1. Welcome to BC from another old git.
2. Hello and welcome from another old fart - have fun. Top tip - be nice to your kids as they decide what home to put you in Cheers Tony
3. Welcome Bass Lady hope you have fun. Is it music in general you teach and I assume to school kids? Do you have any up and coming stars in your class? Cheers Tony
4. You could turn this the other way, you may have excellent at musical theory but if you do not have the imagination/creativity to use it are you a musician? To me if you can play an instrument to a good standard, you're a musician. If my memory serves me right did not Jaco learn musical theory later in his life?
5.
MIM Fenders - that and the awful electrics
I Got John (Kiogon) to replace the MIM pots and at it made a huge difference to the sound. At some point in the near future I'll re-drill the neck pup location.
6. No springs used (or were there originally) I think the Mexican who did the drilling for the neck pickup had too much tequila the night before.
7. Thanks guys adding some mouse mat to the sponge has worked a treat. The angle has partially corrected itself but I think I've sussed out why the neck pup is doing it, the pup is not dead centre in the cavity and is at a slight angle and I think it is sticking against the scratch plate as it's very tight, so at some point in the future (when OCD kicks in ) I'll reseat it correctly. Thanks again Tony
8. Hi all Hoping someone can help with a problem I have with the seating and adjustment of some new Jazz Pups. I recently got some Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups to replace the standard ones in my MIM Jazz, I've installed them and all works great apart from the seating of the actual pickups. I followed the Dimarzio instructions and cut the packing foam to the size required to fit under the Pups. No problem and I also replaced the original screws with the ones provided with the Pups. There seems to be no upper pressure to make the pup move upwards to the screw endings and even if I unscrew the pups do not move (even pushing down on them)? also, as you can see in the picture the pup is also at an angle which I can't seem to rectify. It makes adjusting them impossible as they don't move. I probably doing a real school boy error somewhere but can't quite seem to figure it out. I've attached a photo to see if it makes sense. Any help advice much appreciated. Cheers Tony http://i303.photobuc...zps784e1f99.jpg
9. Parcel hero have been really good http://www.parcelhero.com/?gclid=CITjrs37y7QCFWbKtAodsGQAbA
10. With so many of you wearing them, sounds like a good idea to produce some wrist bands with the BC logo and flog em on here?
11. Thanks Tim - A New Year's present from me to me
12.
Then, at home in front of the PC. I plug in my bass and play along. Any bits that I really struggle with I'll use Goldwave to select and auto repeat passages until they're right.
Cheers for that TimR , are you able to loop passages in mp3s with Goldwave? If I play along I use VLC slowed down but being able to loop certain passages would be a huge bonus :-)
13. Hi All Just thought i'd share the process I go through when learning cover songs as I'm bored at work. Once I've decided to learn a new song, I go to this site http://www.karaoke-version.com/ and select the custom tracks option and search for the song i want to do. This is a really good site for songs to play along to, generally the quality is quite good, you can download as many times as you want and can cahnge keys/beat and even remove individual instruments. Obviously you remove the bass and you have the song to play along to, but on occassion i just download the drums track to play along to. I also download just the bass part to help get the right notes etc but on some rare occassions they use a keyboard for the bass line. the tracks are quite cheap to buy at £1.99 each and downloaded as MP3 and remanin in your account to customise for years to come. After I have learnt the line, I then add the mp3 (without the bass line) from the above site to Pro Tools on a laptop then record myself playing the bass line to it (via M-Audio Fast Track). This gives me a really good indication to how I sound playing the song (or how bad). Also, If (like I do a lot) you change the line to one of your own, you can here how it sounds and if it really does go with the song. All in all it's really good fun and I quite often load them up on my home audio system crank the the bass combo up and have my own gig, i even sometimes record myself singing on the songs but that tends to scare the kids. If the song is not available I revert to playing along to the original and download a tab if I get stuck on a part but is not as much fun. What are your practicing regimes? Cheers Tony
14.
I get a pretty similar experience in there which is why I try to avoid them. They were always rude in the old north end shop years ago too. If I really must use them, I'll buy on their webpage and then go and collect it as they're next to my house. Jamesbass - you're better off going and speaking to george at PJ's guitar on Highland road in Southsea. They've looked after me for years and he had a Ricky quite recently too.
Totally agree, PJ's although smaller wipes the floor customer service wise. I remember buying my son's first guitar there, they were very helpful and chatty. Nevada are so far up their own arses I don't go there any more either, sooner buy my strings etc off Amazon, cheaper and no salesman to deal with plus Nevada never stock flats!!!!!!.
15. Perry Como - Magic Moments was no 1 when I was born
16. I've always used these guys http://shop.rothkoandfrost.co.uk/guitar-headstock-waterslide-decals-s/204.htm excellent quality. I have used ebay ones but they are nowhere near as good a quality as these.
17. Welcome and have fun playing and joining in on the site. I'm also in the one finger a fret camp
18. Well done Lozz!!! I haven't Sky either but sure some nice person will record it
19. Dimarzio Ultra Jazz Pups, Bass culture T-Shirt and a Haynes Fender Bass manual - well happy Now lounging on the sofa completely bloated after stuffing my face with Xmas dinner washed down with some wine.
20. Merry Christmas to all and hope Santa brought you what you wanted. Now where has he hidden that Alembic I put on my list?
21. Same to you and everyone else.
22. Much appreciated Scott - thanks
23. This has probably been done loads of times but hey. what are you currently learning to play? For no reason but for my own enjoyment i'm learning the lines to; SRV - Pride & Joy (boy does that line move around) Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares (quite complex (for me) but probably one of my fave bass lines) Roger Miller - King of the Road (fantastic line) All hardish to do, but all for my own enjoyment :-) has anyone completed these? (might ask for some help :-) ) cheers Tony
24. The beauty of playing air bass is that you never play and bum notes and those difficult lines/solos are always perfect. I look at Air Bass as an extension of Jaco's visualising play the bass.
