I'm guessing that the thumpinator will still have some work to do as the hpf on the cali only acts on the sidechain, not the signal

You'd probably need to be Freddie Krueger to make scratches like that on the pickguard. I suspect it still has the peel-off protective film in place and the actual pickguard underneath is okay.

As it no longer works as a pedal I think he means the value of the paperweight—which is probably about a tenner on a good day.
In recent JHS video, there was a blind shootout between Josh Scott's original Klon and a £23 mini Mosky clone. in the admitedly unscientific test, the cheapy was deemed the better sounding pedal. I have the mosky on my guitar board and it certainly sounds good enough to me.
The bass balls has a couple of trimpots inside to adjust the range and resonance of the effect, but the mooer bass sweeper is the same thing, but has a couple of extra knobs for these parameters, so that might be an option.
