  1. I'm in a six piece band with a husband/wife and they're both great (as are the other members) — Must be an exception to the norm.
  2. I used two squirts of oil on a piece of kitchen towel and most of that was wiped off. I could see that some was absorbed into the wood fibres as the appearance changed — it looked darker and less dull. The fret sprout before applying the oil was only just noticable as I ran my finger along the edge. Human fingers can feel objects as small as 13 nanometers. I doubt there would have been a change in dimensions that would be measurable.
  3. I received some new pleckies in the post today. These are Jim dunlop prime tone small triangle 1.5mm. A standard dunlop tortex orange triangle is also shown for size comparison. I really like these. The smaller size is really comfortable to hold and the sculpted edge and hardness of the material makes it pretty much effortless to play fast with accuracy.
  4. A little goes a long way. I was surprised that just two squirts of Dunlop 65 on a piece of kitchen towel wiped on and wiped off the fingerboard cured the fret sprout on my JMJ in addition to giving the rosewood a rich dark lustre.
  5. I had a similar experience with my JMJ mustang in the last week. I have been able to feel the sharp fret edges for the last few months but after applying Dunlop 65 fingerboard oil a few days ago the fret sprout completly went away.
  6. When tuning it it'll look like you are fondling/tickling its balls
  7. There's a big difference between facts and opinion. Stating something is a fact (and using capitals for emphasis) does not make it so.
  8. You're posting in the wrong thread. This is the one for fingerboard oil
  9. What is your experience of fingerboard oil?
  10. No its mostly mineral oil. It is certainly not garbage.
  11. I wouldn't recommend using snake oil - Dunlop 65 Lemon oil works much better
  12. I've never been big on conspiracy theories, but 'big fingerboard oil' conspiring to ruin peoples' guitars is now my new favourite — and its less dangerous than the one about a certain election being stolen. One thing I have noticed since oiling the fingerboard of my JMJ mustang the other day is that apart from the rosewood looking nicer, the minor 'fret-sprout' I could feel over the last few months seems to have gone away.
  13. I love Bobby's playing. He proves that you can get funky using a pick. The EMG Geezer Butler pickup was designed to emulate the tone of Bobby's 1960 Precision, so it could be considered the Bobby Vega signature pickup.
  14. I'll plug into whatever is provided - I can get my sound from any rig as long as I don't forget to bring my fingers.
  15. I didn't know Ibanez made one of these. It reminds me of the Casio MG-500 midi guitar. I have the strat-shaped version, the MG-510 hibernating in my loft
  16. Surely the video was tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously? That said, Vulf are better skilled as musicians than comedians.
  17. Dr Feelgood - Down at the Doctors, where Lee says 'eight bars of piano' where no piano was overdubbed but the instruction stayed in.
  18. Probably a cheapie with a fake gibson logo headstock veneer. The headstock shape is unlike any gibson I've seen - I'd expect the sides to be curved, and although the top end can't be seen I doubt it has the classic gibson 'open-book' shape.
  19. Guess what I've just done to my JMJ mustang? I use Dunlop 65 but other brands specifically for instruments are available. Never use pure lemon oil, or anything labeled 'lemon oil' which is intended to be used on furniture. Two squirts on a piece of kitchen towel is enough for the whole fingerboard - and practially all of that is then wiped off. Once a year is more than enough - I probably do this to each of my basses/guitars/ukes less than once in every five years.
  20. Eat too much and you'll get all sorts of health problems but that's not a reason to stop eating altogether.
  21. There's nothing wrong with oiling an unlacquered rosewood (or pau ferro etc) board. Only a fool would attempt to oil the hard finish on a maple board.
  22. The neck can shift due to differences in the climate - eg temperature & humidity. This is most likely what has happened and should be nothing to worry about. It can usually be fixed with a tweak of the truss rod. There's a lot of info and videos around about how to do this, and its fairly easy once you've done it a few times.
