1. I played in High Wycombe last night with my general purpose pub covers band. We were adequate rather than good but the landlady liked us so we got two bookings for next year out of it.
2. Normally not more than 2 hours but in December we are playing at a big party in Leeds which is about 3 hours away. We are getting well paid for this gig, but whatever the distance the money I get has at least got to cover my travel costs. It might be different if I was in an originals band and playing for the exposure.
3. You Can't Hurry Love - The Supremes Higher And Higher - Jackie Wilson Do You Love Me - The Contours Always work for my band
4. Whenever I try out a bass in a shop I instantly forget every bassline I have ever learned
5. Always a hard case for me, I just don't think gig bags offer enough protection.
6. Another recommendation for wizard pickups here. I got a P/J set for my Aerodyne a few weeks ago and I'm well pleased. Andy suggested the standard 'Thumper' for the P pickup and an overwound pickup for the J. To quote ShergoldSnickers, my bass now only uses woody words. And the Thumper does exactly what it says.
7. Sorry Homer, it's you. I don't forget what I've learned until the next day
8. I've found that the lamp on a classic 60s miners helmet has a warmer, mellower beam, causing less problems for the audience when you look up from your fretboard.

Don't raid the buffet until the guests have had a chance
10. I don't know who the bassist is but I love the bassline to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-opY4qcidFk I love the orange suits too
11. I'd rather be playing than not. I've just started gigging in a pub covers band as a side project and we have decided to do the 1st gig for 1/2 price offer. It's working so far, we've played 2 gigs at 1/2 price and got 3 full price bookings from them.
so how did u get this over from Japan, did you get in touch with a shop over there, or get in touch with Fender over there, or is there a shop over here that deals with importing from over there??? would be interested to know as some Jap basses look the bees n ees!! Ad
I actually bought it on Ebay. Theres an American seller on there called thomasldh who seems to specialise in Aerodynes. The bass came direct from Ishibashi in Japan, for more details about them see the sticky about importing guitars in the bass guitars section of this site. Another place worth looking at is www.guitaremporium.co.uk
Outliney. How are you liking the p/j arrangement Spike?
Still experimenting but so far I'm liking it. I was looking for a precision sound but I don't get on with the necks on P basses so I went for this, having the neck pickup almost full on on its own gives me the thump I'm after and then gradually rolling on the bridge pickup gets it back to sounding like a Jazz but with a fuller bottom end.
15. I put a Tort scratchplate on mine as well, makes it look a bit 'vintage'

I was going to get the gunmetal blue one, so glad now I was patient enough to wait for the white
17. Nice bass, Tinman. I bought the exact same model 2 years ago, now I'm a total Jazz bass convert.

Aerodyne

Just got this on Friday, had to wait 6 weeks for it to arrive from Japan...... ....and it was well worth the wait. i gigged with it last night and it plays pretty much like my MIA Jazz but with alot more thump, which is what I was looking for. Here she is with her American cousin
19. 100% fingerstyle but only because I kept on losing my picks!
20. I'll Take You There - The Staples Singers Instant Groove - King Curtis (Jerry Jemmott) Roadrunner - Junior Walker (bass intro by J Jamerson)
21. Ain't Too Proud To Beg - The Temptations/James Jamerson deceptively easy but grooves like a groovy thing on groove pills
22. My practice desk. PC, Tascam bass trainer and stereo all connected through the Behringer mixer.
23.
I buy my strings and change them every year, whether they need it or not.
+1 to that. Takes about a month for new strings to feel properly broken in to me
24. Me and my drummer are both big Soul fans so we started a Soul band together to play the music we like to listen to. In the past I've played music that I wouldn't normally listen to and still thoroughly enjoyed it, the fact that I'm playing is the important thing for me, playing music I really like is a bonus. I choose cake over death
