1. Definitely most of it from the fingers and in particular where you place your plucking hand i.e.. next to the bridge over the pickup....... Jaco use to play between the bridge and the bridge pick up with only that pickup on with full treble (not sure of the bass pickup volume he used but think it was 0). James Jamerson played just past the pickup. Liked the ZVG video
2.
haha very clever word play there
It wasn't until I posted it that realised what I'd written, but well spotted
3. I was thinking of getting one from here, from the USA but about £14.60 incl post seems quite reasonable? (it's a brown one). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jazz-J-Bass-Pickguard-3-ply-Vintage-Tortoise-Fits-Fender-/140889557170?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D5244831372055126207%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D140889557170%26
4. Massive loss - he made compex bass lines sound so simple, just love listening to that old Motown stuff, must get me some LaBella's
5. As a few have said before, you only live once - go get it NOW before it's too late and someone else gets it.
6. Welcome from another old fart from the deep south.
7. Compromise maybe a solution, you do some of his and he does like wise? Was the material not discussed at the audition? Good luck with what ever you decide.
8. Been there and didn't get paid either.
9. Bought a Tascam bass trainer from Will, received as described and all working very smooth transaction.
10. I'm in a similar situation to the OP, I'm almost 55 and the rest of the band are in their late 20's early 30's There are differences musical taste wise but nothing ageist. I'm old, fat and have no hair and I take the piss out of myself on the those 3 things because there are people in this world who are dying from something horrible, starving....... so (for me), being worried how I look etc is not an issue as I've put it prospective. In this age there is more emphasis and what you look like and your age rather than who you are and what you can do, it sucks big time but that's the world we now all live in. There is lots of good advice in this thread but as a few have stated before, BE YOURSELF
11. Taste were a great blues rock band (early Rory Gallagher), another name I don't think has been mentioned here is Johhny Winter (especially his early stuff). I'm going to make a list of all the suggestions for my education as well
12. I'll try anything but the rest want to just play stuff from the 90s and are frightened to tread outside the Oasis type material. I try to explain you should play the stuff audiences generally want which is 60s,70s and 80s and yes some 90s and various genres within those eras, but generally get out voted :-( But hey it's music and fun
13.
Have you tried amplifying the headphone output of the vox?
I have thought of that, might give it a try later, will be interesting.
14. I've been frustrated at trying to find my sound for a while, oddly enough I can achieve it when using my Vox headphone amplifier!!! but my Ashdown combo does't come anywhere near. I really love that Motown bass sound (and yes I know a percentage of it is from the player).
15. I've just started on the Bass guitar theory course http://www.institute...heory_for_bass/ 12 week course for £16. I have been doing it for 2 weeks, a lot of work but interesting a chunk has gone over my head a bit but I think/hope I get it in the end. The guy running it says give it 30 mins to 1 hour a day if you want to succeed at it and stick at it, like everything else it's practice, practice.... I'm the worlds worse learner but I WILL do it!
16.
First shot: 3.65 seconds for Bass Clef Intermediate. Right off the cuff, as a non-reader in any normal sense, I'm pleased with that!
Same for me as well, quite chuffed, a good bench mark. Being the saddo I am, I've downloaded the Android app for my phone.
17. Tony Howe-Haysom - Portsmouth - Hants
18. If photos (at hand over or being played) are taken, are we going to pin them to a separate area on this site? also, if we do it for charity, which one? my choice would be cancer research. This idea seems to really gained momentum
19.
Just so I know, yepmop, where are you based in Pompey?
Copnor
20. Count me in, My band don't currently gig a lot but do have one on the 24th Jan if it's ready by then?
21.
Is that why Rimmer is you're profile pic!
Oh Smeg
22. Hi All Not sure if this has been covered before but..... When you go to a music shop to test out a bass/amp etc what do you play? For me I find the music shop experience a complete and utter nightmare, I'm not sure what to play, what I do play, sounds really crap (well to me at least). Anyone else suffer from this or similar. Cheers Tony
23. Definitely has affected my playing (in a good way) since joining BC almost a year ago. I'm now even studying Music theory and loving it. Also I find it really great to communicate with other like minded people and have a laugh and a bit of banter whilst learning something from someone.
24. Hi and welcome from a fellow Southerner - have fun.
