1.
The down side to using this might be that now my guitarist wont be able to feel me over his side of the stage
fnarr!
2. For most gigs I don't go through a PA as we only have a small vocal PA. My 1212L with LMII has always been either loud enough or too loud.
3. I don't know why the advice given above was to avoid the dean pace - I thoroughly enjoyed the one I owned & it gave a sound & feel very different to a fretless bass to make it worthwhile. It isn't designed to be bowed as the target market (people like me?) are probably not interested in using a bow. They sometimes come up secondhand at a good price. A set of TI JF354 & a cheapo behringer ADI21 preamp made mine sound very good. I've since upgraded to a Ned Steinberger CR5M which is in a totally different class, but its in a different price range as well.
4.
I actually feel sorry for the geezer.
perhaps someone should organise a whip-round for him.
5. have you tried turning it off & back on again?
6. Andy/Zsa Zsa in the hamsters uses a custom thumb pick as he has a condition which affects his hand.
7. 10,000 is a ridiculous amount for a limited edition. As a comparison, Epiphone's limited edition thunderbirds such as my alpine white one was a run of 500.
8. A part of it was rumoured to have been played by the bloke from the hollies? Whoop-de-doo. Whoever told hime to insure it for a grand should have explained that would cover him if it was nicked and he wanted to build another one just like it. If he had asked the same bloke how much he'd give him for it he would have got a very different valuation.
9. I think my hohner B2A has one. Can't be bothered to get it out if its case to check though.
10. Yep - certainly sounds like a MIJ 62RI P to me. I have a 1990 one. The necks is wider than my other Ps, but doesn't seem as deep front to back - perhaps that's what makes it comfy to play? Mine is wearing TI flats and it is superfast for such a wide neck.
11.
DRG: So at the time you worked in the store, seeing them every day, playing them every day — how many Les Pauls actually gave you a hard-on?
Is that how guitarists talk to each other? I reckon he might just be a crap player. If he was any good he would be able to get a decent sound out of any guitar. Sounds like there's possibly a certain amount of FUD in there to get people to buy instore rather than on that new-fangled interwebs thing.
12. I recently put a set of the LaBella 'danelectro' strings on my longhorn. They fit better than the ancient rotosounds I had before. They still have a bit of a 'new-string' twang and tend to show up a bit of fret buzz dead strings was masking, but that should go soon hopefully. I like the feel of them. Not as classy as TI JF324, but the TIs won't fit. The bit that goes on the tuner is very thin compared to just about any other bass string - in fact its more like a geetar string there, also they smaller ball ends which fit the bridge better. I think these strings are supposed to be exactly the same as the ones LaBella made for danelectro which were fitted to the original basses in the 50s & 60s.
13.
I have had both those Basses and for me after much trial and expense both were fitted with Ti Flats ( Thomastik Infeld )
I love TI flats on my mustang - JF324 fit perfectly.
14. My favourite bum note on the Bass at 3:08 where Trevor Bolder seems to think it's going back into the verse rather than repeat the chorus. oops - just noticed Chris mentioned it while I was looking for the vid
15.
Surely a player has the capability of being more precise on a fretless instrument as they are not impeded by the tempered tuning of a fretted instrument?
You obviously haven't heard me playing mine.
16. I was in my local shop the other day - there were some nice looking Corts in there, but the prices were unbelievable. One was £1300. I'm sure it was a nice playing & sounding instrument, but £1300 for an indonesian-built cort!
17. Reading the description on the Wunjo website it appears the body was made for J.E. but there's no mention of him actually having a bass built with it or even owning it. I wonder what documentation they have of it. I was in there the other day & saw it - I don't recall any indication that it wasn't all fender and I think the sign on it just said something like "John Entwistle's Bass".
18. They made me pay £18 for a new tweeter for a cab that blew just after the warranty ran out and I noticed the new one had a resister in parallel - dunno if the old one should have had one or they added this as they kept blowing or maybe another reason... The VU meter was pretty useless on my MAG300 head, so if it had failed I wouldn't have bothered replacing it.
19. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with it apart from not being particularly fashionable at the moment.
20.
Love the last pic.
The tone pot has a push-pull switch to engage invisibility mode?
21.
Equally not cheap but prone to 100% genuine stuff is http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses.htm
Nice! http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/bas...cbprecision.htm That's what mine looked like when I paid £260 for it new in 1982. Its still in pretty good nick, but not as good as this £1900 one.
