The tweeter went in the MAG 210 deep cab I used to have* Suddenly I smelt something burning and a lot of the treble dropped off - Ashdown sent me a replacement for £18 delivered which was simple to fit (I think it may have required a bit of soldering rather than being a quick screwdriver job). I noticed the new one had a big resister already soldered in parallel which the old one didn't have. *it was my own fault - I was channeling John Enwhistle rehearsing our cover of substitute and went a bit mad with the volume, distortion & treble.

South East Bass Bash No.5, Surrey, Saturday 24th September 2011
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
I've not been able to make it to a bass bash so far, but hopefully I'll be able to make this one - especially if the 'no slapping' rule is going to be enforced Not sure what I could bring that might be interesting? I'm sure my rig is pretty standard - LMII & 1212L

might bring one or two of these:
Danelectro Longhorn (original Korean RI version)
Fender Ashbory with Pahoehoe polyurethane strings
NS CR5M EUB
'81 cherry sunburst precison with EMG p/up
Ebony boarded Fretless Precision (Bitzer)
Epiphone Pro-V Thunderbird
CIJ mustang
'72 musicmaster
Tanglewood rosewood reserve acoustic bass
-
I'd go for a good old PJ combo. My fretless only has a P & that has plenty of mwahh for my taste, but the bridge J seems to be the classic mwahh pickup.

why a whammy? I can slide my finger up & down a string on my fretless for similar results

I've now deleted all nekkid Beyonce pics I posted. Hope everyone enjoyed them while they were there

Squier Classic Vibe '50s P Bass (Butterscotch)
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Davout's topic in Basses
The pine thing is interesting - I s'pose it has to be a different type of pine to the soft knotty stuff used to make argos bunk beds. Isn't agathis classified as a type of pine? that's fine for instruments, so maybe this is something similar. -

A youtube clip with some very nice slapping!

Ever been persuaded to buy a bass by a band member?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to megallica's topic in General Discussion
The band leader (singer/songwriter) wanted us to look more "professional" and I "had" to buy a Fender so people would take us more serious.
I'd have told him where to get off unless he was offering a new bass as a gift. -
Rotosound review at Bass Musician Magazine
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to BISCUITANDBASS's topic in General Discussion
Last time I bought rotosounds I had three sets of jazz flats & they were terrible - totally uneven in feel & sound across each set. That was probably ten years ago, so hopefully they've improved since then. I've discovered strings I like much better than theirs which is a bit of a shame as they sound like nice people. -
Have you ever thought something was a good idea....
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
and here are 50 pages of amendments...
I bet one of the amendments is that you can't say that kind of blue is "the greatest jazz recording of all time" as everyone knows that moondance is the greatest jazz recording of all time -

Dunno if this one's any better than what you've found: http://www.quiklok.com/catalog/?p=products...mp;sName=MS-303 -
Two basses, one amp with one input.
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Personally I'm happy with unplugging & plugging. It only takes a second and most basses have a volume knob. I use a planet waves cable with a latching mute button in the jack - does the job for me in achieving a quick silent switchover without spending silly amount of money to save a couple of seconds on a gig. -
John Paul Jones' bass??
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The JPJ link is tenuous and only hinted at. Looks kind of reminiscent of something Hugh Manson *might* make, but if it was I'm pretty sure they'd be a logo on it. -
Wikipedia, the holder of all truths, disagrees with this story. This could be a good upgrade for anyone with a Squier bronco bass. I've used similar pickups to replace the stock ones in a couple of early 70s Fender musicmaster basses. My favourite is a Kent Armstrong enclosed cool rails which is in my daphne blue musicmaster - looks original but sounds punchy and deep. The exposed hot rails in the other one (my daughter's lilac musicmaster) looks fairly similar to this one and is still a great improvement on the original pickup, but a bit more rickenbackery.
-
If I saw someone gigging a bass with a stock sticker on it, I'd probably think it was their birthday and they've just unwrapped it, or they've borrowed the bass from a shop. If I was looking a secondhand one the presence of the sticker wouldn't make it worth any more to me.

I prefer a standard BBOT on a Precision and a high-mass type (such as a Badass) on a jazz. Not 100& certain why, but I'm guessing the sustain is not as good with a BBOT particularly in the lower frequencies, so the attack seems like it has more - er - attack which is what you want from a precision more than a jazz. ...Of course that could be complete cack.

Jagger/Richards and the rest of the stones get nothing (yes not a bean) from any stones material recorded before 1971 as they had a UK company called Nanker Phelge that royalties were paid onto before being passed onto the individual band members. Their manager at the time then got them to sign a contract transferring all payments and future earnings for everything written so far to a company called Nanker Phelge US. They assumed that this was a US subsidiary of their existing company, but it wasn't and was actually 100% owned by the manager - it seems they were robbed with a fountain pen.

Kent Armstrong or Wizard could probably rewind/rebuild the existing one or maybe make something new to fit.
I'm not sure what you're suggesting, but the graining on the headstock is quite different. Definitely not the same bass! Whoops, just noticed the skunk stripe too! So maybe it's the same bass with a new neck ?
Um yeah - I was not looking at the neck or pickguard
Link doesn't work anymore so I'm guessing it's been pulled.
Awww - and before a chum of the seller came wading into the thread throwing his weight around and accusing everyone who'd commented of being as ignorant as he & the seller are and/or trying to get the price down to snag it for themselves at a knockdown price.

We're listed as "Rock" which is probably broad enough to cover what we do as most people seem to think think americana is a big cup of black coffee.
