1. First time here after all the nagging from Dad3353. Impressed by the quality of all the tracks, shame I could only vote for one.
2. I haven't been to the George II for years, used to be a regular place for me to play in and watch other bands. Glad to hear it's still going strong. Close enough to the train station so you didn't have to lug your gear too far.
3. I had a secondhand Columbus jazz as my first bass back in 1981. It wasn't a very good instrument and the action was really high. Today's budget basses are much, much better. Still feel nostalgic about it though.
4. Finally did my first new years eve gig last night after gigging for over 20 years! Great fun, packed venue in Berkhamsted, everyone dancing and having a good time. We did two sets from 11.00-1150 and then 12.30-1.30 with a DJ in between. Got home at 3AM and I'm to tired to do anything today.
5.
Band round our way used to do "Wipe out " by the Surfaris? used to go down a storm.
Used to do this in a band I was in, great fun to play but it could get a bit frantic if we weren't careful. Also did an instrumental version of Little Wing by Hendrix which went down well enough.
6. Saw them in London on Wednesday and was impressed too. Good funky bass playing which fitted nicely with the drums and percussion. Thought the singer was great.
7. Broke my D string once at a gig about 25 years ago. Since then I've always carried a spare set with me and It's never happened again.
8. We do between 30 and 35, that's a 45 minute first set, a 1 hour second set and a couple encores.
9. Still available, I'm GASing for a fretless if anyone has one to trade
10.
Whilst I agree, not a track Id listen to at home, but last time I gigged this, the reaction of the partygoers made it so much fun, it was worth it. I guess if your the kind who wants to only play music that you consider cool, then a functions band of this type is not for you, personally I like playing to party atmospheres though.
Actually I'm not, my general rule of thumb is that as long as I enjoy playing roughly 70% of the songs in the set list I don't mind playing songs I dislike, but that particular song I've hated ever since it first came out, I hate listening to it, I would absolutely never want to play it and I'd leave a band rather than play it, I think it's that awful
11.
Another one which has become a must, not only at weddings but also New Year's Eve gigs, birthday parties, god knows what else: The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 s**tting Miles) Maybe it's just me, but that song just makes me want to plug my ears with deep-fried Mars bars...
Me too, can't stand it.
12. Bump and a price drop to £250
13. Reduced to £250 For sale, My Overwater by Tanglewood Classic J bass in almost new condition. Candy Apple Red with black scratchplate and P/J pickup combination. I bought this new 2 years ago as a backup for my MIA Fender Jazz, it's a lovely bass and plays well but I just prefer my Fender so it's hardly been used. No blemishes or signs of wear that I can see. I'm looking for £250 or will consider trading for a fretless of similar value. I don't really like sending basses by courier so it's either collection from me or I can deliver personally within about thirty miles of Luton, or we can meet half way. Cheers Spike
14. Markbass LM3 because it had the warmest sound of the lightweight amps I tried, and 2 Aguilar GS112 cabs because they had a good reputation and there were a couple second hand ones for sale on here. Very happy with my sound and not going to change anything anytime soon.
15. Outdoor music festival at a local pub, good weather and a good crowd too. First opportunity I've had to turn up my Little Mark III and 2x Aguilar 1x12 speakers really LOUD and was totally impressed by the monster sound I was producing. Band was on form and we had people dancing on the tables by the end of the set. One of those gigs that makes it all worthwhile.
16. My plucking hand generally takes care of itself but if I decide to look at it to analyse what it's doing it starts messing up.
17. I'll probably be coming depending on what time I finish work.
18.
Spike, don't be like some Dutch friends of mine who, whilst staying with us in the extreme South, opened the map one morning, and proclaimed they'd have a day trip to Narvik by car that day.
I might be nearly as bad as your Dutch friends, I'm spending three days above the arctic circle and I wish it was more but I can't afford the time ( or money ).
19. I'm travelling by train from Oslo to Bodo and then by plane to Narvik. I'm only staying there for one day before I go on to Abisko in Sweden and then Stockholm and back to England. I want to go up the Fagernesfjellet mountain at midnight so I'm hoping the weather will be good for that.
20. Hi Magne, welcome to basschat, I'm visiting Narvik in two weeks time, not too far from where you are. Nothing wrong with drinking IPA, it's my favourite beer.
21. That looks lovely, I bet you are a very happy man.
