  1. When I had a jazz bass I changed the pickguard from white to tort to black, and for some time I played it without a pickguard. I would probably do the same again if I ever got another one as changing the pickguard is so easy on a jazz. If I buy a secondhand one and a previous owner had hacked up the pickup cavity, it would pee me off a lot, and if this was disclosed before the sale (as it should be) I wouldn't buy it.

  3. Trans-Europe Express — Kraftwerk

  5. I only have a top one, My Ashdown ABM600 Evo-IV. Other amps I've owned were okay but they don't come close. I was fortunate enough to buy it as 'ex-display B-Stock' for £300 from PMT a couple of years ago which was a pretty good deal.
  6. I use mine nearly every day. I've had a other similarly sized practice amps which had rather an uninspiring tone, but the bass cube RX actually sounds like a proper amp. The fliptop emulation is my favourite.

  9. Why would someone do that? Also that headstock looks like it will be as sticky as a wetherspoons table. The body is essentially worthless. Any value would be in parting the rest of it out, but I don't understand why someone would list something so filthy without any attempt to make it look presentable.
  10. You can now do this with the stem splitter tool inside Logic Pro 11. If you go to file -> Project Settings -> Smart Tempo & set [Project tempo mode] to [Adapt project tempo] when pulling in a recording, then set it to [Keep Project Tempo] any regions subsequently added can be in sync with the imported track. Now it's possible to split the track into stems, you can mute the drums and add drummer regions, and the new drums will automagically be in time. I did this yesterday with a track I originally recorded in the late 80s using my trusty fostex x-15 portastudio. The drums were from a Yamaha RX11 drum machine and I always thought they could be improved upon. Using the technique I outlined above, I muted the drums stem, and set up some drummer regions with Logic's simmons kit with a bit of gated reverb. After some more remixing (Logic's octaver pedal on the bass etc) and mastering I think the track now sounds very much improved, but still of the period. 14. I love mine as well. Easily the best amp I've played through.
  15. Smash It Up — The Damned

  18. Unlike my vintera mustang, the JMJs make it easy to adjust the truss rod as there is a perfectly sized cutout in both the body and the pickguard. The stewmac tele trussrod tool is perfect for this, no need to take the pickguard or neck off.
  19. In a previous band we played O.V. Wright's 'Eight Men and Four Women.' During the break between sets, one punter felt the need to come up to the singer and tell him it made him want to slash his wrists. We dropped it from the setlist for the next gig.
  20. Before shielding there was noise that came & went as I moved the bass about pointing the headstock in different directions, not much, but it was there. After shielding, the noise was no longer present.
  21. You didn't have to take the neck off the original 50s/60s ones either — they didn't have a truss rod so you had to make do with it how it was.
