1. I manage with safari on the iPhone with no real problems - a bit of pinching & zooming here & there to get around, but nothing that gets me frustrated.
2. Some good info here: http://www.tunemybass.com/bass_string_change/
3. Surely you'd only be able to toast very small slices of bread & the strings would get in the way when they pop up?
4.
Bridge picture required!
Also headstock pic side-on taken from treble side would be useful. I still suspect it may be exiting the stringpost too high up, particularly after seeing the loose string ends flapping about like a hippy's guitar strings. newbass1000 - where are you located? From your handle it sounds like you're a newbie. I bet a nearby BC regular would be happy to look over your bass & show you how to do a quick setup for a pint or two of ale.
5. I put a kent armstrong enclosed cool rails humbucker in mine It sounds punchy almost like a mustang or precision, but looks totally stock. If I had another musicmaster to upgrade I'd not hesitate to get another of these. My daughter's musicmaster has an exposed hot rails which is still punchy but more toppy in sound and although a perfect fit, doesn't look right to me - but she likes it.
6. How is the string stacked on the tuner? Do the windings go down, so the string exits the string post close to the wood? If not take the string off and wind it back on so the windings stack in that way. If you're not sure post a pic.
7.
No love for the Schroeder 1212L? 'tis a lovely little beasty.
I like mine so much that I don't think I'll ever replace it. With my LMII its pretty much my ideal rig.
8. Most of mine are high up on wall hangers displayed on wall hangers - three precisions & a jazz on one wall and my danelectro longhorn & a uke are hanging over my desk. I have a few guitars & basses on a multi-guitar stand & my gigging ones are in gigbags next to the desk - NS upright, mustang, thunderbird pro-V & ashbory. All of my hardcases & the rest of the gigbags are in the loft.
9. I don't like gold hardware. I have a few basses with black hardware which I can live with, but you can't beat a nice shiny bit of chrome or the cool patina that builds up on nickel-plated.
10. This woman might want one or two
11. I have a bassmax on my stentor 1950. I couldn't get a sound I liked with spirocores, but the cheapo weedwackers sound brilliant with it
12. Apart from the neck possibly being too narrow to play it comfortably - if the saddle spacing of the bridge can accomodate the neck width, there may not be enough adjustment in the truss rod to counteract the additional pull of another two strings.
13.
I get the distinct impression using it on basses is an afterthought (it's a wiring circuit, why not?), but this will hopefully pay dividends for them in the guitar market where the sonic differences may be more meaningful.
+1 I can see this being popular with guitarists who might hear the subtle differences in sounds (as long as they don't then drench them in overdrive.)
14.
If the wadding has come loose it could be resting on the cone which could cause the sound you hear.
I agree with Chris - I had this problem on one of the cabs I owned while ago. Easy to fix.
15. obsessing over minute tonal variations which will be lost in the mix? No ta! I'd rather stick to a single split coil pickup and hold down the low end. But that's just me.
16. I think the £15k out of stock cables are a ploy to make the +£100 ones look cheap. They don't expect to actually sell any.
17. Also there's Maclolm Healey in Sutton: http://www.healeyviolins.co.uk/ He makes double Basses onsite, so knows what he's doing.
18. I bet they're call him 'spinning John' in rock n roll heaven today
19.
Why oh why do Squier not bring out a VM Shortscale of some description?!!!! Or even just a higher quality shorty than the little Bronco... I'd be on it like an aggressive moss! Eude
+ 1 Something like the vista series musicmasters, but with a thin finish would be good, but a squier mustang bass in Daphne blue at a similar price to the jags in this thread would be even better
20. My Coloured circle thing was Highs all around Enthusiasm 97% Perception 99% Emotional 99% Social 86% Curiosity 99%
21. Anyone who shares a gig with the residents is OK in my book.
22. I'd first try loosening the truss rod to see whether that fixs it. If it can't be moved or makes no difference I'd then take it the nearest good bass luthier - in my case that would be Martin or John at the Gallery but Jon Shuker would be nearer for you.
23. I use beyer DT-150. They are very comfy for a long session unlike a lot of cheapo 'phones I have used.
24.
if I was you I'd consider buying a Behringer BDDI box for £30 or so, because this'll give you a ballpark of what the Sansamp sounds like.
I have a BDI21, and also the 'acoustic' version the ADI21. I tend to use the brown ADI21 much more as it is very subtle and is particularly good for sweetening the sound of my tanglewood acoustic bass & NS CR5M electric upright before going into my LMII. This is the second ADI21 I have owned. I had to chuck the first one in with the Dean Pace bass I sold as it made it sound so much better.
