The upload process is a little laborious... you upload the tune to the phone, then, before you can play it for the first time, it has to re-encode it. Admittedly I have a 3G, but it wasn't a particularly quick process. Basically, you're going to have to know what tunes you want (making sure there are less than 20) and prepare them in advance. It's a shame.
That makes it a deal-breaker for me. I'm not going to want to go through that - especially as a typical o5b gig is two sets of about 15 songs. Glad I wasn't tempted to preorder an iPhone 4 now
2. Bugger! That's taken away a lot of my excuses for wanting an iPhone4 now - this was the killer app on my wishlist I have hundreds of songs which could crop up on a set list or I might want to reaquaint myself with or try picking up new songs, so its handy to have immediate access to them. This is why I got rid of the tascam guitar trainer - 1Gb wasn't enough and the faffing about taking songs off & putting them on as needed (& making sure they were in the correct bitrate etc) was a pain in the bum. Lately I've just been using my macbook & guitar rig session I/O to play along with my setlist playlists in iTunes. I hope there is a better way of doing this on the iPhone - I wonder whether the multitasking in iOS4 will help?
3. I love my short scales. I have a few: 1971 musicmaster bass - the stock pickup was a mustang guitar pickup - like a shallow strat pickup even down to 6 poles. It sounded pretty weak - the E had that unfocussed tone you get with some cheap 5 strings on the B so I replaced it with a kent armstrong enclosed strat cool rails humbucker and it sounds a lot tighter yet looks totally stock. The tulip-shaped tuners do the job and look pretty, but are cheap tat. My Fender Japan mustang is a much classier instrument. Lovely neck shape, perfect tone from the stock pickup - its the default one I take for most gigs.
4. I'm definitely going to get it. I think I'll get an iPhone first though.
5.
Bad mood or very good mood the T-bird gets pulled out and cranked up.
Ha Ha Ha - I was in Foul mood before the acoustic blues jam night on Tuesday, so instead of my tanglewood acoustic bass, fretless precision, NS-upright or an ashbory, I took my thunderbird and a very long strap. Cheered me up a bit. My default bass for most gigs though is the mustang or the tanglewood for acoustic gigs.
6. Not me - I generally don't care what the pros are using. I wouldn't mind my own signature model though.
7. IMO its a waste of money to buy a fretted bass specifically to defret it. Different story to already owning a fretted bass and getting it defretted. If budget is tight looking for a secondhand fretless would be the cost effective way & you can see how it plays and sounds as a fretless before shelling out the wonga.
8. I sold my shell pink squier musicmaster, but I'm keeping my violetburst daisy rock:
9. I used to use a bit of cheap & cheerful PC software for this: magix audio cleaning lab - you can usually get the latest or previous version cheap whenever PC world have a sale. I wish there was a mac version as it was very easy to use and I could master a wav of an old cassette demo tape into a finished CD much quicker than I can now in Adobe Soundbooth.
10.
+1- the one you've linked to is a horrible mess layout wise. It looks like something from 1998, made in Frontpage. Yours is much leaner and cleaner.
+1 The trouble with myspace is that its always going to look a mess. It is not a substitute for a proper website if you feel you do need something more than a myspace sh*te. The one you linked to uses big blocks of text rendered as a graphic which can look nice, but are totally inaccessible to visually impaired uses (including the google spider).
11. Perhaps he was a guitarist standing in for the proper bass player
12. similar concept to prising off with teaspoons, I have removed push-on knobs by looping a shoelace around the pot shaft under the knob and pulling it upwards. Less chance of being cackhanded & making any indentations.
13. Wen I repositioned the button on my 'snowy-white' epi t-bird, I put a strap button screw in the hole with a nylon washer under it. Looks like a pointless bit of trim, but neater than a hole and possibly slightly less pointless than a non-used strap button. Last time I was asked what it was I said it was a laser and refused to demonstrate it for fear of blinding someone.
14. I hope his next assignment will be locating the Funk Machine for the Jamerson family
15. I'd have thought everything you NEED to know about a precision/jazz bass could be said on about four pages plus a few pics.
16. I have d-tuners on four of my basses, but not had this issue. Would a bit of ptfe tape help?
17. I had a very noticable dead spot on my highway 1 jazz. A fatfinger clamped to the headstock cured it.
18.
The ideal body would be a sunburst P, but finding that difficult to source without a neck on it,
I bought a MIJ sunburst P body from brandoni - it is identical to the one on my MIJ Fender '62 reissue. It was a while ago, but they might still have some.
19. I'd get a standard MIJ alder jazz body from brandoni for about £100, colour it the desired colour with woodstain and then danish oil it - I did this (but with a lighter woodstain) on a brandoni tele body & it looks great and was very easy to apply. You could probably get a suitable neck from brandoni as well. Then build it up with whatever hardware suits the budget.
20. Headphones are great for practicing alone, but I think there's a need to shift a little air for a rehearsal even if it means using acoustic guitars etc.
21. Dear Mr Coppolo, would you like me to design a high mass headstock for your basses which doesn't look like a club foot?
22. If you are making a noise which is a nuisance to other other people, turn it down or use headphones. Its not difficult.
23.
I'm sure if you ask real nicely they might be able to help you out
Don't encourage me - my missus thinks I already have enough basses
24. I guess its good for my bank-balance that Warmoth don't do mustang bass bodies & necks. If they did I'd fancy a fenderbird based on a firebird-type guitar body & mustang neck.
