1. Jon Shuker de-fretted and ramped my GT7. Damn fine job as well.
2. Wizards with an ACG pre. I've heard that the guy at Wizard will listen to what you want and wind accordingly. Played a Wizard-equipped bass at the Moffat Bassbash and was pleasantly surprised.
3. Worth squirting some contact cleaner into the gap at the bottom of the pot to see if it's just dirt. Squirt the cleaner in and then turn quickly turn the pot back and forth. I've used WD40 in the past, but apparently this is the wrong thing to use as it creates a "gummy mess".
4. Info about capacitors here. The site has lots of wiring diagrams and useful stuff.
5. THG come to mind but they're in the States. They are really good though!
6.
Boring but true, microfibre cloth and fresh (or not) breath. Seriously, unless the guitar is caked, it brings it up a treat.
You can use saliva on really bad areas. Saliva tends to cut through any dirt. If you really don't want to do that try de-ionised water. Garages used to sell it for topping up car batteries and it's the stuff you can put in irons.
7.
Back to Level 42- no slap but this has to be one of the most haunting tunes for anyone who had their heart broken in the late 80s- sorry to open those old wounds again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU_xVtM-wsY
My favourite Level 42 song. Hue and Cry can take a run and jump. They charged £500 to appear for a charity gig.
8. As long as the polish doesn't contains silicones then you're fine. Remember to give the bass a good clean first so you don't polish the dirt in (seen this happen before!).
9. Very flattered by the recommendations guys. Many thanks I started to get into doing my own setups as the prices across Glasgow were very high. If you have more than 1 bass then it's even worse. As you can guess from my username I play a 7 string bass and who has experience of setting one of those up!! There is one particular website of a Glasgow repairer which warns players not to trust their instruments to anyone else (I'm not kidding!). So I've been learning for the last 6 years or so from books and hours and hours of DVD instruction. When I was happy with the standard of work on my own instruments, I offered to help other players with theirs. For the last few Christmases and birthdays my family have been buying me the specialist tools that I wanted to carry out different jobs. When I gave bass lessons, I'd offer to set up a pupil's bass for free (they'd supply the strings) to stop the bass itself getting in the way of their progress. Playing bass is physical enough as it is without battling against against the darn thing. I'm in the midst of a course for guitar repair at the local college and have now got to the stage of re-fretting one of my guitars and leveling and dressing frets on another. Great fun and I'm getting good results so far. Since then I've set up all kinds of electric instruments from Strats and Les Pauls to modern rock machines with Floyds. Bass-wise I set up my own 4, 7 and 9 string basses as well as 4, 5 & 6 string basses from fellow players. I take a lot of care to get the right result that the player wants and treat the instruments as if they were my own. I even sand and clean out control cavities to make shielding them in future a bit easier. Shielding's a job any player can do and that every bass would benefit from. Feel free to get in touch if you need some help with an electric bass or guitar. please bear in mind that I don't handle acoustic guitars/basses or EDB/double basses as I don't have the experience.
10. Very cool
11. I played a bass with Wizards at the Moffat bassbash and it was amazing. The owner just told the guy at Wizard what he wanted and the pickup was wound to suit. Could be worth a phone call.
12. Try using this link with the diagram you have.
13. You could always put that passive pickup with an active eq.
14. 7string

Tasty case

Couldn't see any prices. Could be a case of if you need to ask the price you can't afford it.
15. Nice to hear from another player in Glasgow
16. It just gets better from hereon in
17. I was going to saY $100-$150. Remember to factor in Duty and VAT (about 22% on the £ value of the item). If it comes by FedEx or DHL, they tend to deliver first and bill later. USPS seems to come via Royal Mail who want Duty + VAT + handling charge (£13) before letting you have your goodies.
18. Girls ???? Surely a Senorita (or Geisha) and 2 Fraulines.
19. Blimey, a revolving bass collection. Brilliant story though.
20. I had my Conklin GT7 de-fretted when I got a new fretted bass. I did look into getting a new fingerboard, but couldn't afford it! I have lines and Jon Shuker did a great job of making them as faint as possible.
21. Wapping: aahhh the good old days I used to work in an office in Katharine's Dock and would go to The Bass Centre during my lunchbreak to have chat, drink coffee and play basses. Bought everything there for years.
22. Do you know what type of pot it is as there's linear and audio taper. An Audio works gradually as you turn the knob, a linear pot has all the action happening nearer to full. Have a look at your receipt or have a look for an 'A' or a 'B' on the pot itself.
23. I would love to have just a volume control nothing else on the bass. However, I usually find a great sound and leave the controls there. My Tyler has a Demeter 3 band eq with switchable centres. Do I know what the frequencies are or the boost/cut?? Haven't got a darn clue. It has an overall gain control as well but I have no idea what it's supposed to do. I just find a setting and leave it. My Jackson has active pickups and a passive tone control. Very strange, sounds great. The tone goes up blend sticks in the middle and that's it. I have a Charvel electric geetar with active electronics but I don't tend to move the knobs much. I would love to have simplicity, but I don't want to spoil a great sounding bass for the sake of it.
24. No doubt an incredibly talented guy. Just a shame about the music really (just my opinion and taste is subjective).
25. My mates and I renamed Nathan East to Nathan Teeth as he's always smiling. Great player and pilot (I think).
