I've now shielded the cavities with copper tape, installed the wiring harness including earthing wire for the bridge. Attached the bridge and Fender 62 Pickups Although the bridge is from a Japanese 62 RI, I'm going to replace the bridge barrels with some vintage ones from All parts. This works out quite good as my MIM Fender Jazz has a duff barrel so I'll replace it with one from this bridge. Tomorrow if I get time I'll drill and add the strap retainers and make a start on attaching the neck.

leave it for the daytime at the weekend as it may get warm enough to do it? Good job so far, looking forward to seeing the finishing article.

Fist of all congratulations. Not knowing how big you amp/cab is, why not knock up or convert a cupboard to pit it in? if it's not too tall you could put ornaments /picture etc on top so it doesn't look out of place? a bit more wife friendly.

Just bought a Precision body from Howard, well chuffed with it, great communication and a pleasure to deal with. Buy/deal with absolute confidence, I know I will again. Thanks Howard

Well the new Sunburst Alder body arrived from Howard (BassDoc) well chuffed, don't think the picture does is justice enough. The neck fits snugly in so at some point in the week I'll drill the neck holes. Machine heads now attached, sorry about the crap quality photos will try an update some taken during the day. If I have time tonight I will pilot hole the strap holders and shield the cavity with copper tape.

Congratulations!! In regards to set list, I believe you start with a song that says "WE ARE HERE" and then end with a bang (hopefully not the PA ). My Current band had the dreaded guitarists who at the last minute was bottling it saying we are not ready blah, blah, blah so I said if you don't do it now, you never will but if you do it, you will then be a member of an exclusive club of people that have performed in a band in front of a live audience. He did the gig and now he's completely addicted to it Good luck
Took the plunge and ordered the Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass from Dawsons together with a Rumble 30 amp. Can't wait to get hold of it and annoy...er...entertain my neighbours. It's ok I've got headphones too. Neighbour wars is the last thing I want in my mellowing years. Decided not to wait unt I sell the boat and got it on finance.
You know it made sense it's like waiting for Santa to arrive

Maybe worth consulting a Physio or Chiropractor for advice?

Sorry to hear this not good for you I assume you've tried small scale necked basses? Also have you tried different straphights? What's it like sitting down and playing with one leg slightly raised?

I'd love to be back in an originals band but the odds at my age are slim. So I enjoy playing in a covers band to keep my bass skills up to date and keep the old hands and fingers flexible. it's all about playing and having fun regardless of what you are doing. I must admit I find it harder to learn other bands bass lines than those that I have created bass lines for in the past..

Very funny

I'd have to re-mortgage the house to buy my birth year bass - damn it
I have a real problem in playing in that I can close my eyes now and name every note on the fretboard and yet put me in a band situation and I struggle to name the open strings ( honestly ) .Its not about nerves its more that once I get ino playing that part of my brain slows down and I rely upon shapes and what sounds good
+1 to Shapes and especially "Sounds Good". In a relaxed situation at home you could point to and fret position and I can almost instantly name the note. I a practice/Jam session apart from the root note my mind just goes blank and that's when playing what sounds good kicks in. This is part of the reason i'm trying to learn a bit of theory to help me.

Now that most of the bits have arrived thought I'd start on the neck. Thinking this would take an hour tops to add the machines Heads and Bushes I was in for a not unexpected shock!! The tuner holes on the neck were about half to a millimetre too small for the bushes, so for a couple of hours watching TV with some sandpaper wrapped around my finger I managed to get them to fit. The next shock which I wasn't aware of. is that you have to chisel/drill out 2 resesses for each tuner in order to make them fit flush against the neck. So far I have done 2 and will leave the others until tomorrow.

My now 10 year old son took up the guitar 2 years ago at school, he has 1 x 30 minute lesson at school a week and I know I'm his dad but he really does posses the raw talent to be very good and his teacher agrees. Such a thrill watching him last year perform at school in front of all year 6 pupils and parents (he was year 4 then), while all the others were concentrating on their fingering while my lad was stood looking at the audience boogieing away and really getting into what he was playing. I just hope he realises the talent he has and the hard work he needs to put in to be good. Have fun watching her play and learn and record every moment!!!! My 6 year old daughter wants to play keyboards!! Now if i can get Mrs yepmop to play the drums........
