  1. Blabber 'n Smoke — Captain Beefheart
  2. That reminds me, I bought a TE Elf head a while ago to take to gigs as a backup to my Ashdown ABM, but I haven’t seen it for some time. I must try to remember where I put it. Younger me would never have believed that it would be possible to lose a gigable bass head.
  3. Ain't Got Nobody To Grind My Coffee — Clara Smith
  4. Three Of A Perfect Pear — King Crimson
  5. The Lemon Song — Led Zeppelin
  6. Mister Bang Bang Man — Little Hank
  7. Playing my new(ish) Vintera bass VI, I've notived that I get a load of 'static' noise when my hand brushes against the pickguard when plugged into an amp. I don't recall ever noticing this phenomenon before on other guitars/basses. I'm planning to do a copper tape shielding job on this bass soon, like I do with most of my instruments. As part of the shielding I'll apply the tape to the back of the pickguard and ensure it is continuous with ground. Should this cure the static?
  8. Canoe Dig It — King Floyd
  9. Here's my cover of Sonny & Cher's "The Beat Goes On" written by Sonny Bono before he formed U2. B3 Organ, drums, amp modelling & FX are all native to Logic Pro. Bass is my Rickenbacker 4003 recorded using ric-o-sound to make the treble pickup a bit hairy. Clean guitar is my CIJ Fender '72 Tele thinline, and fuzz guitar is my Fender Ben Gibbard Mustang.
  10. Sleeping On The Job — Gillan
  11. This thread has reminded me that I have a toltec four pole musicmaster bass pickup sitting in a box that I need to get around to fitting in one of my '72 musicmasters.
  12. I think I'll probably go with a rockboard strip - about a tenner from thomann and much more exciting with the colour features
  13. I want to keep it as tidy as possible so I don't want to plug the LEDs into the USB — Just to make things a little harder for myself.
  14. I always use one of these when fitting solid shaft knobs (snick!) as tightening the grub screw with the knob fully down causes friction as it rubs against the body, but eyeballing a gap then tightening the grub screw can result in the knob ending up slightly lopsided causing friction for part of its travel. Using a card spacer makes it always come out perfect.
  15. We have a winner! Well done!
  16. A spanner made of card? — I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid.
  17. Bach Is Dead — The Residents
  18. I fixed the tip issue by putting a little masking tape on the threaded end and screwing on the plastic tip. It is now firmly seated and isn't going anywhere. I have now shimmed and set up the bass using my experience of setting up my classic vibe to guide me. Like the classic vibe it now has a set of La Bella flats on. The Vintera exudes quality. As much as I like the Classic Vibe, the vintera just seems a lot more classy.
  19. If I bought another identical LED strip and wired them in series — i.e. 2 × 4.5v strips connected in series powered by a 9v power supply, that should work shouldn't it?
  20. The PSU (built into a harley benton spaceship power board) has outputs for 9v, 12v, and 18v.
  21. I bought a battery powered strip of LEDs from Primark this afternoon. This was only two quid so it's not the end of the world if I destroy it during my tinkering, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any experience in tinkering with similar strips. Basically what I want to do is fix them to the bottom of a pedalboard, ideally powering them from the pedalboard power supply. The lights work with 3 × AA batteries, so nominally 4.5V. Two questions I'd like answered if anyone has experience are: 1. Is a 9v PSU likely to work, or kill the unit? 2. If I can't work out the polarity of the two wires and identify this using a trial & error methodology would getting it wrong first time be likely to kill the unit?
  22. The truss rod is at the neck heel, however unlike the JMJ mustang there is no cutout in the body & pickguard to facilitate an easy adjustment using the StewMac truss rod tool (pic below) so you have to practically take the neck off to adjust it — a bit of a hassle if you don't get it right first time, and probably the reason why the bass has sat in its case for a few weeks before I got around to setting it up. The improvised card tool in question was not used in this process though.
  23. Indeed, but I don't think we've had 'The Sinks'
