I'm listening to the audiobook of Samuel L Jackson reading the children's story "Go the F**k to Sleep"

I wonder whether this means the CIJ Fender mustang bass will be discontinued

I'm pretty sure I've seen an ad in Bass Player with him endorsing Thomastics a few years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he used rotos back in the day though - when no one knew any better or could get anything else.

A cheap solution that *may* give you what you're looking for is to get a jazz & wire in a series/parallel switch like the Fender S1 switch.

This thread is a refreshing contrast to the Clutterbuck thread. Our drummer goes to a lot of gigs and never normally mentions bass players he's seen, but he saw Steely Dan a couple of years ago and from the way he was raving about Freddie W, it sounded like his playing made quite an impact on him.

Careful, he might google his name, find this thread, register as a BCer and start defending himself. I don't know or care enough about this style of bassplaying to comment on his skills, but I think I could probably get a similar sound by rolling a dustbin full of spoons down the stairs.

It sounds like the shop let a numpty loose on your bass. Get them to do the job properly or take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

If you replace the jack (& in this case it sounds like its the standard 'open' type), be sure to get a proper branded switchcraft one, not something crappy from maplins.

An off-the shelf one won't fit in the squashed soundhole of the eko, but I've had similar results from using blu-tac to stick a CD over a guitar soundhole, so anything fairly solid will do the job.

Can't stand high action - why make it difficult to play? In my experience I think that in a lot of cases (but not all) this could be the result of the owner: a) not knowing how to setup a bass not wanting to spend money on a setup or c) not knowing that basses need to be setup - "this is how it came from the shop" - even though they may have changed the strings for a different type

+1 for the feedback buster & ad121 - both work well on my tanglewood acoustic bass as well

are other instruments stomping on your frequencies? There are two guitarists in my band - I remember a rehearsal when the guitarist put changed from Martin electroacoustic and telecaster to Gibson 335 & les Paul and I continued with my jazz bass. The overall sound of the band turned into a mess of low end mush even though we didn't sound any louder - everyone was contributing to the low and low-mids so there was no definition in that part of the audio spectrum. It sounded so bad it was pointless carrying on with the song until they worked out how to eq their amps so that everyone had space

I wonder how long it would take to clean it up so it looks less like a dirt protest edit -I am of course referring to the bass, not the hyperthetical video of Jack & the lesbians

I wonder whether you can see that you weren't very successful in defending how he had incorrectly listed his bass and managed make you yourself look a little foolish in the process. A more successful approach would probably have been to have introduced yourself into the conversation as someone with personal knowledge of the seller and the bass in question and state the facts as you see them along with your opinions of its authenticity in a calm and reasoned manner. Such a post would certainly have made me more willing to give your friend the benefit of doubt about whether the inclusion of incorrect information in the listing was wilful or not. Instead you put on a lame hardman act, belittled people who gave the benefit of their knowedge and experience by referring to them as "self-styled experts" and incorrectly threw around false allegations of possible libel - all whilst admitting that you know nothing about the instrument in question and being incapable of providing any evidence to back up your position that the questionable information was correct other than vague unquoted hearsay and wishful thinking. If I had acted in such manner (we all have an off-day and make a fool of ourselves ocassionally) and realised I was totally out of order, I would have apologised to the people concerned, but I have no such expectation from you.
