The little wheel thing used on musicman & Peavey basses is a great improvement.

I'm my ns-design CR5M, the method of adjusting the magnetic pickup height is just weird. Gibson 3 point bridge as used on the thunderbird - remove or break a string & lose the saddle Ashbory bass lined fingerboard - to play in tune fingers have to be way behind the fretline - I'm sure a lot of people dismiss it as being impossible to play in tune as they try play on the line Gibson headstock joints where they snap off at the slightest knock

I don't - I have a jazz and a few precisons, but prefer to play my mustang. It has a skinny neck like a jazz, but shorter, & has a nice chunky precision tone & doesn't have too many knobs to twiddle & confuse me.

I got an H4 from band funds before the H2 & H1 came out. Got good results from it, but its a bit plasticy and when recording a gig on batteries I have to remember to put a fresh set in between sets. I think the main benefit of the H2 is that it can record 360 degrees - ie one set of mics pointing at the band and another set picking the audience (or tumbleweed) behind, or for an acoustic "living room" rehearsal with everyone on a circle it might stand a better chance of picking everyone up clearly in 4 channels rather than just 2. As other band members use the H4, I'm thinking of buying one for myself. I really like the simplicity & size (& price) of the H1, but the 4 channel recording of the H2 is a massive bonus. Then again the Q3 looks temping at around the same price of the H2 - again only two channel but with video in additon to the high quality audio recording. Also the H1 uses Micro SDHC cards, the H2 & H4 use full size SDHC

I've read good things about them on TB, but they're quite a bit more costly than the el-cheapos & I'm skint at the moment. I'll see how I get on with the cheapies & may upgrade to a set of Lamberts if I get more into playing the DB.

Even more so than even basses I think. I was briefly in a band in the 80s with someone whose dad had a fiesta red (or salmon pink as he described it) 1957 strat in very good condition. He said he bought from Buddy Holiday at the end of Buddy's UK tour. Not sure how true the story was - it looked like a genuine '57 - not that I had ever seen one before & whatever it was worth when I saw it would probably be a tiny amount compared to its value today. If he had documentation to prove the Buddy Holly provenance (not sure if he did) I expect it could be something even Sir Paul would get his wallet out for.

It would be easy to make. If I needed one I would probably do it by making a little adaptor box with one in & two out speakon sockets wired for series, then carry four speakon to speakon cables. Then in the event of a connection failing there's a handy spare.

You can get an unfinished or sunburst alder body comparable to a japanese Fender (ie probably made on the same production line) from Brandoni in Wembley - if they still have them. A '78 will not relic in a cool way like 60s one, it would be more normal for it to have just picked up dents & scratchs rather than bare patches & mojo.

I've just noticed in the specs that the Epiphone T-Bird Pro V has a dual action truss rod. All of my basses have 'normal' truss rods & I recall that on the Squier musicmaster I used to own, It had quite a chunky neck compared to my mustang & TI Jazz flats didn't had enough tension to pull any relief into the neck, so I had to use heavier LaBella strings instead. I'm guessing that if that bass had a dual action truss rod, low tension strings would have been OK? Any other differences with a dual action truss rod? Is there anything different I would need to keep in mind when doing a setup on a bass with one? I've sold a couple of basses this week, so it looks like a T-Bird Pro-V with natural oil finish might be coming my way soon if I can work out a way of making the missus think that its her idea that I order one.
