1. A Badass II would work on a jag with no drilling needed. You will need to file slots on the saddles or get a pre-slotted bridge. As for the neck dive its easier & cheaper to move the top strap button. I cured the dive on my thunderbird (probably the worlds most neck-divingest bass) by moving the button to the neck heel area.
2. To check the intonation - Using an electronic tuner can you see if the harmonic over the 12th fret is exactly the same pitch as the fretted note at the 12th for each string? If not it needs setting up properly. Its definitely worth learning how to do your own setups as it really is money for old rope once you get the hang of it and understanding how everything interacts will enable you to set up your instrument exactly how you like it.
3. I quite fancy one of the 30" scale LPB jazzes - It'll make me look like I'm taller.
4.
Bolt neck, with threaded inserts and machine screws, gotta be the way, can do them up as tight as you like without stripping, anf you can adjust the action and everything.
I've often wondered why more manufacturers don't do this
5.
I think its a mouth swab, Tom...
So we want to know which celebrity had his c*ck in his mouth? Urgh!
6.
This older more experienced bassist told me in a shop to purchase a thru-neck as it prevents the neck moving
That's utter b0llocks. Only very badly made bolt ons will move. I have both types and my preference is for bolt-ons as I like to shim the neck to get the set-up I like which is low action with very little relief, but the strings quite high near the bridge, I can never get a set/thru neck set up as well as my trusty bolt-ons. Others might prefer what they hear as better sustain of a neck-thru or more punch of a bolt-on, but I'm not really convinced that there is a major difference in sound.
7. I'm sure its a Framus Star Bass - look at the body shape & headstock on this one. The only difference I can see seems to be the pickguard: http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules/model...ID=83&cl=DE
8. Close but no cigar - the cutaway is a different shape, there are two "f" holes and the tuners have plastic buttons. It looks more like an old framus star bass to me.
9. I like 'em - particularly the banana custard one, although for that price I'd rather get a CIJ mustang bass in california blue and lots of beer.
10. Whenever I've had problems with jack sockets, bending them back into shape was at best a temporary solution and the permanent solution was to replace them with switchcraft sockets. Cheapo ones are often fairly flimsy and more liable to bending out of shape. I'm not sure what's fitted to MIM Ps, but if it isn't a switchcraft its a cheap & easy upgrade that could be worth doing.
11.
I do too. I have a Gibson SG reissue. It's super sweet. Currently strung with TI flats.
Nice - TI flats are my favourite strings - all my 34" basses have JF344, but I have mostly old roto flats on my 30" basses . I tried JF324s on the mustang and they fit perfectly - v pleased with that combination.
12. In addition to my 34" basses including Three Precisions, a jazz and a thunderbird I also love 30" scale basses - I have a korean danelectro longhorn a '71 sonic blue musicmaster, a shell pink Squier musicmaster and the newest addition - a CIJ vintage white mustang which is my favourite to play of all my basses at the moment. My daughter also has two 30" basses and a 32" Anyone else into short scale basses?
13. I saw pics of a "vintage white" one that looked even cooler than the red one, but white doesn't seem to even be available as an option in japan now - they do have sunburst though.
14. I have the guitar version of the MP3 trainer as it was available before the bass one came out. I never bother with the fx anyway, so I'm very pleased with it. The only gotcha with it is that is is a bit fussy about the format of the mp3 files, but if I make them 128k @44.1 its happy. I tend to use ogg files on my iriver & samsung players, so if I need to convert the files I tend to use nero, but for converting from wma I think you can use windows media player, but there's also a handy article here: http://www.jakeludington.com/windows_media...wma_to_mp3.html I find the size of the mp3 trainer very handy - much more convenient to use than the CD trainer and being able to recharge the battery over usb is great. It would be much better if it could handle muliple playlists, more formats (such as wma/ogg) and maybe a colour screen with a more intuitive UI, but apart from those minor niggles I don't think I'd be able to find a device that I like so much for learning / practicing.

I'll be playing my new mustang bass through the Little Mark 2 & Schroeder 1212L
16. Do people suddenly become crap musicians as soon as they're over 30?
17. I've just noticed - Location Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia, postage $85 (plus insurance). I'd pass whether its genuine or not.
18. I'm not a mm expert, but it seems OK to me as long as the cracks aren't in the wood. It might be good with a status graphite mm5 neck, but it'll still need a great big ugly mm5 pickguard.
19. I'm very happy with my 4Ohm Schroeder 1212L used with my Little Mark II. One of those, or another Schroder such as the 1210L might be good with a superfly.
20. I *used* to just accept that they were the cheapest around for everything - but its still worth shopping around as a few things on their site seem to be priced a bit over the odds - eg £538 for a CIJ fender mustang bass, where everyone else can do one for £400. The UK prices on their site aren't always accurate, so don't forget to work out the Uk price and factor in any currency conversion commission fee your credit card company will add on. They don't like delivering to non-cardholder address even if you have placed a few previous orders, so everything has to be delivered to home rather than work, which can be a pain arranging for someone to be in.
21. Not a playing mistake, but something that ended up on the released version that usually goes unnoticed: On Hey Jude at 2:58, one of the band says "f'kin' 'ell" under the vocals.
22. Howabout Fingertips while Stevie's playing his harmonica, Bass Player Larry Moses can be heard asking "What Key? What Key?"
