We have a live edit...but had to run it through an editing suite to EQ the vocals better as we put a Zoom box at the side of the stage as an afterthought and that wasn't the best place for the vox...as it turned out
That's just mastering - you always have to do that to some extent, especially without a multitrack recording. I think people are complaining more about the increasing amounts of overdubs you get on 'live' albums - I remember reading the sleeve notes of one of my Zappa albums where a single song was made up of performances from all over the place spliced together with a guitar solo added in the studio. Sounded good though.

I've just thought of a few more: Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison & Live at San Quentin For sheer energy I'd recommend the Geno Washington 60s set of 'Live' albums Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky-Butt ... Live! Hipster Flipsters, Finger Poppin' Daddies Running Wild Despite sounding like they were recorded 'back in 68 in a sweaty club', only one of the albums was actually recorded at a real gig though - the other two were recorded 'live in the studio' with an invited audience.

I fitted one to my epiphone thunderbird. It looks like it is a bought-in tuner with hipshot gubbins added to make it into a D-Tuner rather than something made totally by hipshot - like my lollipop late 60s-style D-tuner which matches the hipshot tuners I put on my fretless P. The tuner on mine is good quality - certainly better that the stock epiphone ones. I haven't noticed any play on mine. Certainly not when strung up to pitch. The string post not being long enough worried me at first and I had to cut a bit off my E string to accomodate, but I still managed to get four or five neat winds of the string around it (I use TI Flats) so it doesn't worry me at all. It works perfectly as a tuner and I can drop to D and back to E in the middle of a song for my low D - which is how I use it as I'm too thick to drop to D for a whole song as it confuses me having to transpose just one string.
Thats a beautiful fretless you have assembled. Not really thought about tuners much but I like those lollipops
Cheers Clarky - I put it together probably about four or five years ago. The stumpy schallers worked perfectly, but always bugged me. The lollys look much better.

I'm just glad that he doesn't make mustang basses - I wouldn't be able to resist getting my wallet out for a replica '66 'aged but not too reliced' Daphne Blue one.

Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall is one of my favorites -along with Donny Hathoway live of course. Has anyone mentioned James Brown Live at the Apollo yet?
JLP, where did you get the lollipop d-tuner from? I can't see them on the Hipshot website.
I got mine from joshmsr on ebay. He's a good chap to deal. Looks like he still has some: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Blummin' good price even with the delivery charge added on.

Help: Removing varnish from Fender neck.
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Beedster's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've taken the sticky glossiness of some of my basses including the very glossy neck of my CIJ Mustang using scotchbrite - I think its sold as wire wool substitute. I have a roll of very fine grey stuff which works well for me. -
I was going to post a new pic of my fretless hipshot lollyed P, as it it now in addition to the tuners pictured in my first post of this thread, one tuner has now been replaced with a lolly D-tuner - but as its the same as the on in lozbass's pic I guess I'll put the camera down
I've always liked EMG's in a Pbass too - punchy and warm, but with added bite if you want it..but most people will pay a lot more for the originals.
I like my EMP P with 18v of oomph! Not so good powered from 9v though.

I use fingers. Can get messy obtaining them though.

I would probably love these if I was 14 and had a single £100 bass, but I bet they look a bit crap up close.

Pedals you prefer the sound of to your 'basic' tone?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to theosd's topic in Effects
Two for me - both Behringers both with totally unmemorable names The green limiter pedal maintains dynamics where you want them. The brown acoustic preamp works as a DI & works very nicely to sweeten the tone of an acoustic bass, electric upright or ashbory as well as making my stratacousic sound like a much more expensive guitar. -
The meths doesn't taste as good after soaking the strings though No soaking for me - I like dead TI flats. My oldest set is probably about 7 or 8 years old & they still sound great.
-
If I needed another precision I'd be all over one of these. The fiesta red looks great.
£259
A pound less than I paid Rockbottom for my MIA 'QEII anchor' cherryburst precision - bought new in 1982 when the MIJ Squier JVs (with fender logo) were £150.

Ishibashi Music start a International Blog

Blogspot - why are sending their traffic to blogger? From an SEO point of view that's dumb. They should self-host their blog on their own domain. -
Sorry but Fireflies is a brilliantly well written song!
Well I'm effing sick of it, its nursery rhyme melody, sing-song lyrics and everything overcompressed and autotuned. Horrible characterless drivel (IMHO). -

I'm hearing and trying not to listen to rubbish coming out of my daughter's laptop. So far she's play something called fireflys which has buckets of autotune and some tracks from glee which also have buckets of autotune. Kill me now. -
Fender Precisions - they're fantastic
Get one the late 70's 'body builder' 11lb P Basses - no neck dive on those!
I can vouch for that. After playing mine, any other bass feels like its made of helium. -
I played on one of these a little while ago and was amazed by the projection, volume and clarity of it played purely acoustically. After playing on a few acoustics over the years i had just always excepted that they were only ever any good if they semi acoustic and plugged in but now i really want one....the only problem being that this being a martin the price tag was a little out of my range. My question is that is there any acoustic basses out there in the more budget price range with actual volume played acoustically?
My Tanglewood rosewood reserve has a great tone (with TI acoustic strings) and has a solid sitka spruce top & is nice & loud played acoustically. I used to think tanglewood were a cheap & cheerful brand, but this one oozes quality. Its well worth the £359 current price at DV247, but I managed to get an ex-demo one from ebay for £230.
