  2. Nice thread resurrection I wonder whether its worth suggesting one of these as the original manufacturer has no interest in reissuing them
  3. I can't use clippers as they never cut properly for me. I use the scissors on my swiss army knife. Mine is the cybertool but there are smaller ones with the same scissors.
  4. Or you could bring a set of pliers to the gig so you can play the first set fretted and the second fretless
  5. I like basses basses that evoke the 60s USA. My current favourites are: Daphne blue JMJ mustang Arctic White Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro Flame Maple Guild Starfire II with biSonics
  6. I can imagine a courier refusing a pickup if insufficent packing has been used, or using it as an excuse to refuse a claim after loss or damage, but I wouldn't expect it to be accepted and then have a fine levied - thats a new one on me.
  7. The first question I would ask is "why does the neck pocket depth need to be deepened?" Is because the action is too high and the bridge saddles don't go low enough? If so you don't need to got to the trouble of incresing the depth of the neck pocket, you only need to add a simple shim to alter the angle the neck sits in the pocket, which will give you the required adjustment at the bridge.
  8. Woohoo! The replacement bass is here and its all looking good. I've set it up with the flatwounds I previously had on the other one & there's no string buzz.
  9. Me too My 90s blueburst has an adjustable truss rod - unlike the dead-on which adjusts at the headstock you have to remove (or partially remove) the neck to get at the adjustment nut which is at the body end of the neck like a 60s Fender. The original 50s ones didn't have a truss rod so the dead-on isn't quite dead-on
  10. Its currently out for delivery and I'm trying hard not to go to the window every time I hear a vehicle approaching.
  11. This is the current state of play for the replacement bass. I will be genuinely surprised if it is delivered tomorrow.
  12. Before spending any cash I would check that when the band say they prefer the sound of a precision, they don't actually mean that that they like the sound and image of a Fender precison and nothing else will do.
  13. The new one has been dispatched with an estimated delivery date of this Friday - here we go again! The old one has arrived back in Germany so hopefully they'll get it back tomorrow or Friday.
  14. Good work! I recognise that lovely sunburst thunderbird vintage pro.
  15. I had a new guild bass a couple of weeks ago (https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/438065-nbd-tomorrow-hopefully-the-saga-continues/) but it had to go back as there was an issue with the neck. I should be receiving a replacement within a week or so, so hopefully the new one won't have any issues. I'll post some pics when it comes as it is a bit of a looker.
  16. Well this is fun. There was a fair amount of fret buzz on the D & G strings which I wasn't initially too worried about as it seemed like a simple setup should be able to cure it. So over the weekend I tweaked the truss rod to add some relief, and I raised the string height at the bridge but the buzz didn't go away and the only way to minimise it was by setting the bridge so high that it was no fun to play I've now been sent a return label so the bass is going back and a second one has been ordered at the shop which will be sent on to me; hopefully after they've checked it. I have to take it to a post office so I hope I can find one with a parking space outside as the box the bass came in is approximately the size of a box containing a semi-acoustic bass in a hard case.
  17. Now you mention it I can see the resemblance
  18. I used TI flats on my electro acoustic - they were a lot quieter than a bronze set but I prefered the feel and the tone.
  19. This couldn't more obvious a scam if it had a big red banner on every page saying "I want to steal your money". Apart from the embarrasingly low asking prices for what should be expensive instruments there is no information about where the business is located, and the info on the "about us" and other pages on the site are total bs. A big red flag is that the only way to pay enables them to collect creditcard details directly rather than giving the option to use PayPal, google pay or other similar services. My guess is that the scam is not that they will take £86 without supplying a Gibson Les Paul, but will instead sell the credit card details collected to several other criminals on the dark web who will use them for all sorts of mischief. A little digging reveals that the domain appears to have been previously used for hosting films & TV programs for people who don't like paying for their content - perhaps the copyright holders caught up with them or the ad revenue dried up.
  20. It shouldn't be a boat anchor - my longhorn weighs next to nothing I would imagine anyone looking to drop this amount of money on two basses spliced together with one defretted would be interested in know whether the work was done by a skilled luthier with a reputation or on the owners kitchen table with a butter knife, a hammer and a roll of duct tape.
  21. Something like this might work for a couple of quid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-DC-Buck-Step-Down-Converter-9V-12V-24V-to-5V-3A-CAR-USB-Charger-Module/283982262965?hash=item421ea972b5:g:auwAAOSwTjpfOpQh
  22. Some 'interesting' design decisions have been made. The close up of where the fingerboard meets the body looks rather scrappy. I wonder whether it has a truss rod
