1. The cherry burst precision is the twin of mine. I think the blurb on that listing may be misleading though - these basses were the last of the old era, not the first of the new era where they reversed the bad cost-cutting decisions of the CBS era. Mine weighs a ton, had really crap fretbuzz from new until I took it to the Gallery for a partial refret. Nice looking bass though.
2.
Looks like there's a brand new lifeform evolving under that bridge cover.
or bits from a disintegrating foam mute?
3. I managed to get a D-tuner to match my hipshot lollypop tuners on my Fretless precision. Not really much different to using it on a fretted bass.
4. I keep my Tanglewood in a Tribal Planet "rigid gigbag" case. http://www.amazon.co.uk/shipping-TRIBAL-PL...2874&sr=1-8
5. You have to call them something - mine are all pretty obvious: The Mustang The Musicmaster The Thunderbird The Jazz The Daisyrock The 5 String The Acoustic The Fretless The Black Ashbory The Blue Ashbory The Double Bass Danelectro Longhorn - The Dano Sunburst '62 reissue Precision - The Jamerson '81 heavy Ash Precision - The QEII Anchor NS CR-5M - the Ned & I used to have a dean pace called 'the banister'
6. Could it be a youngster who thinks the correct way to interact with people is how kids talk to each other & to adults on iCarly & Hannah Diahorrea? Whenever I get totally sick of the crap the kids watch on TV & I take the fuse out for a few days ("sorry kids the TV doesn't seem to be working at the moment!" followed by all three of them checking cables for about half an hour), I notice not only that the youngest is happy to play with his lego for hours without getting bored, but also the older two may not actually remember to say "please" & "thank you", but if prompted don't roll their eyes and say it sarcastically.
7. I've got three of them Oh you mean Ashdowns?
8. How many logos do they need onstage? Just one on the bassdrum or one cab would be enough. Any more looks like you're trying too hard. Less is more! He'll be getting his auntie to make band uniforms next - fell him to feck off.
9. I was expecting to see a Porsche with the same stupid paintjob as the foxtons w@nker minis.
10. I'm crap on Guitar. But then again 'm not much better on bass.
11.
Having said that, there could be other scenarios ....
found in dead uncle's loft?
12. I'm not aware of any EUB-specific tutorials, but I have the 2 volumes of Todd Phillips DVDs 'essential techniques for acoustic bass' which are good double bass starter lessons. Obviously he's not going to jump out of the screen and correct any bad habits of posture etc so its not the same as a 1 to 1 lesson, but the two DVDs cover a lot of the essentials for a beginner. 13.
Apparently he's an absolute perfectionist and knows exactly what he's on about..

...constantly slapping and popping on most fenders can lead to bowing?
Apparently not!
14.
Mr Drummer is sick.
If he goes to a private hospital for whatever he's got, he'll probably hear his own music in the lift.
15. around 1978ish - Yamato japcrap jazz bass copy £75 from soho soundhouse. Vox escort 30 guitar amp from one of the Denmark St shops. I sold the yamato when I got a Fender in 1982 not realising that it was OK to have more than one bass.
16. I have the same kent armstrong jazz lipsticks in my highway 1 jazz - great sounding pickups. The wide pickup spacing of the scheff helps gives it a bit more of a danelectro flavour as well. If its a red one I want it! Ed Friedland likes his: http://www.edfriedland.com/equipment/1/61
17. I like my action super-low and play with a light touch with thomastiks Jazz Flats. When I bought my mustang it did have an annoying buzz in one area of the neck due to one or two uneven frets once I put on the flats as the issue had been masked with higher tension strings and a bit more relief. I got the frets sorted out at the Gallery and it doesn't buzz at all now. Not really had any problems with any other basses though, apart from my '81 QE2 anchor precision which had a few badly fitted frets from new - also sorted at the Gallery.
18. Before swapping out, have you checked that the pickup isn't set to low for the string height? My MIJ P has plenty of output - although mine was made in 1990, so it could be different.
19. Funny you should ask that question Pete - often in pubs gigs where I have to be the 'beardyman' (why do soundmen always have beards? - even the female ones) we do Steely Dan's 'Do it again' because I can play the open E with my right hand and fiddle with the levels & eq on the PA with my left hand.
20. My last one came from this chap over the pond: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/HDCustom-Gui...634Q2ec0Q2em322 A good bloke to deal with and four items including a D-tuner took just over a week to arrive. I've just asked him about whether a lollypop set of the hipshot ultralites with 1/2" posts, plus a matching D-tuner are available. If so my CIJ mustang is probably on its way to being transformed into the coolest CIJ mustang ever! D-tuners are dead simple to install - no drilling or fiddling around at all, more or less unscrew the old one and screw on the new one - ensuring you use the supplied flat-topped screws. pop a bit of vaseline on the moving bit, tune it up & set the thumbwheel for the detuned note.
21.
Carbon tetrachloride is a banned substance since 2002, mainly due to it's ozone-depleting powers, and that it's carcinogenic and can cause liver and kidney damage. Apart from that, it's fine.
Also it's totally unpalatable without plenty of tonic water and lots of ice
22. I like Kandinsky. His paintings look like music.
