1.
Spurred on by all these "basses in the garden" shots, I did a quick photo shoot with my basses at the weekend at my folks' house. I'll upload the lot in the right place when I pull the finger out, but here's a sneak preview... Man oh man I'm so freakin' happy with this bass Eude
Not surprised you're so pleased I don't say this often, but I'd have that bass!!!

Very cool pair a'P's
3. Now up for straight sale at £500 as well as trades.
4. Bump Trade for 5 or 6 string fretted/fretless.
5.
Hi there, I got a jap trb5 with nordstrands and audere preamp if your interested, a little scared but sounds alsome
Thanks, but I'll have to pass. I have the opposite problems with Yamahas as the spacing's too wide. Had to sell my TRB6 II because of that.
6. For sale or trade, here's my Carvin LB75 w/Kahler trem. The Carvin has a narrow string spacing which I don’t mind in isolation, but I’m finding it tricky to switch between basses. It’s not getting played as much as my others, so that’s the only reason why I’m getting itchy feet and considering trades for it. I’ve written a whole review on the Carvin here on Basschat, so there’s a whole bundle of info in there. Here’s some pics: ...and with the trem arm in place!
7. I'd keep the bass out of a case for a few days and see if it clears up or changes in anyway. Might be able to wipe it off with a bit of luck.
8.
This one? A bit better but it still looks like a 3rd year woodwork project. J.
I've had a look at the website and it reads like a 3rd year English project. One of the animations has a blue background which looks like a sheet that's just come out of its packet. The icing on the proverbial cake is the Contact Us page. It shows Mr Rees himself in front of a pair of curtains in (presumably) his front room. No doubt the BGM piece will make more people go to the website, but it's all poor to say the least.....
9. I'm in a minority here, but although I like the look of headless bass it's the string thing that puts me off. I had a Hohner back in the day which needed double-ball end strings. Great idea and string changes were really fast! Without that though, I really don't like the idea of string clamps to enable you to use 'normal' strings. I'd just be waiting for a clamp to fail and a string to come flying out. Probably paranoia, but a point nevertheless
10. Go fretless. OK, it'll be a bit of a pain to play at first but the sound is worth the effort.
11. I take no responsibility for dropped cups of tea and/or pleading to wife and/or bank manager. Looks like Kala are going to make a solid body version of the U-Bass bass ukulele. 4,5 and 6 string versions are in the pipeline. Release expected September-October.
12. Looking good.
13. That's a great result. Many congrats on a job well done
14. Found the weight listed online as 85lbs. That's just over 6 stone or the best part of our Rottweiler.
15. Very cool You are the new MacGyver of bass.
16. Great catch Does it come with a free protein shake? I take it you'll be hitting the gym to carry it around.
17. I was introduced to the UOOGB by a neighbour who showed me the "Anarchy in the Ukulele" DVD. Brilliant stuff! Has anyone noticed that neither of the bassists in the bands on this page were playing bass ukes?? I'd still buy a fretless one though
18. Shames they only do the '51-alike in blue.... I miss my '51 RI. Probably the only bass I shouldn't have sold
19. Oh no. Another bass that I want......
20. Great website The NS-2 is a timeless classic.
21. Bump for a great bass I own one of these and it's really comfortable to play and it sounds great. What more could a bassist ask for??!
22. Cheers Chris. I'll have a look on eBay and keep my eyes peeled in the ads. I've never had to replace a neck before and this is the place to ask.
got any pics of the crack ? I haven't seen an unfixable one yet (though I'm sure they're out there)
I can try to get some posted. The whole area has a real fragile, flaky splintery feel. Really nasty. Not the kind of straight break which'll clamp right back where it once was. When I heard about it, I was hoping I could inject some superglue in there to hold it, but any movement results in more crackly noise. I don't have any carpentry tools here at all, so clamping something with some shape is a tricky operation for me.
23. I've been asked to sort a bass which has a big problem. It needs a replacement neck. I saw the bass advertised locally as a Squire P Bass with a slight neck break. Even though it was £20(!) I just went to the next ad. A couple of days later, I got a call from a guy who's guitar I'd setup in the past asking me if I could look at this bass which he'd just bought for £20. He's a guitarist and wants a decent sounding bass to record song ideas with. He brought it over this afternoon and the neck is absolute toast. The crack is big and it's far deeper than it looks, so time for a replacement. This is where I need some help. Can anyone give any suggestions of any where to get a cheap (but good!) replacement neck for this Squier P bass. I have to admit that I don't have I don't have any experience with sourcing replacement necks at all. I've come across Mighty Mite necks as I set up [b]Metalmoore[b]'s project and the neck was fine even if it did a little persuasion to go straight. Any help greatly appreciated. Also been asked to find a tortie plate as well. By the way, I set up guitars and basses in the Glasgow area as a hobby really. There's more info if you click on the link in my sig. Any parts I source are charged at cost anyway, so please don't think I'm trying to find a cheap replacement neck and then I'll go and charge the poor guy a mint! Again, any help much appreciated
24. The fitting is the tricky bit The nut should snap in and be such a tight fit that you can lift the whole bass by the nut (don't try this though). I cut new nuts from blanks, just small blocks of bone, and then shape each one to fit. [b]Matski[/b[ has the right technique of knocking the nut out. Scribe around the old nut first with a sharp blade, then knock the nut from the fretboard side, then the nut side and keep switching from side to side. Don't knock it out sideways.... There will be all kinds of dirt and glue in the slot which will need to be removed. This stuff stops the new nut from seating properly. Getting a pre-slotted nut does save time, but cutting your own slots allows you to play with the string spacing a bit. You can gain some playing area by moving closer to the edge and maybe even line the strings over the pickups a bit more. Fitting a nut just needs patience as you end up sanding thousandths of an inch off to get the right fit. IMHO, I'd have a bone nut fitted and if this is your first go, I'd leave the Geddy to the local experience tech.
25. I don't know the tech jargon, but there is a kind of pot which works likes that. For the few quid it costs, I'd just get a replacement pot.
