3. I`ll volunteer if you like, i can bring a selection of basses over as well if you like mind you, im not very good haha
4. Howard routed this one for me and made the plate, its seen quite a bit action last year and is quite a monster itself!
5. The guitarist in the band im in had 2 Bugera valve amps, lovely sounding amps that lasted 1 1/2 gigs each, i dont think ill be bothering with these.
6. I did this to my jazz and added a concentric pot so i have control over each coil, got loads of tonal variation and plenty of bite, this is my go to gig bass. 7. I use 3mm Gravity Picks Razer Big Minis, love em!
8. If they did a five string version of the black one id be be very tempted.
9. I bought a mm loaded body off here and was impressed with the pup, it was quite a meaty beast, cant comment on the neck though as it didnt have one.
10. Ive met the `doc` several times and also `Ghost Rider` both top gents! also forgot to mention alyctes (Mike) also a top bloke!
11. that has given me gas for a white jazz now! thanks a lot!
12. Youve probably seen this before but i thought I`d do a sort of resto build thread on it as i finally added the last piece to the jigsaw today and it is now a very very nicely sounding and playing instrument. ok here goes, when i bought it it looked like this, just a smidgen better than firewood but only just (i was under the influence when i bought it but thats not making excuses) it was missing quite important bits like, frets, all the electrics but most importantly the string retainer which goes behind the nut. oh yeah and the bridge! what kind of idiot would buy something missing so many important parts without any product knowledge of how readily spares would be? you guessed it................moi! Anyway how hard could it be, its a bass right . First part sourced was the bridge, its a generic affair readily available on fleabay but it looks kinda like the real thing if you squint. next up string retainer, cant be too hard to find one of these they made millions of these basses right...............wrong! best get the hacksaw out then Mk1 it worked but double ball end strings didnt fit.........soooooo Mk2 It worked so onto the pups, if only I had known that a month after having the doc route out my pup cavities id find the almost genuine part, as it was i fitted the Artec Mudbucker things and well to say it was a wholely underwhelming experience would be telling the truth very low output and to this day im baffled as to why when they come with such promising number but hey ho! Anyway it then looked like this. it played very nicely and had a lovely low action but the output was ooooh sooo weak, i was gutted Anyway a surprise find on ebay again sourced me some EMG selects off a Steinberger what could possibly go wrong, well erm my pick up cavities were now too big even for the surrounds, oh no I hear you cry! Never fear I got the filler out and honey i shrunk the cavities. you may have noticed the grey bits, bit of a problem on a black bass i admit, so lets just paint the bloody thing! 16 coats in Finally screwed together with new pups, and a KiOgon wiring harness, its a joy to play, lovely action, flats, no neckdive and a bloody nice output from the EMG`s im in headless heaven!
13. the more i play my Westone the more i want a Steinberger
14.
+1 save yourself a load of bother and buy a decent secondhand instrument
but theres no fun in that measure the neck pocket im sure a decent bass can be made from that and you`ll also learn a few things along the way. Take the bridge for instance, ive got a generic bbot you can have.
15. Well what more can you say, ive got another quality harness from John with super quick delivery. Cant fault his service. Jeff
16. Well mine arrived today and despite looking like it had been assembled by a blind man on a flying horse (action i can drive a bus under, ive shimmed the neck already and thats sorted, the bridge alignment is poor) the sound it makes does actually make up for its poor qc, i dont know what pups they are but theyre impressively loud and well balanced across the 4 strings, the neck is a chunky old thing but as its unfinished i cant see why it couldnt be sanded a bit thinner, is it worth £100 erm im sure there are better 2nd hand basses out there for the same money, does it sound good and look cool HELL YES!
17. despite the erm serious review ive just gone and bought one for myself whats the worst that can happen for £100
18. Steinberger, my (westone) steinbergeresque quantum sits very nicely, takes up no room and is light
19. my re-finished Quantum now with added emg goodness
20. my question is, is it worth getting one and upgrading pups, bridge, electrics to have a decent playable vee?
21. I`d have a white one with either a black or tort guard, not so sure about the cream finish, look nice though, i do like a pair of buckers
