1. I have not tried this, so I offer no guarantees, but if the speaker is going to be replaced or reconed anyway I would probably try holding the affected area of the speaker over a steaming kettle and apply pressure to the front & back of the cone to flatten out the creases, taking care of course not to get steam into the central part of the speaker.
2. A bit of steam might get those creases out.
3. Clippers are something used to give you a haircut. Athough there is overlap between these three types of pedal, an overdrive will typically sound quite different from a fuzz and if an all-encompassing tern is needed I'd probably just use the term 'distortion'.
4. Took a punt on one of these from amazon for eight quid (with next day delivery on prime) =>USB Voltage Step Up Converter Cable, 5V to DC 9V Power Cable, Work for Guitar Effects Pedal,BOSS,Dunlop,Behringer, MXR, Electro Harmonix, TC Electronic, Zoom Pedals Like most people I know I have a rechargable USB power powerpack thingy which I bought so I can give my iPhone a boost if looks like its going to run out of juice when I'm out & about. These only supply 5v so they're not suitable for powering pedals, but this converter steps the voltage up to 9v. I have just tried it with my guitar pedalboard consising of a Boss SY-1 synthesizer, a Behringer SF-300 Super Fuzz, a Moskey Silver horse Klon clone and a Zoom MG-50G multistomp multifx. It performs exactly as I hoped it would, and the extra layer of noise that resulted from using a mains PSU was absent. I'm not sure how long I will be able to power the pedalboard using this with my 6700mAh powerpack, but it was still on four LEDs after a longish jam. Looks like the punt has paid off - for £8 its a no-brainer.
5. It might be the same bass rebadged rather than a shameless copy - just as they rebadge some (joyo?) pedals as HB. Not something I'd have on my xmas list.
6. £200 is a very good price for one in good condition. It's lucky I didn't see it as I've run out of hiding paces for new gear.
7. The SY-1 was delivered this afternoon. Its in mint condition well packed and in the original box, but no manual or boss sticker. I downloaded the one page pdf manual and put it on my iPad, but I've found that the controls are pretty much self explanatory. I've been wanting to play synth from guitar since I bought a Casio MG-510 back in the late 80s - which reminds me I must dig it out of the loft and list it on reverb. The casio has noticable latency which made it difficult to play with any groove or feeling I ended up using it mainly to program lines into the computer in step time. Having subsequently played and owned various guitar / bass synth pedals over the years including an akai deep impact and EHX B9, I've never been tempted to keep one longer than a few weeks. The SY-1 was cheap enough to take a punt on with a view to possibly selling it on but I think it might be a keeper. Playing a squier bullet mustang guitar and jaguar short scale bass through it was a bit of a revelation. The way it responds to my playing is amazing even without having to modify my sloppy playing technique. Layering a convincing organ sound over clean guitar was so simple to achieve. The fx loop looks like a useful feature so I'll try that with a fuzz & a klon clone in the loop and then feed the pedal output into a zoom MS50G for a bit of reverb etc to see how that sounds when I've found enough cables.
8. some people don’t know when they have a good thing. In unmolested condition this would have been worth way more (excuse the pun) than a hundred quid.
9. If its up to Yoko they'd probably only be allowed to call themselves the Beatles if they include her in John's place doing her rendition of a howler monkey with sudden trauma to the nuts.
10. Townshend & Daltrey don't have any problem in billing themselves as the Who, so I don't see why not.
11. Collection on London only which would have been okay for me as I was almost tempted and would probably have snapped it up if it was still silver sparkle, but the pics are low res and I can't tell whether there's a crack or two showing on the back of the headstock. If its just been oversprayed with red car paint from a rattle can, it might come off easily with acetone and reveal the original silver sparkle finish underneath assuming it wasn't stripped first. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194962269630
12. Any bass that looks like it was designed later than about 1967 has a harder time getting my attention. I'm not keen on active electronics either, or anything with more than four strings.
13. I used to have an old EHX bass balls back in the 80s and have no recollection of what happened to it. I bought a bass sweeper for nostalgia's sake but it has taken up permanent residence on my board. I can get all the lovely chewy noises I got out of the bassballs, but without having to open it up to fiddle with trimpots.
14. Found an SY-1 at such a good price it would have been rude not to snap it up, so it is due to arrive on my doorstep tomorrow. I'm not sure how it'll get any use in the band I'm in as we do mostly 60s covers, so it could end up on my guitar pedalboard rather than my bass board. Failing that I'll get to play with it for a few weeks before letting it go to a new owner without making a loss. I didn't really get on with a EHX B9 organ machine when I owned one briefly, so I'm hoping the organs on the sy-1 will tickle my pickle. Do any SY-1 owners here have any tips? Does it work better certain inputs - such as a tele bridge pickup rather than a humbucker neck pickup on guitar? Or the Jazz pickup of a PJ bass for example? Has anyone flipped the baseplate to put velcro on without affecting the rubber foot?
15. How would you describe your favourite tone from one of your basses, but without using any words related to audio? My JMJ mustang going through a Roland microcube RX using the fliptop emulation, is like a big thick slice of the stickiest, gooiest chocolate fudge cake.
16. Bolting on a replacement body will be an improvement over the plywood original even if it hadn't been chopped.
17.
'Neck will be removed and packaged with body for posting.'
'cause you wouldn't want to risk anything happening to it
18. When fender bought Tacoma they really should have continued making these.
19. I tried that when I had sore fingertips. I drank a couple of pints of the stuff. I didn't notice any change in my fingers but I had blurred vision for a week.
20. Just the thing for playing this song
21. Didn't this bass feature on the cover of Gentle Giant's 1971 album acquiring the taste? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquiring_the_Taste#/media/File:Acquiring_the_Taste_front_cover.jpg
22. Back in 1982 when I was saving up for my first Fender bass I dismissed mustangs as 'not a proper fender' and was only interested in getting a precision. It wasn't until about 25 years later that I realised I much prefer mustangs.
