1. That would be awesome if it was a musical instrument rather than a game controller. Its a bit sad really.
2. There will be one excuse or another why this isn't available to view or buy in person - he wants payment by paypal then he'll disappear with the dosh. I expect
3.
Does anyone agree with me regarding the last CD?
No idea - I wouldn't be seen dead with a copy of the DailyMail or the Mirror for that matter
4.
Tesco, of all people, are doing some very nice classic Wayfarer-copy shades for a fiver.
Bah! - got to be the real thing. Cheapies don't compare as they have the same old plastic lenses instead of B&L glass in them. My current pair is still as good as new & have lasted ten years so far. I know how old they are as I bought them from the sunglass hut in the World Trade Centre when I was sent on an all-expenses paid fools-errand to New York in 2000.
5. Precisions or Precision shaped Laklands?
6. A single coil telecaster bass formerly owned by Jeff Beck & Ron Wood was up for sale in the Gallery a while ago iirc. I wonder if that was the one used?
7. Of course the elephant in the room with the peavey system (http://www.peavey.com/ampkitlink/) is "can you play along with your existing music?" as that is not mentioned in Peavey video , I'd guess the Peavey system is in the same boat as the amplitude one as they don't mention it. Shame As it seems to be limitations of the iPhone platform, maybe I'll email Steve Jobs to make him aware of how including something to allow guitar amp apps to play along with songs with low latency will open up a whole new market for the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad platform. - Perhaps after I report those squirrels to Nick Clegg, that I mentioned in off topic.
8. The twin of the one I sold a year or so ago
9. Sounds like its just like the one I used to have. It was always easy to get a great sound out of it. A bargain at £100 . Good luck with the sale.
10. I saw through your ploy pretending the post was about a bass. You should tell your mum first. You don't want her finding out from anywhere else.
11. Apart from cutting out and ruining the gig, does anyone have any experiences (or secondhand anecdotes even) where this kind of scenario has killed the equipment - or is it likely to be safe? It sounds like it could have got expensive it had blown up Linus27's rig.
12.
...and now have a bass nobody else has - the whale.
or referring to the original cost: Free Willy
13.
My son started music college last year ( he is a guitarist ) in his year there were 4 drummers, 7 guitarist, 3 singers, 3 dj's no bassist and no keyboardist. He got himself a bass and amp, I gave him some lessons, and through the whole year he was very much in demand, playing in 3 bands. When he goes back next year as there are 2 bassist starting he is going to go back and play guitar and also bass as he really enjoys it. He practices in his room, one night guitar, next night bass. So as has been stated in this thread by others, if you enjoy both, play both.
Couldn't put it better than this. Guitarists are ten a penny. Carry on playing both, but if you specialise as a bass player, you're going to probably find you're more in demand, so you'll probably get more experience. You'll also probably be better at playing tastefully & leaving space for others .
14. unless there's a specific issue with your fenders, the only real step up would be to get something custom made taking all your preferences into consideration, or maybe tweaking what you have by customising it.
15. The thing about tort is that some tort looks absolutely brilliant, but others look like puked up tinned tomatoes & scrambled eggs. I'm not so keen on the tort on my 1990 MIJ '62 RI Precision, but I'm wary of getting a replacement that's just as ugly. The tort one I got for my jazz is nice though. Black also looks good on sunburst - my fretless Precision (with unlined ebony fingerboard, TV logo & lollypop tuners) has a black one on at the moment.
16. Aged white pearloid. White pearl is usually too bright for me, but a nice creamy aged pearl looks classy on vintage colours including sunburst
17.
Talc is out. Anything smelling of babies is out.
I have to use talc with my ashborys due to the silicone rubber strings. The oils in scented talc can rot the strings, but unscented talc is perfect. Less perfect is the container it comes in, so I use it in a travel-size johnsons talc container as it allows me to shake out just the amount needed. I'm not recommending the brand I use though, as I emailed them a while ago enquiring about a talc endorsement, mentioning that their product was more suitable than other brands for Ashbory players and I have been recommending it to other players. Miserable b'stards didn't bother replying and just added my email address to their mailing list until I unsubscribed. I used scotchbrite on the back of my japanese mustang neck to take off some of the gloss from it - its much better now.
18. The real sad thing was how the audience was lapping it up like cloth-eared numpties watching Glee.
19. StSanders would be able to put up a Joey De Maio Shreds video, but there wouldn't be much point as it would sound more polished than the original
20. I'd have thought that a compressor would negate the need for a limiter most of the time. At most settings, while its compressing its also limiting isn't it?. I'd use one or the other. I've tried lots, but my cheapo green behringer limiter pedal does what I need.
21. We only have a small PA, but all cables are coiled neatly and each type (Speaker / mic / power) is in its own supermarket "bag for life" which then all go into a large holdall which also has other bits & bobs - mains extensions, mics (in boxes) etc. When each bag for life wears out after a few gigs you can exchange it for a free replacement.
22. If they did, it would probably have a stupid inlay with his name on it that looks totally out of place
