  1. They look a bit cheap & nasty in my humble opinion with the tacky graphics and the corny bite taken out of the headstock. Ugh!
  2. The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes — The Very Things
  3. I've never grasped the point of using these kind of shims over a piece of card, which I've always used with no issues. I also have four fender guitars with microtilt adjustment. This system works well with no loss of sustain or other issues despite its seemingly bad reputation which might have more to sloppy 70s era manufacturing.

  7. No, a special teeny-tiny pickguard needs to be ordered. Brian aka earlpilanz on ebay has the template and the one he cut for me is a perfect fit.
  8. I picked up one of these. I really wanted a black one so I could put on a mirror pickguard, but I saw a secondhand red one hanging up in QatarCatarrh at a price I couldn’t resist. I didn’t like the single ply pickguard so I ordered a red pearl one which looks classy. I put on a fender high mass bridge I had in my bits box and fitted a set of GHS short scale stainless steel flats which have held up well despite a little the E string being a little long. The materials, fit & finish are very good for such an inexpensive bass. The pickup doesn’t need to be upgraded, although its corners are a little sharp if you rest your hand there.

  12. The square truss rod hole & hex nut indicates that this is not the neck from a JV. It should be a cross-shaped slot in a snug round hole. I have a non-fender japanese-made neck from brandoni music with a truss rod that looks like this.

  20. What bass is it? Does the truss rod adjust at the headstock end or the body end of the neck? Assuming its an allen key at the headstock end, I'll repeat what itu said above, ie it is of the utmost importance is to ensure you're using the correct tool. A metric allen key that *seems* to fit nicely in an imperial nut (or vice-versa) can damage the nut, rounding the hole making it near-impossible to get it loose without specialist remedial tools. The short allen keys you get with most instruments that look like the ones in poundland aren't up to much and don't give much leverage, so I tend to use long handled versions such as a bondhus t-handle hex drivers (which I believe Fender rebadge and include with some of their instruments). This gives more leverage and makes adjustments much easier. I also label each one with the spec if it isn't stamped into the handle and which instruments I can use it on.
