Giving up on going smaller/lighter with cabs?!

Pick up cover on my Jazz yes or no?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to waynepunkdude's topic in Bass Guitars
It looks blummin' brilliant with it on, so I vote keep it. My Precisions & my Highway 1 Jazz have one, plus the jazz has a badass. However I only play fingerstyle and have no interest in slapping, picking, hitting the bass with kippers, or any other righthand technique so it suits my 'jamerson-inspired' style to rest my hand on the cover. Saying that, my no1 live bass, a mustang would look odd with one so I have to make do without. -
Temporary Ashtray Fixing
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to waynepunkdude's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hey Wayne, halfords trim repair tape will do the job - I used it to put a PBass pickup cover on my DaisyRock Elite as I didn't want to drill through the pearloid top. If you PM me your address I'll drop some in the post for you. -
err, I've actually played one of them... friends... they are top heavy, unbalanced shortscale wierdos, you cant play sat down and it sounds surprisingly good. Ballsy even.
Come on, be fair, surely it looks more like a big purple arse than a pair of balls! Hang on, I'm not doing a very good job of selling it am I? It does balance a lot better using the extra strap button I added where the bottom horn would be.

Hello Jeff Are you sure you're not the same person that registered here, searched out all the long-dead posts about japanese fenders, gave your site a plug on each thread then buzzed off only to return to stick up for your site? If so: water under the bridge, everyone does something daft now & then. I guess you are referring to me in your post. Apologies if we got off on the wrong foot. I don't think I was being snide - I was saying it as I saw it. I have known people who have lost money thinking they're getting a bargain buying online, not hearing from the seller and then found no way of tracing where their money went. If you are establishing a trustworthy business I wish you good luck, however with your site you seem to have made all the classic mistakes about establishing trust. First: you need to be open about who you are on the site and give proper verifiable contact information upfront. Second: Fender will close you down if you continue to operate with your existing domain name, meaning your site will disappear as your webhost/domain registrar will get the cease & desist letter to take the site down. As you were wondering - I have no axe to grind. I work for myself as a freelance web developer. I know the difference between a professional site and one set up for little or no cost. You might have had a chance of success with a site like yours ten years ago, however these days people are a lot more clued up and suspicious if things don't look right. If you're interested in trading a bass for a more professional site, feel free to send me a PM. There's also a chap on here that is an absolute wizard with usability and SEO stuff that may be interested in a deal.

Its on eBay, but if anyone wants it & can pickup from me in South London before any bids go on, pull your finger out & I'll cancel the auction. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT Warwick Rockbag. Lightweight case. Nylon outside, Nice & Furry like a teddy bear inside. Fits Fender Precision / jazz & probably most other similar sized basses Very good condition only used a few times. Bass not included!

Sounds & feels very much like my mustang with its 30" scale and punchy 'Duncan Designed' P bass pickup, but heart-shaped. ...And very Purple (with lots of mojo).

P bass PUPs. Are they in the correct configuration?

Leo finally got it right for me with the last bass he designed for Fender -
Don't recall ever seeing a fender jazz like that with an unlined fingerboard. It may be an unusual Japanese model, but I'd guess its likely to be a bitzer. The neck looks similar to my brandoni precision neck & the decal could be an eBay job. If the bits are decent quality it could be worth a punt if its cheap enough. As its being sold as a fender you're covered if it turns out to be a customised argos bass, but probably too much hassle unless a pickup is possible.

No. If anyone wants a better look they'll click on it. As an alternative host your pic elsewhere and embed it.
How do you find the lipsticks? How vintage is the voicing? Dan
To get it more Danelectro-like I think I'd have had to move the neck one forward and the bridge one back - like the Lakland Jerry Scheff. Its hard to say how vintage the voicing is as I have a set of very old (ie totally worn-in) TI JF344 on the bass and a J-Retro which I guess kind of work against each other. With the J-Retro in passive mode it still sounds like a Jazz - maybe warmer than most jazz basses I'e played, but I could be imagining that and it could be down to my string choice. I'm thinking of taking the J-retro out and rewiring the original passive gubbins with a series/Parallel switch, but I probably won't get around to it. With all the chrome my jazz does look more like a motorbike now.

Am I allowed to post a link for this even though its on eBay? If its not correct BC etiquette - sorry  Yamaha Bass Magicstomp pedal UB-99B This ends tomorrow. The pedal is boxed and in top condition, it has brilliant sounds and it can load up patches for the guitar and acoustic versions as well as the bass one.

I have Thomastik JF324 flatties on my CIJ reissue mustang. They only come in a floppy light guage so they are very fast & easy to play. They sound perfect - deep and huge. If anything the short scale makes them slightly darker sounding than comparable 34" strings on precison as far as I can tell.

I have a pair of Kent Armstrong jazz lipsticks in my j-retro equipped highway 1 jazz. Great pickups.
they are lookalike gimmicks which retro freaks like to have they add weight and get in the way
[s]utter bollocks[/s] I beg to differ. I'm most comfortable if I can rest my hand on the cover and play in the same way James Jamerson did (but without the virtuosity)
