  1. My flatwounds — The more played in they are, the better they get. I can't see myself ever needing/wanting to change my Ashdown ABM600 evo iv for another amp.
  2. If only there was a way to design an eight string with a way to separate the signals from the normal and the octave strings like a more advanced version of rick-o-sound to go to two separate amps (or mixer channels for recording)
  3. Famous Blue Raincoat — Leonard Cohen
  4. The Murder Of Love — Propaganda
  5. My rig is set up in the rehearsal studio, so I had forgotten that the FS-4 has a captive cable. It sounds to me likely that the FS-4 has a fault. It is probably worth opening up the pedal unit and its jack plug to see whether any wire(s) look like they have become disconnected. The issue may be something Ashdown have encountered previously so it might be worth raising an enquiry with them: https://ashdownmusic.com/pages/contact-us

  7. I'm going to switch it back to the white pickguard for the classic ric look. I noticed on a YT video of someone shielding their ric that their white pickguard was not totally opaque, so after applying copper tape to the back of the pickguard, there was an only just noticable copper tinge to the pickguard when it was fitted. I wasn't sure whether this was a trick of the light or I was imagining it so I experimented with my own white pickguard and I was able to conform that the pickguard did show a copper tinge when the shielding is applied to the back. To prevent the copper showing through it would be necessary to have an opaque layer between the pickguard and the copper tape. I have a roll of self-adhesive black vinyl which I guessed would work well for this as my 4003is Jetglo so I used a layer of this followed by a layer of copper tape. The black vinyI went to the edge of the pickguard, but the copper tape did not to ensure it isn't visible when looking at the edge of the pickguard.

  9. Five days in and I just went on ebay and snagged a four pole pickup for one of my musicmaster basses. I suppose this means I have failed the assignment.

  16. It sounds like you are using the same amp & footswitch I have. Did this work previously, or has it never worked for you? Is it the FS-4 footswitch unit you are using with the four switches marked valve, EQ, Compression, & sub Octave? Are you using a high quality shielded TS cable to connect the footswitch to the amp (the leftmost socket on the back of the amp)? The footswitch is supplied with a 2.5m shielded TS cable - if you are using that one, check it isn't faulty. Try other cables
  17. I failed dismally last year having purchased several guitars, basses, pedals and other bits & bobs. Some highlights were: A Rickenbacker 4003 A Telecaster custom A Harley Benton Les Paul jnr doublecut A PFender layer Mustang bass An epiphone Thunderbird vintage pro A Yamaha Reface YC Organ Even with the best will in the world, I'm sure I will be tempted by a shiny object before too long, in fact I'm already thinking about whether I should get an HX Stomp.
  18. Smash 'n' Crab — AC/DC
  19. Bits and Pieces — Dave Clarke Five
  20. Hubble Bubble (Toil & Trouble) — Manfred Mann
  21. Could be the output socket. The ones on squiers are never the best, and I have had them fail with the signal intermittently cutting out. Now I always solder in a switchcraft or pure tone before that happens.
  22. Nancy Boy — Placebo
  23. No I'm afraid I didn't take any pics apart from the back of the pickguard, which is probably the most important bit to do. Both pickup cavities were straightforward, but shielding the control cavity was a bit fiddly as I kept the pots etc in place due to not wanting to remove the output sockets. I was able to shield most of that cavity but didn't go right up to the socket area. I ensured that the strips of copper tape slightly overlapped and each shielded area was grounded by being in contact with something already grounded.
