  1. My competition orange squier classic vibe mustang is a lovely bass. It had some non-original crappy tuners on it when I bought it so I put on a set of nickel wilkinson tuners from a vintage pro thunderbird (after fitting gotoh GB640 res-o-lites to the thunderbird) which are the same design & footprint as the original squier tuners would have been, but of slightly heavier construction. The previous owner had also put in a pickup from a vintera mustang and I made a new loom with cts pots, switchcraft socket etc, and fitted a thumbrest. The wilkinsons work really well but I really like the hipshot lollipops on my JMJs so I have been keeping an eye out for some, and managed to get my hands on a set today. I took off the wilkinsons and replaced the ferrules, but when I laid out the hipshots on the headstock, the plates overlap by about 1mm or so. I don't want to bodge it by filing the tuner plates, so I guess I'll have to learn to love the wilkinsons.
  2. If Fender issued the JMJ Mustang in another colour, such as shell pink, it is practically guaranteed that I won't be able to resist ordering one.
  3. I'm thinking of playing 'asteroid' as the call up music for sets 2 & 3. Its only 18 seconds long so the bu99ers had better not wander off too far.
  4. Part of the idea of trying this is it will send an easily recognisable signal to a few of the band members who tend to go missing once their gear is in place. It'll let them know the pair of us responsible for setting up the PA have everything ready and we're about to start so they are to extract themselves from wherever they are currently located — ie to save us having to go looking for them.
  5. Who uses pre-recorded walk-on music at gigs? What do you use? If you do more than one set do you play anything specific for the second/third set walk-ons? The band I'm in plays 60's & 70s covers, and we're thinking of coming on to the theme from 'The man from U.N.C.L.E.' or something similarly cheesy for our next pub gig in a few weeks.
  6. Is it this one? https://www.thomann.de/gb/km_17515_guardian_transluzent.htm If so, it says it is 'not suitable for Guitars With Pyroxylin Varnish'. Googling 'Pyroxylin Varnish' suggests that it is a poncy way of saying nitrocelluose lacquer, so I'm confused
  7. That's an idea, but if I try it I'd probably use brand new 100% cotton socks

  10. That sounds interesting. Are you able to post a link to the stuff you used?
  11. I think I'll just continue with the old t-shirt over the contact points. Might finesse this in the future by making something to fit better.
  12. I don't trust Hercules, in addition to the discolouration of the JMJ on one hercules stand, which I was able to nip in the bud, another hercules stand developed the sticky and disintegrating plastic issue and my email to the company about it went unanswered — so Hercules is currently on my sh!t list, along with tascam and native instruments (for entirely different reasons)
  13. When I left one of my JMJ mustangs on a hercules headstock dangler type of stand it developed black stains in the area in contact with the stand. I was able to clean it up so there is just a faint dark mark now, — not really a problem on a roadworn instrument, but to prevent this reoccurring I ensure there is at least one layer of t-shirt between the bass & stand at the point of contact. Not ideal but 'it is what it is' as some would say. Can anyone recommend a specific stand (masnufacturer & model) which is definitely safe out of the box for instruments with nitrocellulose lacquer?

  15. Crystal Blue Persuasion — Tommy James & The Shondells
  16. I'm struggling to work out a reason to wire the P bass pickup in parallel. My best guess is change for the sake of change.
