1. nice! just like mine - before I blinged it up with loads of extra chrome
2. I can't stand it when rehearsals are used to practice rather than rehearse. Waste of everyone's time & money. Too many people don't know the difference.
3.
Here's another really helpful one for all budding promoters Promises so much yet offers so little. just like most promoters
4.
After he'd finished masturbating we just locked in together
I really want to get that image out of my head
5.
What year did Fender change to a 4 bolt neck for the p bass?
P bass never had the 3 bolt
6.
Fairly sure there isn't a right one, just one of the disc ones and stick it under the 'bridge'.
Yep - just use whatever they've got - I think I paid around a quid for mine, but check the wires are soldered properly I had a few where I had to resolder them and as they fell off when I took them out of the bag. It sounds best with a preamp (behringer ADI-21 works well for me) and the shorter the cable the better. I used one of these little buggers: http://maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3202 I think I just went for biggest they had in stock at the time.
7. I built an upright one from a length of 2" x 2" hardwood from the local timber merchant. I used a cheapo piezo element from maplin as the pickup, a keyhole cover as the tailpiece and bits of chopstick for bridge saddle & nut.
8. Tanglewood. I love my TRB CE 4 rosewood reserve http://www.dv247.com/guitars/tanglewood-ro...s-guitar--62635
9.
I would recommend you get Chuck Traeger's "Setup And Repair of the Double Bass for Optimum Sound"
I just checked this is on amazon as it sounds like the kind of book I could benefit from - current price is over £80!
10. It looks like the bridge has been cut low as the neck angle has changed. I think the neck needs to be set at the proper angle and then a new bridge fitted. Not that I'm an expert of course. edit - just seen prosebass has said much the same thing
11. I use the same TI JF344 flats on my epi t-bird as I use on my fenders. It sounds massive, but I'd guess that hasn't answered your question.
12. I'm definitely going to get this - I'd been looking for an iPod practice thingy for a while and as I'm planning to get an iPhone when the new ones come out this looks ideal.
13.
I think the idea of not having fret markers on a fretless is just to show off
Why else does anyone ever go on stage?
14. Nice Are you going to get the hair & jacket as well?
15.
I'll probably eventually get some Warmoth / Allparts ebony-board neck to go in the piezo body
If brandoni still sell maple/ebony fretless P necks, I'd recommend you look at one. About half the price of an allparts and excellent quality if they're still like mine: After reading this thread I quite fancy putting a piezo bridge in mine.
16. When I was in one of the sister shops to the basscellar, I overheard a gullible chap being sold a hardcase which was very overpriced and being advised to slacken off the strings before putting his guitar in the case prior to a journey to prevent damage to the neck
17.
Thanks for the advice guys, looks like a mouse mat would be the cheapest and easiest option. Plus, one mouse mat would last a lifetime - at least - IMO
+1 to mousemat I used a doubled-up pieces of mouse mat in my fretless build - works well.
18. I wonder how long she'd been standing outside the studio not knowing when to come in & not being able to find the key?
19.
Been looking at the Boss (enhancer/limiter) what do you think, not had much dealings with compression so not to sure ware to start
I nearly always use one of those (& I also bought a one spare I've not had to use). Cheap as chips and worth every penny. Its very transparent and evens out my levels to make my playing more audible at a lower volume if that makes sense. I've tired loads of compressors and it turned out that all along I was looking for a limiter.
20. According to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sbj2s singer guitarist drummer as well as the shadowy 'other one', whose face we don't quite know but without whom the magic wouldn't happen.
21.
the guitarist wanted me to use a series off pull offs in a particular passage in a song
He can suggest it, but you're the bass player; if it doesn't fit with your style then do something else in that passage which is your style. Start taking orders from a guitarist and it'll go to his head. Before you know it he'll be telling you what clothes to wear & sending you out on errands.
