Cetera's COMPLETE p*rn collection - update on Page 5!
7string replied to cetera's topic in Gear Gallery
WOW. Just WOW Have to say that I love NS2's. One of the first 'proper' basses I played but couldn't afford!! The Kip Winger basses are great as well. I've had mine (lacewood w/Reflex pickups) since the early 90's and I wouldn't swap it for anything. Thoroughly recommended to anyone if you're looking for something a little different to the norm. By the way, I think Kip's "Ghost" chamber piece is now on iTunes. He's a guy whose musical talents are way underestimated. -
Because of that Joe Satriani used to have 2 chrome guitars. 1 for playing and 1 for photo shoots.

I read about that Guitarist magazine (aka the Fender catalogue), looks like a great idea. I'm definitely going to have a look at it. I found the Guitarist piece and it says that E-Jamming's subscription based with a 30 day trial. After the trial it's $9.95 a month, $24.95 quarterly or $89.50 a year. Plays great. The string spacing is tight at 15mm, but I have tight spacing on the 9, so it isn't too bad for me. There are suggestions from Carvin owners that the Kahler bridge can be adjusted to make the spacing a bit wider. The neck's quite chunky, has square-ish shoulders and is comfortable to play. The weight's fine and there's no neck dive. It sounds huge as well! I've found some more details though! The bass is a LB75 from 1990 and is a maple thru-neck with either koa or (more probably) poplar sides. The pickups are Carvin's own H50B stacked humbuckers with bright/deep and phase switches.

Here’s a few photos of the Carvin. It needs some work, mainly cleaning, but an evening’s work should do it. I also have to investigate the controls more fully, but it’s a 2 volume/2 tone arrrangement which I’m not used to. The switches look like coil-taps, but need more info. The bass also has 2 outputs. One of them is bridge pickup only and the other sends signals from both pickups. Pretty weird, but I’ll try and find out from Carvin owners and Carvin themselves. Here’s the tale of the tape: Total length: 117cm 46” Total width: 33cm 13” Scale length: 864mm (34”) Nut width 46mm (1.8”) String spacing at nut 8mm (0.3”) Bridge width 71mm (2.8”) String spacing at bridge 15mm (0.6”) Weight: 4.7kg (10.3lbs)

I got a call that the bass was ready for collection so I went over there this morning. Not much time at the moment, but it looks in pretty good nick. Couple of dings but nothing serious. It needs the usual clean-up and setup but it's all positive. Here's the 1st pic The whammy has quote a bit of travel and I've found two 1/4" outs....
That made me look twice! Its a mixture of bad image compression and the bass is in the shade.
Yup whatever he said Status of the parcel has now changed to "sorted in hub".

Parcelforce are officially a pain in the rear. After an e-mail conversation which never answered my question and 3 phone calls (using SAYNOTO0870.com to get the landline number) Parcelforce have just deigned to call me back. They're not saying it's lost, but they've started a search and hopefully it'll be trunkered to Glasgow tonight. It's not the fact that there's a problem, it's the appalling customer service. The most irritating thing is the blame culture "well I've passed it to someone else and they were supposed to call you back". Fingers crossed.

VERY ANNOYED today I got my expected letter from Parcelforce today and drove all the way across town to pay the bill and get the bass. When I got there Parcelforce said that not only was my bass not there (it's in transit from Coventry) but I couldn't pay the bill before it arrives either. The letter was signed from the Glasgow Depot manager as well. Humph. I've written a complaint to Parcelforce which will probably be ignored but it made me feel a little better about it. Hopefully, it'll be there tomorrow.

Man you gotta love Bootsy I went to a TM Stevens clinic years ago and he was emphasizing the importance of the ONE. As TM's a shy and retiring type, it was both fun and educational. All this Bootsy stuff makes you wonder why some slap bassists go and ruin it all......

Proves that you can't judge a bass by its headstock.

Little bit of progress to report: At the weekend, I made some sanding blocks and got some sealer. The body still needs some sanding in all the bits that the electric sander couldn't get to, but the headstock now has it's first 2 coats of sealer. Tomorrow it needs sanding to 320 and then a couple more coats. Sand that back and it's ready for primer.

Looking good I admire your courage in tackling such a job.

Just for another idea (and I only seen it done and haven't actually done it myself) you can use stick shellac to repair that. Looks like wax. Heat it, apply it, let it harden, sand to shape and polish.

Having a St George flag is fine. Having a Union Flag in Glasgow could get me in all kinds of trouble....
-
When I shared a flat in Glasgow one of my flatmates had a 6ft Scots flag in her room. Not to be outdone, I bought a St George Cross the same size. I still have it as well

It's a personal taste thing. It's a different sound and you can play anything on a fretless that you can on a fretted. It takes a while to get used to playing one though, but this is time well spent.

I'm on the "it's a great song" side. The Glee version is pretty good and I thought their duet version of Heart's Alone was great. If the Glee version gets people listening to the originals then that must be a good thing. By the way, if this was a guitarist forum they'd be pages and pages of "how can Neal Schon put a trem on a Les Paul" conversation.

The only time I've bought a new pickup is when i wanted a bigger rock sound for my Sei 7. In the end I went for a custom-wound Kent Armstrong pickup by Aaron Armstrong. The service was quick, the pickup's fantastic and it was a fraction of the price of a Nordstrand. Pre-amp wise, I'd go for the ACG pre.

What a fret job. The repair to the back of the neck looked particularly difficult. There's a chasm between people who can set up guitars and someone who can execute high-quality major repairs. It's hard to find people like that so no wonder you're a regular customer.
