As per wind up torch or radio??
That would be good for an active 6 string guitar to get its power from something connected to the tremolo arm. However it would probably only work for guitarists who like to play the type of solos where they have to pull funny faces.
2. Definitely a hohner jack. The hardware looks identical to the bits on my 1986 hohner b2a.
3. Reverse tuners are the old-style ones you see on 50s & 50s reissue basses. To tune get into they go backwards compared to normal tuners. You won't want one of those. Without a pic of the back of the headstock, your best bet is to eyeball it and pick the one that most resembles your current tuner. I'd guess that you'd need either a GT5, BT7 or BT10.
4. Just ordered a set of Slap Happy Weedwackers for my cheapo Stentor DB via eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140471271501 Not sure of what to expect, but they seem to get good reviews and as long as I don't get ripped off with customs charges they've cost me £17.14 GBP inc delivery. I'll report back when I get them & have had a play on 'em.
5. Wasn't there one hanging up in the Bass Centre (during the Brune Street years) for a while?
6. Longer scale length and more pointless (IMHO)
7.
isnt it through neck?
Yes it is, I realise the strap button won't be able to go in the same place, but I expect there'll be an appropriate place to put it. I quite like the position of the button I added to my acoustic bass. Not expecting it to be much like my white one - I normally prefer a bolt on neck as most of my basses have needed a shim to set up to my taste. One of the neck-thrus I have has the saddles right down on the baseplate, but I'd probably be willing to take a punt on this if I sell a couple of my basses.
8.
apologies to the OP - hows your gas? lol
Worse now - ta! The neck dive shouldn't a problem for me - Its easy enough to move the strap button like I did on my alpine white epibird which made it balance perfectly. I like the thunderbird shape and I like a non-glossy finish on a neck, so it's going to be hard to resist. Thomann.de have a B-stock one for under £300. Please someone buy it before I do!
9.
http://www.zampower.com/
mmm interesting. Expensive though; I might have a go at building something similar.
10. Is it the actual HDD inside the housing that's gone? If so it might be worth chucking in a new one, possibly of larger capacity. I had some externals die over the years and it was always maxtor drives inside that had failed which I replaced with better drives which are still in daily use.
11. I can't see a lot of detail on the pics as I'm looking via my phone. It looks like a thru-neck, so if the truss rod is set correctly & the bridge saddles are as low as they'll go, The option of getting more vertical travel in the saddles is not possible like it would be on a bolt-on by shimming the neck. Has it been looked at by a qualified luthier or just someone in a shop who just knows how to do a very basic setup?
12. I'd love one, but I'm skint & my back hurts just looking at it.
13. Maybe he posted it when listings were free last weekend, isn't fussed whether it sells or not so has priced it at what its worth to him to keep it?
14.
Played the 4 string and it was VERY nice. Comfortable, fast neck, solid construction and great hardware. Cant comment on the 5 but I assume its up to the same standard. Tension is not going to be a problem thats for sure and I reckon the pups will have enough grunt to kick out a tight low B.
Cheers Mog. You're not helping me get rid of my GAS
15. The original pearloid pickguard on my 1971 musicmaster bass has noticably shrunk - the screws are all at angles, but its still fits. As it has been attached to the body for nearly 40 years it has not noticeably warped and probably would have shrunk more had it been unattached. A few years ago I bought a NOS Fender pearloid P Bass pickguard which was a bit warped looking in the packaging, but when screwed down was still a perfect fit. I think if you're keeping anything like that unattached to a bass, it might be worth screwing it to a square of mdf/hardboard/ply - whatever you have around to prevent it from warping & shrinking
16. I'm strangely drawn to the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V (5 String) in the natural oil finish. Anyone tried one or own one? If so what's it like - including the feel of the oil finish? I'm assuming it would fit my Ritter thunderbird gigbag - any reason why it might not?
17. How about getting a cheap Pbass & chucking on a brandoni fretless precision neck - or do something like I did & build a bass around a brandoni neck & body?
18.
Ah, you prefer a fifth then? Perhaps a bit OT, but if you can't put a pint or whatever atop your rig without it doing St. Vitus dance it indicates insufficient bracing of the cab. Aside from the issues of where to put your drink any energy expended in vibrating cabinet walls is energy not making it's way to the audience as sound. The two corners most often cut by cab manufacturers are bracing and damping, as you can't see if they're properly in the cab without opening it up. Tilt backs are a good idea in a combo, as combos should be tilted back so you can hear the mids. The reason for a dearth of them is the same reason why most acoustically valid concepts see limited usage, and that would be how it looks.
I recall I couldn't leave anything like a tuner or my watch on top of my old Ashdown rig without it falling off after a while, but having a cab braced up to its eyeballs won't stop people from stumbling into things.
19. As everyone knows, the tone is in the fingers. I'm sure I can notice a subtle difference when I'm not wearing mittens.
20.
Because you can't place a pint atop it.
No one puts a pint on top of my rig no matter how level it is
21. Maybe they don't sell as people don't think they look as cool
22.
good bass, but £259!? I didn't pay that new for mine. It was £200, okay it had a knob missing but then again is it worth paying £60 for a knob?
Is yours the same model or is it the cheapo version with Jazz Bass pickups? If you got a shop-soiled Millennium AC BXP 5 in quilted black violet with 5 individual monorail bridges, double coil Cirrus pickups & active EQ for £200, then I'd say well done, that was a bargain.
23.
That the only Reason for the sale?
Not quite - the missus has got it into her head that having over two dozen basses & guitars around the house is excessive, so I'm half-heartedly trying to sell a few - that one doesn't get used as much as it should be to justify keeping it.
