1. Someones been following the Oasis method of songwriting methinks
2. I've used a mixers, a switch boxes and a dual channel amp, but now I use a planet waves circuit breaker cable which has a little latching button on the right angle jack to mute the signal.
3. When I had a Trace Elliot 715SM combo I noticed a rattling sound when I took it to rehearsal once and found my son had hidden five or six of his hot wheels cars in it. He must have been running the track into the port and letting the cars roll in.
4. What an elementary mistake to make.
5. My mate Sandy the didj man wants to sell his strat. For now there's a quick post on his website. Hopefully he'll post some more pics, details & a price soon: http://www.didjeridu.co.uk/. Any idea how much he should be asking for this? Its a fender Strat Its MIJ in around 1985 It has factory fitted Kahler trem & locking nut t has a maple neck & sunburst (most likely alder I think) body It plays very nicely with low action and sounds like a strat should. Its in good nick with just a couple of minor dings on the edge of the body.
6. THe JP Jones P is the closest thing to a Jamerson, but unfortunately looks crap. Also in the guitar/bass sets the scale length of the basses and guitars seem top be the same. Shame.
7. With that headstock shape, they should have called it "the mivvi"
8.
Hey Trip Wamsley is great - but I also rather like Jeff Schmidt - yes this is 'extended' solo bass noodliing - but his fretless sound is rather lovely and he's got some great ideas (for a guy who plays his bass back to front and upside down ) M
Is that the StSanders version?
9. The classic 70s style logo would be a must. To get this I would look at a highway1 Precision (latest version) or a MIJ 70s reissue. Or alternatively a Squier and a dodgy 70s style logo transfer from ebay.
10.
...any guitar player can play a bass!! arse I say!
tell them to listen to Ron Wood's attempt on Maggie May.
11. Precision bass jnr. Made in Mexico. Not as long ago as 15 yrs though - probably more like five at a guess. Available in Black or red iirc. I think it was about 27.5" scale, I have a couple of Squier mini strats for the kids, but the P bass seemed to be better made.
12. From the clue in the last pic, I bet that was a great 4th Birthday Present
13. Epsom's not far from me so I'll probably try to get to one soon if I can get some mates/bandmates interested. 3 Questions - Is there any parking nearby? Is it mostly bands that turn up or individuals called up to form impromtu bands? Is it OK to bring a bass if I'm not very good?
14. B & D but with a discount thrown in for the hassle. Or failing that A & D and take your business to somewhere more professional like the Gallery where instruments always seem to have been set up and inspected before going on sale. "Its normal for it to be scratched up" Is clearly bullsh*t and by saying it the assistant makes the shop as a company look ignorant, dishonest or both. The Owner/manager will want to know how the staff treat customers. I'd be more pi55ed off at being lied to than the condition as that wasn't under the store's control, although they should have checked it before telling you to pick it up.
15. I use pick on guitar and used to use them on bass in the 80s but I only use fingers these days. I don't give a toss what other players use though. They could hit the strings with sardines for all I care.
16. Apart from the body, paint, pickguard, bridge, tuners & pickups it should be pretty much the same.
17.
I use the AX3000B to put some short but fairly thick reverb onto the sound, which gives more of an acoustic upright effect - after all, an EUB doesn't have a big echoey box attached to it. I also cheat and use the Slow Gear type effect to give a bowing sound
I had reverb put on the CR5M when recording the o5b album. I asked the engineer for a room the size of a cupboard to emulate the bass fiddle's body and the 'cupboardy sound' catch phrase has stuck in the band now. Using a slow gear effect is a good idea. I'll have to try that next time I record. I wonder if there's a module in guitar rig that'll do it
18. I bought the NI Guitar Rig Sessions pack including a lovely little USB2 interface & the cut-down version of GR3 XE, there's an offer on until the end of March to get a free upgrade from the included cut-down XE version to the full version of Guitar Rig 3. I've just received the upgrade code from NI and my guitar rig is now updated to the full version and it all works with no perceivable latency on my MacBook - I'm chuffed - its a a bargain. Its listed slightly cheaper at reverb, but I got a pricematch from DV247.com, so the Interface & now Full version software cost me £145 inc postage. There's only one bass amp model, but its a good one, and the guitar amps & fx are very varied and sound fantastic. It also comes with a €25 voucher towards a Kore soundpack to load into the free NI Kore player vsti, so I'll probably get a half-price Hammond B3 pack.
19. How about a nice block of perspex?
20. I have the Kent Armstrong Jazz lipsticks on my Highway1 jazz. I also have a J-retro fitted so any comments about how good they sound probably won't mean much, but the bass does sound blummin' great. I expect Aaron Armstrong would be able to custom wind a jazz lipstick for you with a higher output to match that of your existing pickup. I recall the Lakland Jerry Scheff used custom Armstrong lipsticks with the bridge one overwound to compensate for the wider spacing between the pickups.
21. Give Alex a ring and see if he'll do you a deal on the one at the Gallery. That one seems to have been there for ages.
22. 1. Behringer cheap-as-chips pedal limiter/enhancer. er... that's it. I never bother taking any of my other pedals to gigs. If I wanted to make funny noises instead of a solid groove I'd have been a geetarist or keybored player. ... ducks for cover
23. Excellent! Don't forget to post pics when it arrives.
