1. I know some fellow BCers have an H4, so this is a heads-up for those that still have v1 of the firmware on theirs.

I recently upgraded the obviously 5 believers mobile recording studio (aka, the wax cylinder) to the latest version, v2.30, of the firmware.

It now works with an 8gb SDHC card I got for £10 from amazon. Now with a set of 2700mAh NiMH batteries I can leave the H4 running for over five hours (when the batteries give up) and record everything at 24bit - even longer if running off the PSU.

Before the upgrade, the largest cards we had that worked with the H4 were 2GB SD - We'd have to change cards between sets to be sure of not losing anything.

Another new feature is a battery capacity/ recording time indicator on the stereo mode recording screen.

If you have an H4 with the original v1 firmware, I'd definitely recommend this free upgrade.

2. We're opening for Stan Webb's Chicken Shack at the Boom Boom Club (@ Sutton United FC) This evening Friday 20/3/09.

Our set will be showcasing songs off our recent CD. Our good friend Bill Smith (ex Deluxe Blues Band & now leading Buffalo Bills Blues Band) will be guesting with us on harmonica.

3.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was wondering whether those of you with the Roland Bass micro cube RX could give an opinion on whether it would be loud enough to keep up with acoustic instruments (guitar / hand drums / accordion / vocals) for band practice sessions. If not, does anyone have an opinion as to what is the smallest, lightest amp that could?

Thanks!
For acoustic blues rehearsals with acoustic guitar, snare (played with brushes), harmonica & unmiked vocals, I play my ashbory basses through a little kustom tube12 guitar amp. I also have slightly larger BT15 crate bassamp (also with 8" speaker), the kustom sound much nicer to my ears (I can get a deeper sound out of it) but either is loud enough in an otherwise acoustic setting. It also copes well with my NS CR5M 5 string upright at a similar volume.

4.
I don't trust those damn things. I've seen one fail before, and it was quite embarrassing for the guitarist who thought he was about to come in on a huge rocking chord and he didn't.
Yes that would happen if you forget to switch the button to 'on'. :)

5. In my experience my heavy ash precision sounds a lot brighter my alder one. That could be due to the maple fingerboard against a rosewood one though, but I can't work out why that might make a difference if body wood doesn't. Body wood may not make the biggest tone difference of all the possible variables, however I believe it can make a difference.

If anyone believes otherwise, it makes no difference to me. They can believe in Pixies, Eskimos and a magic man that lives in the sky for all I care.

6.
Gary Numan works for south west trains.
he once checked my ticket.
no jokes
You know I hate to ask
But are trains electric?

sorry :)

7. Another possibility is that your artcore just needs a setup. If the relief is outside of the ideal range it can feel stiff and uncomfortable to play.

I picked up one of my basses yesterday (my self-built fretless Precision, which I haven't payed for a while) and I hated everything about it - it was just harder work to play it compared to my others. I noticed the action was a bit high so I checked the relief. There was obviously more relief than I normally have, so I got my tools out, tweaked the truss rod & checked action & intonation. Five minutes later its back to its easy-playing old self.

8. My mate Sandy the didj man wants to sell his strat. For now there's a quick post on his website. Hopefully he'll post some more pics, details & a price soon: http://www.didjeridu.co.uk/.

Any idea how much he should be asking for this?

Its a fender Strat
Its MIJ in around 1985
It has factory fitted Kahler trem & locking nut
t has a maple neck & sunburst (most likely alder I think) body
It plays very nicely with low action and sounds like a strat should.
Its in good nick with just a couple of minor dings on the edge of the body.
Hey Trip Wamsley is great - but I also rather like Jeff Schmidt - yes this is 'extended' solo bass noodliing - but his fretless sound is rather lovely and he's got some great ideas (for a guy who plays his bass back to front and upside down :) )

Is that the StSanders version?
