  1. Its worth the hassle - it consists of great sounding Ampeg SVT & B15 fliptop amps with associated cabs, mics & fx running in your DAW or standalone for practice.
  2. I'm tracking my parcel - it started in Nottuln yesterday, passed through Dusseldorf overnight, and arrived at Stanford Le Hope this afternoon so it is on track to be delivered to me tomorrow. I will post some details about my new acquisition once it has arrived.
  3. Just seen this offer at https://audioplugin.deals/amplitube-svx-by-ik-multimedia-free-download/ I already own SVX (& SVX 2) but for anyone that doesn't this looks to be a bit of a no-brainer
  4. The corrosion looked unnatural and possible faked to me at first, however that is probably down to being photographed in very bright sunlight making them look more orange than they probably are. Whats the known history of this set? Did you remove them from a vintage Fender or buy them as a vintage set?
  5. I like the first guitarist, I also like the second guitarist, But which one's better? There's only one way to find out... FIIIIIGHT!
  6. I doubt a string retainer would make much difference - the string isn't popping out of the nut. Perhaps the strings are a lighter set so are at a lower tension?
  7. The modern ones I have seen have more threadwinds on the worm gear than these and would have a modern cross-headed bolt. The worm gear suggests that these *could* be genuine pre-CBS ones made by Kluson and the slot headed bolts suggest that they could be an early set as most pre-CBS ones do have cross-headed bolts.
  8. The JMJ mustang is string-thru and comes with Fender Flats, and as Fender don't do short scale flats, a fair amount of the wound part of the E & A strings end up going around the tuner capstan, so that's two no-nos that have been proven wrong (at least anecdotally).
  9. That bass must have done something very evil in a previous life to be deserving of this punishment.
  10. My most expensive bass, an NS-Design CR5M upright was flawless when I bought it and is still perfect 14 years on. My second most expensive bass, a Fender JMJ mustang cost nearly a grand and there are chips & scrapes all over the body. It was bought brand new, but to a casual observer it looks like it could be over 40 years old - it almost looks like the damage was done deliberately 😠
  11. Its is described as the solution for Weak tone bad vibrations sustain loss imprecise adjustments I don't get any of these problems with a £30 badass-style Fender high mass bridge and one of those doesn't look a daft DIY project. If it actually did improve the tone or sustain I would expect to see an A/B comparison video on the bridge's website
  12. Peek will work perfectly for this. I would remove the tuners to clean them properly though - taking them off and putting them back on again is not a hard job and its very unlikely to go wrong unless you drop something on the floor and it rolls under the sofa and/or the cat eats it.
  13. I have a sunburst thunderbird vintage pro and a white one. They are fantastic basses well worth the money. They are big but I swap from my mustangs to my thunderbirds with no problem.
  14. I don't eat meat, so jelly babies won't work for me. 🙁 the James Taylor video looks useful, particularly cleaning the nail with acetone and roughening it before adding anything. My mail uke is a tenor tuned DGBE with baritone strings so playing with nails brightens the tone & helps getting some volume.
  15. Does anyone here have any experience of taking biotin suppliments or applying any kind of (clear) nail varnish/topcoat to strengthen their nails for fingerpicking guitar/ukulele? I'm playing my acoustic tenor guitar quite a lot and I want to improve my right hand technique and tone so I'm going to grow my nails on my right hand. Last time I grew them out for playing ukulele they split/cracked after just a few days so I think I will need to strengthen them this time. Any advice on the best way to make the nails less prone to cracking/spliting?
  16. I think its a dummy bass with a hatch at the back; the second son hides in it whenever there's a knock at the door.
  17. I agree that the body is likely stripped rather than originally natural; I'd expect a natural finish to be over an ash body, but this looks like alder.
  18. I can't understand what is so wrong with using an electric tuner. Are we supposed to use a tuning fork?
  19. b/w/b always just looks right on natural ash. Black pearl never looks good to me.
  20. Depending on the bass I'd take the opportunity to move the 'E' tuner to replace the broken and one and fit a hipshot GB7 bass extender If the bass doesn't deserve a hipshot, you could try posting in the wanted section of this site - someone is bound to have a spare tuner in their bits box that will fit.
  21. Check out Betty Davis, she was briefly married to Miles Davis and made a few extremely funky albums in the 70s.
  22. The new Residents album: Metal Meat & Bone, the songs of dyin' dog
