Also looks refinished IMHO - they were well built basses but with poor hardware. The pickups are a little thin (but if you find EB humbuckers too fat, you might prefer these) and the original bridge was pretty poor too. The SB30 is the shortscale (30") version of the SB400. An yes optimistically priced in that condition.

I don't know the serial number of your bass - but if it is an 800000 it will most likely be a '73. The slotted headstock models changed to the solid headstocks around serial number 728xxx, and they were getting '73 dated pots by 778xxx. I know there is supposedly a lot of randomness in Gibson serial numbers, but there is actually quite a lot of order amongst the randomness too. I don't slap, but if I were to, I'd try one of the long scale, bolt-on neck, maple bodied Gibsons... probably a G3 or Victory - they are NOTHING like the EB/tbird/LP basses that most people associate with Gibson... ie no mahogany, no short scale, no overwound humbuckers - the Victory Artist is active too (with a passive mode) and I suspect would give you exactly what you want. But to be fair these are the least Gibsony Gibsons....

The EB2 doesn't feedback that easily - you have top stand right near your amp, and often fret a certain position to get it going. A couple other (non-centre-block) basses I have feedback much more readily - i'm thinking my Hagstrom Concord, Fender Coronado, and Hofner President - again fretting certain positions help. As well as the obvious centre block issue, perhaps the slightly noisier single coils just help get it started?

Yeah, Hofners vibrate beautifully and are pretty loud. I play an old Hofner President unplugged at home, and still get he occasional complaint late at night Everyone should own one!
