
  11. They look really good. Are they fixed on with velcro? What was the cost of each?
  12. You'll want something like a ritter thunderbird gigbag for that eg: https://www.thomann.de/gb/ritter_rgs7_t_bird_bass_mgb.htm
  13. in the wee wee hours - chuck berry
  14. 25 O'clock – Dukes of Stratosphear
  15. Interesting video. Duck was always a big influence and inspiration for me. Its interesting that the Lakland is kept shut away unplayed & unpolished as it has his DNA on it. Is the US government planning to clone Duck Dunn after seeing my If you could bring back one famous musician from the dead... thread?
  16. The BT10 will have a smaller capstan diameter than standard tuners. I think the BT7 might be a better fit, but will most likely require new holes for the retaining screws.
  17. to be fair, the chair does look comfy
  18. Although I have had favourite bass string sets ever since I started playing flats around 2000, I have never had a 'favourite' guitar string until recently. After trying various brands and gauges recently I have standardised on Fender 'super 250' .009–.042 on my (electric) guitars. This was based on feel as much as the sound. The super 250's come in a handy pack of three sets for £10.80 from amazon. The vintera mustang I bought recently has unknown strings on it which I think are 10s, so I'm looking forward to hearing how it will sound when I put on a set of the fender 9s. It is interesting that to my ears the 9s sounded best in the video with the 10s and the 11s having a slightly more 'muffled' quality. I have tried 8s previously but for me the high E breaks far too often.
  19. These look pretty good on the website. I'm looking forward to hearing how it turns out for you.
  20. The processing has almost made it sound like it’s played on a wishbass
  21. Post a pic of the underside of the pickups—that might help identification
  22. Daft idea, but its just a bit of fun. If I had one I'd want a swappable headstock though as the standard one looks a bit pedestrian with the flying vee body. But I'd still play my thunderbirds in any gig situation I find myself in.
